i am more interested in other goalies like miller or hiller and seeing where they go

this draft is so stacked, in the 2nd round alone theres at least 7-8 defensemen that have the potential to become sick players mccoshen/bowie/bigras/santini/dickinson/theodore/heatherington/vannelli

i really wanna see if seth jones is half as good as people think. unfortunately, we dont get juniors down here
supposedly cbj is shopping bobsv after he asked for $6m, and phoenix is going to blwo money it doesnt have on locking up Mike Fucking Smith for about $6m over 6 years
'That puts Smith among the top-10 highest-paid goalies as he’ll make slightly more than Detroit’s Jimmy Howard and the New York Rangers’ Henrik Lundqvist but less than Nashville’s Pekka Rinne and Los Angeles’ Jonathan Quick.'
Which is to say that this is an absolutely laughable contract. dude's got exactly one good year played behind a super defensive team.
Bobs is a little high too. He's a little green, but unlike smith, his body of work is muuuuch better. outside of last year, where any goalie would have trouble behind that awful flyers d, he has been very good for his age. his price is inflated because of the vezina and the fact the khl is all over him
|
yea smith's contract is ridiculously atrocious, both term and money-wise. especially for how old he is t_t wonder how long it'll take before they buy him out
|
i just still can't wrap my head around the fact that people think he is good. it's a guy who has been somewhere between awful and ok his whole career, all the sudden posting on outlier season under one of the best defensive coaches in the league. it's exactly how brian elliot looked decent last year
e: LOL think how much rask is getting if fucking mike smith gets just under 6 for 6 yrs.
|
yea hes a prototypical system goalie, he fits well with phoenix but only for a certain amount of $. i wouldn't give him a penny more than 4M
and the knock against jones right now is pretty much this: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=1450495 that being said when u look at his skillset and size i dont think we can categorize him amongst the majority of those d-men, kid oozes with talent. hes a multi-dimensional player unlike alot of those picks
edit: according to mckenzie rask should get around 7M http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=1456863&highlight=rask
Hart (forwards only): 1. Alex Ovechkin - 1st overall 2. Sidney Crosby - 1st overall 3. John Tavares - 1st overall 4. Jonathan Toews - 3rd overall 6. Patrick Kane - 1st overall
Norris: 1. P.K. Subban - 43rd overall 2. Ryan Suter - 7th overall 3. Kris Letang - 62nd overall 4. Francois Beauchemin - 75th overall 5. Zdeno Chara - 56th overall
|
btw if anyone missed it heres mckenzie's consensus draft rankings http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?id=9423
edit: Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 1m
Said one NHL team exec on the draft floor: "I bet you we see 10 trades today at least."
O_________O

yeah I would have to imagine he's getting 6-7, mike smith's shit deal not withstanding. rask has fantastic numbers, even if that defense rules. two of his full seasons rank up there in terms of all time highest sv%
as far as jones, yeah, history is nice on all that, but at a certain point you gotta look at the player. i dont know him well enough to really comment, but i do know that if col isnt taking jones at 1, they better be trading down and getting another defensemen or they're retarded
|
For those in Canada, do you know if they stream the draft online?
|
You guys already know my thoughts on those contracts so no need for me to say more. :V
|
what do you think about bobs?? smith's pretty clear cut. bobs is a different story. supposedly he was asking 6m or so, 2 or 4 years. I think that is very fair based on the term, esp the first. Gives him money for a stud season, but he must prove it for the long term
|
yea im fine with that, mostly because hes still really young.. if i was CLB i would give him a short-term deal at like 5.5M-6M for 2-3 years so he can prove his worth. giving someone a long term deal based off of 38 games isnt really smart
|
Damn lots of players getting over paid today. Smith, Letang and now Bob wants 6 million a year. Which I guess is fair if the KHL is offering him 10 but still, he realizes he needs players in front of him to win something right?
|
cbj has 15m in cap space atm. and he's asking for either 2 or 4 years at that price range. 2 is really fair bordering on theft considering what he could get from the K. 4 is much more in his favor but not really that outlandish.
letang, i think the price and term were a bit high. he is elite at his position, but i dont think he is top 5 elite. he just isnt good enough in his own end, period.
|
Columbus isnt Detroit, their internal cap is probably at 5-10 million above the league floor, so yes I think in the context of two bids where one pays him 10m and one 6m, the 6 m is fair but the question is why does he want to stay in the NHL for 2-4 years, just to get paid 6 million and get bounced pre-playoffs? 'Cuz if he isnt in it for the money he needs to think about what kind of team he plays for, a team without a number 1 center or defender. Just a hodgepodge of crap.
|
eh, tbh, i really like how cbj looked at the end of this year. theyve got some parts. supposedly their gm is pretty sharp. i think 2 years, while not the security of 4 years or a mega KHL deal, allows him to see if cbj is on the cusp of being competitive without hamstringing him there longterm
|
This guy is easily the most hated commissioner in sports.

this looks like a bunch of spare parts, and they are 11 million away from the cap without resigning Bob or a bunch of forwards.

Have to agree, top defenders are a lot harder to identify than top forwards. Look at Hedman, 2nd overall, and he is just a mediocre d man. Of course you could say that part of the problem is that crap teams get to draft first, which puts defenders on teams with crappy goaltending and a porous defense. Forwards can always score goals in this league, so even a god awful total piece of crap team like the Oilers will let their kids score 20-30 goals. Dguys though get ruined after years on a team like the Bolts, never capable of reaching their potential.

i think hedman still has alot of potential but then u have someone like eric johnson whos just a huge.. (facepalm) guess thats why jones fell to no4
