That Napoli team is amazing to watch. Didn't give us any room (should have started Auba maybe), everybody seems to have an amazing eye for throughs and crosses, that left side with zuniga and insigne played world class. And I liked that they rarely tried standard corners, ours have been shit for years and these seemed to work wonders. Meh, I agree with Klopp. Napoli looked beatable but Dortmund had a bad game.
Klopp wasn't impressed with himself or his team tonight, and rightly so.

I'm surprised Klopp went ape shit over that first goal. Seemed like generally chilled out character.
If there was anything to rage about, it was Dortmund's defense. They failed to play traditional pressing game on Napoli's half and lacked agression on the flanks too. But I'm not sure if there's anyone who could stop Callejon and Insigne tonight.

Klopp is absolutely chilled until the tiniest thing happens he disagrees with ; ) Apart from Reus free-kicks our biggest problem in my opinion was that Mkhitaryan disappeared after 10 minutes.

They looked beatable I agree but alot of that came from the last 15 minutes where they stopped pressuring that far into Dortmunds half. Before that we got nothing out of the game apart from 2 or 3 runs by Aubameyang. If they keep that pressure up for a full 90 minutes every team, no matter how much better they are, will have problems playing that team at home.

First the 4th official delays Subotic' return from the side of the field, when Klopp wanted him back as fast as possible, then Napoli plays a fast corner to take advantage of the fact that Subotic is still out of position.

Dortmund played with 10 men for like 60 minutes (including Subotic's injury time) and Napoli still looked more tired in the end. And Dortmund misplaced a lot of passes even when the pressure wasn't that high.

its very easy to pressure a team of only 10 players...

Yes I know that but even in the first half we couldn't find too much space. I totally agree that 11vs11 the game might have ended ugly for Napoli when they got tired but you can't take everything away from them. Their tactical approach was superior if you ask me. Nothing more nothing less. The game was decided by emotions, maybe even by that single decision to keep Subotic out longer than necessary (in that split second when the tv showed him I couldn't see blood anymore) with everything on Dortmunds side just going the worst way possible.

Valencia - Swansea 0 - 3 Go EPL! XD

Slapstick in Freiburg. Unbelieveable.

I am very sure Klopp didnt make this angry face (to the 4th referee) if subotic came earlier into the field. After treatment Subotic had waited around ~60sec until the referee allowed him to play.

Sometimes I have the horror vision of the EPL turning the other European leagues into Eredivisies, bereft of all top players, thanks to insane advantages in global marketing

Eredivisies, lol
Anyway lets not forget that until recently the sub-top/mid table teams in Spain were outperforming their English counter-parts in Europe. It's only because the top two teams suck all the money out of the league that we can see results like these today. The German league is fine (which is also sucking talent out of the Netherlands btw ) and Italy have that co-ownership stuff which seems to help the smaller teams get good players.
|
Well, you should consider that Valencia is in a hard crisis right now, they are sucking in La liga too with 3 looses of 4 matches, in 16th position. Last year they were starting to go down with Athletico and Real Sociedad surpassing them in La Liga and Malaga in champions.
The position as third strong team of Spain was stolen by Athletico de Madrid, that won this week his first Champion League match without problems. They have won Spanish Cup and SuperCup this year to Real Madrid, and two Europe League recently (and they were 2nd in La liga above Real Madrid last year until the week 27/38). Furthermore, Simeone is awesome xD
