Can't wait
im kinda interested in playing a football manager. does it have good game mechanics or is it more a feelgood game where decisions dont matter so much?
Tactics matter a lot, i personally don't think it's hard to make decent to good tactics but don't necessarily expect to destroy everything by picking Barca/Bayern/Man U or City etc.
Other people can tell you more if you're really interested but it's by no means a shallow game at all.
Vancouver vs Portland was the game of the year in MLS. What an incredible second half. Balls out for 45 minutes with the playoffs, Cascadia Cup on the line. Camillo was insane, Reo Coker was insane, Rickets was insane. Bonkers.

And if you preorder it, you get access to the beta, meaning that you can play the game two weeks early!
Don't know if I want to get FM14 yet though, because I'm still having fun with a long term save in FM13.

Nice! My mate from the office went to Canada on Wednesday and booked some tickets online to go to that MLS game! I told him the timbers have been a pretty good team this year and have alot of good fans. Im glad he has gone to watch a good game
Wonder how long it takes before certain people are gonna call it boring.
They just need to win one more CL and people are going to get mad because they win everything Imo Bayern players aren't as technically gifted as the Barça players, so this tiki-taka is a bit less fluid, but it's still very very impressive... And they also have qualities that Barça players don't have/don't have anymore (physical aspect, more impact with Ribery/Robben, size for headers, longshots...) , so it's very scary :D
It's interesting that Barcelona are playing "less" passes now though. If you read Guillem Ballague interviews or reports, he is suggesting that Barcelona are being told to play less passes under the new manager. Be interesting like Twisted says before it becomes a point where it could be deemed "pointless" passing. Of course everyone to their own, but when you start drawing games and not winning questions start to be asked, even if you dominate thus game and fail to win (ala vs Bayer Leverkusen i believe?)
Yes the Barça style is changing a bit, but it's by choice not because of bad results. Hell this is the best Liga start by Barça ever.
Passing the opponent to death must be a weapon of choice, not a forced strategy for every game. It's pretty good when ahead to force the turtling opponent to press further and open spaces behind them, to exploit it with a long pass + fast player. Just check some of the last goals to see it :D

Yea I think the bottom line is no matter how good you are being one dimensional has its limitations. And to be honest people can criticize and say stuff like "theyve been figured out now" and so on but lets be honest, There was never anything to figure out. Everyone knew what they needed to do to beat Barcelona they just couldnt execute effectively enough till they had some rungs at it. Additionally not every team has the ability to manage that period.
This Munich team hasnt lost anything with Guardiola, they still play with power and pace like they used to but now they have more weapons like that clip up there.
It's already boring to me now...passing it around midfield while there is no pressure from City isn't an impressive feat imo. City will immediately react whenever the ball goes forward, which you can see the 2 times they actually do that. Bayern doesn't have the tika-taka skill of Barça, so going through the center won't work, so they rely on (short) crosses. I think a lot of their depth and speed is lost when they play this way. You can see at 2:30 in that video that there's a lot more space when they attack from the back instead of pressing first. And I'm not surprised teams are countering this by putting a few strong/big CB's at the back who kick the ball up the field and hope for a counterattack.

That's some powerful stuff. God damn, Man City were raped. When they attack they look way better than Barca too, much more focused and incisive. The fact that Bayern take so many shots and threaten so often makes watching them play much more fun than watching Barcelona.

This. Bayern got to three consecutive Champions League finals playing different (better) football than this, why fix what isn't broken? The only thing they get by playing this way is pass statistic for bandwagoners to circle-jerk over, just hope it doesn't spread to other German clubs.
See the way Arsenal do it to me is the right way. They pass it so fast when they are on it and its impossible to play against, but they never have the 70+% possession. The way Barca used to do it (can't speak for this season as i have only watched about 20minutes of them) they just always played at the same pace, never speeding the ball up, just retaining possession and waiting for the opponent to make a gap for a through ball or a quick 1-2. All be it that is genius and hard work, watching Arsenal pass the ball 1 touch and very quick premier league pace is the best for it. I guess the closet i have seen to that is the way Dortmund play and i guess Bayern too. Get the ball, pass it around but then inject the pace and within 4-5 good 1 touch passes they are inside the box or on the edge of it having a shot. Much more flair about that for me.
