No team can stay dominant for more than a couple years (unless your league is as poorly structured as most soccer leagues). I think it makes it more fun to watch the Wings now. Makes for closer and more intense games when they're the underdogs. :D

If Dekeyser continues to play and improve like he has been I would say the Wings need 1 quality top 4 D man (best if a top 2 pairing guy). Their D wasn't terrible this year statistically but their scoring is down, they need help there the most. I think they really miss the way Lidstrom could help the offense with his smooth 1st passes to set up the offensive attack. And hey at least they aren't laying down and dying, series is tied 2-2 now vs the 2 seed Ducks.

JVR comments on tonight's game. "We made a few mistakes that are easily correctable." Yeah, they're easily correctable because they should never happen in the first place *gulp*. Ugh. The Leafs have got to stop making so many brain farts/cramps on the ice because the Bruins will keep making you pay the price. Ducks had the Wings on the ropes and they let em' loose. I don't see how this one doesn't go to game 7. On May 07 2013 08:10 xDaunt wrote: Hrm, watching CBC, it is apparent that Leafs fans are just a little bit blue-balled from their playoff drought. Just a little bit.... This city has always been pretty crazy when it comes to playoffs man. You should join in the festivities because Toronto is cra-cra when it comes to playoffs.

And hey at least they aren't laying down and dying, series is tied 2-2 now vs the 2 seed Ducks. Their D has been horrible this year, the reason why it looks ok statistically is because Howard is actually playing pretty clutch most of the time but he is repeatedly exposed. Quincy and Erickson have no business being on the ice at all and so its Kronwall and a bunch of kids. Yes, theoretically if Smith and Kundl and Dekeyser get better and turn into a bunch of solid 2nd pairing guys so they can all playing 20 minutes or so and then Kronwall can eat most of the itme they will be okay. But that is a big 'if.' And yes, offensively they suck too, but that is also because a lot of the guys who were playing above their skill level -- like Cleary -- have come down to where they belong (3rd line grinders) and there isnt a legitimate second line because Franzen is too slow, Filipula stopped developing and they dont have a 3rd winger for them... What they need is two more skill guys so Franzen can go down to the 3rd line and the top two lines play the old style, short passes, possesion hockey instead of what they do now, which is more of the standard West coast dump and chase and grind (which they do because they dont have enough skilled guys to do the old style of Red Wing hockey).

And I dont like it because Holland knew this was coming 3 years ago yet chose to re-sign a bunch of old guys like Samuelson and Bertuzi or unskilled guys like Erickson and Quincey. I wouldnt even mind the fact that Erickson doesnt use his huge size or isnt great offensively if he would stop coughing up the puck in his own zone but he does. And he has an NTC because...I guess Holland thought him being Swedish automatically elevates his game. The only thing that can be said about the Wings is, at least as they entered their twilight/rebuild period, which will last another 3-4 years, they look competitive. They could be doing the Canucks and have a total implosion.

Yeah, that's why I'm not really upset at it. Especially now with the salary cap. You can't just buy your team. I'm so glad they won today though. The Ducks are a bunch of cunts and need to lose as early as possible.

O right, since MLSE prepared him for the damage control interview on PTS he realizes the Maple Leafs are always his #1 priority ![]()

While there is some difference in playing style between conferences, every team uses dump-and-chase as one of it's primary strategies, even on the top lines. The conferences do have kind of a different feel, where Western Conference teams seem to make cross-rink passes to a guy with speed more often, and I say that with lots of trepidation and no statistics to back me up. Over the years my major takeaway between the two is that Eastern Conference teams clog the neutral zone where Western Conference teams make sure to always keep their legs moving. But who the hell knows.

Dude doesn't have to say what's on his plate in public bud. We know what he's up to and it's no secret when it comes to what MLSE wants out of him. Everyone working beneath him is going to look after the Leafs just fine.
