I know. I was horrified listening to the pundits talk about the possibility of Datsyuk going to the KHL after next season. He is one of the games most exciting players to watch.

The money is still better in the NHL, so I don't know why he wouldn't stay.

Easier schedule, plays in his homeland, closer to his kids, bigger ice surfaces that benefits players like him, lower taxes and he probably would get more money from some podonk oil city somewhere in siberia. the onlydown side is the quality of opposition and terrible travel. You think American teams have a lot of flights, imagine playing a team from Valdivostok, 12 time zones away.

I dont know about that, there are plenty of guys who either win the cup and stop caring (Cam Ward, Dustin Penner) or never cared at all (Heatley, Razor, Kovy, Yashin). The difference is, 10 years ago if you wanted to make millions while floating (Federov in Anaheim and Columbus) you had to stay in America. But for Russians you can still float, get the same money and live in an environment you find more pleasing

i respect your perspective,
until say .. 2000 i agree with you.

However, the NHL has figured out how to keep ice "solid" in a rain fall at 8C. See Pittsburgh v. Washington on Heinz Field.

The solution is simple, but the people inside the building won't like it, They'll all have to wear winter coats. You just turn the building into a giant ice box.

If the NHL can create solid ice in a southern california outdoor game then they need to address the bad ice late in the playoffs.

How's it not a sucker punch? The only reason Crosby was involved was because two players were jumping on Morrow, so Crosby tried to pull Chara away. That's just what you do in hockey. Then TWO more players grab onto Crosby and hold onto him while Chara decides to just punch him in the jaw.

Pot shots fired! Yeah, ok. Sure there are some players out there that never show up during the playoffs or don't like paying the price, but these guys are exceptions to the rule. Of course I was talking about the vast majority and I think we can say that Dats doesn't quite fit their category. As for the not caring category. I'm not completely sold on that because we've seen many players tail off after having good seasons. It's actually quite common and there could be a variety of reasons for this whether it be loss of confidence or injury struggles. I think Cam Ward fits that category and I'd also say he was playing beyond his means that season too. As for the Russian floaters. Eek, yeah I know quite a few of them.

you were shown a sucker punch.
if Chara had really hit him he would've been unconscious before his helmet hit the ice

sucker punches result in suspensions in today's NHL.

if Crosby can not withstand a jostle like that he needs to find the Eric Lindros retirement home and live there with a bicycle helmet on his head for the rest of this life.

Crosby should really avoid guys like Chara
maybe he can pick a fight with a few girls like Lindros used to do all the time at downtown TO clubs.

how many "floaters" were on the 2011 Bruins? 2012 Kings?
a Stanley Cup winning team can afford very few floaters.

as far as floating after you won the cup? who cares.
Ken Dryden stopped caring after he won the cup 6 times.
Do we stick Ken Dryden in your list as well?

The unfortunate thing is that it's hard to realize statistics for goaltenders that are independent of the skaters in front of them. You need a huge sample size to accurately say that one goalie is elite, mediocre, or below replacement level. Basically, it's impossible to say who can steal you games unless their name is Lundqvist, Rask, or Rinne. Everyone else in the league is a significant step behind them.

stats don't work as well for hockey in comparison to baseball.
the large sample size doesn't work very well because goalies run hot and cold.
some goalies are great one year and very bad the next.
WHIP says a lot more about a pitcher than any stat you can come up with for a goalie.
a lot of american fans don't understand that.

you have to watch the games.

baseball stats do a way better job of describing baseball players than hockey stats do of describing goaltenders.
making these relevant to the previous posts.

Mike Palmateer's stats can't be compared to Ken Dryden's stats in trying to figure out how much better one goalie was over the other in the 1970s
But, we can use pitching stats to figure out how good Jim Palmer was in comparison to Tom Underwood.

The solution is simple, but the people inside the building won't like it, They'll all have to wear winter coats. You just turn the building into a giant ice box.

If the NHL can create solid ice in a southern california outdoor game then they need to address the bad ice late in the playoffs.

To be fair, if Chara punched something and it was not broken afterwards, he probably didn't mean it.

true, Chara is a 1st class player.
He could've hit Crosby 100 times harder.

Claude Julien is a great coach.
Peter Chiarelli is a great GM.

Boston is a 1st class organization from top to bottom.

Go Bruins Go!

Sucker punches player in his recently broken jaw while teammate holds him from behind, causing both of them to move backwards; deemed ok because he could've punched him harder. Ok then.

that was hardly a sucker punch, and if you're still dinged from your jaw, don;t go into scrums.

How's it not a sucker punch? The only reason Crosby was involved was because two players were jumping on Morrow, so Crosby tried to pull Chara away. That's just what you do in hockey. Then TWO more players grab onto Crosby and hold onto him while Chara decides to just punch him in the jaw.

you were shown a sucker punch.
if Chara had really hit him he would've been unconscious before his helmet hit the ice

sucker punches result in suspensions in today's NHL.

if Crosby can not withstand a jostle like that he needs to find the Eric Lindros retirement home and live there with a bicycle helmet on his head for the rest of this life.

Crosby should really avoid guys like Chara
maybe he can pick a fight with a few girls like Lindros used to do all the time at downtown TO clubs.

But for Russians you can still float, get the same money and live in an environment you find more pleasing

how many "floaters" were on the 2011 Bruins? 2012 Kings?
a Stanley Cup winning team can afford very few floaters.

as far as floating after you won the cup? who cares.
Ken Dryden stopped caring after he won the cup 6 times.
Do we stick Ken Dryden in your list as well?

Classic Boston mentality: if we hurt players on the other team, we were just trying to defend ourselves and it was their fault.

is this Chara "sucker punch" thing still going?

Chara barely touched him.

I guess in this scrum here we have 2,000 sucker punches going on then.
