@decafchicken: Well, I guess I could have googled that myself lol. Was just kinda curious about your guys' experiences with it. I was already aware of how much weight you would use, the rep range is higher than I thought what it would be but I guess it makes sense. I also wasn't aware of the idea of increased blood flow behind it.
I guess I'll just be doing it for all the main lifts from now on.
Most of my back off sets are squat triples after maxes, which serves an entirely different purpose lol. It's for working the CNS some (though not to the same level as 1RM), improving general strength, and causing substantial fatigue to the body

I am just not cut out to be a strength athlete. a) I like running way too much and cannot limit myself to sprints b) I like to workout nearly everyday, and my recovery is just not good enough to lift weights 5 times a week. Plus, being in a gym everyday is not that much fun and c) I am way too afraid to get fat again, and since I feel I need to do a) and b) to prevent that (if only to keep my attitude positive to not give into those food cravings), plus now I have money and live in an awesome city where you can do nearly everything (hello Crossfit for only 99€ a month... fucking thieves), I'll have so many options. I am gonna try out climbing on wednesday and I really hope I'll like it. In the gym I will just go for massive Pull Up- and Dip strength and do Squats, Deadlifts and Presses more bodybuilding style: more reps, lighter weights and most importantly, less ambition. I'm just gonna try to look fucking awesome lol. I am at around 108kg now and I'm gonna try to go down to 95kg within half a year, then get my loose skin fixed and then I'll go from there. Wish me luck I really wanted to Deadlift 250kg this year, but I guess it is not meant to be. Hopefully climbing is as fun as I imagine it to be, after all it is a monstrous whole body workout, especially if you have to support 100kg. I'll let you guys know
Welcome curlbro. Yeah a less CNS intensive bodybuilding style routine would allow you to lift 5/6 times a week easy.
I thought my uni gym was already pretty good, this is... just jawdropping
Do you go to uni in Japan Cambium? I'm studying abroad in Japan and the uni gym here is pitiful to say the least...
And ya Alabama's gym is insane.
no, Canada and U.S.
Japan is... different. I've seen some Japanese uni gyms, some are better than others obviously, but overall not very useful. For weightlifting, you really need to use weightlifting clubs' facilities, and they are quite fantastic.
I've seen the Michigan state football weight room. It's pretty insane. Couple million dollars worth of racks, machines, bars, platforms, cardio, etc. The locker room is more like an executive lounge and has gatorade water fountains. And of course the indoor turf football field. Only the football team gets to use it, all the rest of variety athletes go to a separate building that's not nearly as nice.

That's an "S&C facility" not a gym. My university has three of them that are very similar, but each slightly smaller in size - and everything is blue & orange. Ours are each reserved for football, basketball and lacrosse teams - since that's alabama, I would guess that it's for varsity football players only, and the majority of students use a much more "normal" gym.
For "normal" students, there are actually only two squat racks on my entire campus (as of this year, 15,000 undergrads and 5.5k grads)
Nice steel, Just need to work on some mobility in the front squat position!

decaf are you just cutting out most of the lifts in the programming?
Some of the shit. definitely not the full volume on presses/pulls. i dont see the point of doing 90-150reps in various presses and 60-90 deadlifts/pulls in a day rofl.
So today for the first time I did back off sets. Fuck me silly that's exhausting as shit! Especially for the deadlift, muh CNS. Did my working set of 125kg, then I did 5 more reps with 100kg and then 12 reps with 60kg, couldn't do more, my form would have gone to shit otherwise.
But to look at the bright side, I got all of my press sets again right after increasing the weight - simply because I changed the way I breathe lol. Moved up 5kg in a week on the press now, quite happy with that, it's at 45kg now. I hope I can get it up to 50kg in the next two weeks.
Today I only did 100kg for the squats, I simply didn't feel like attacking the 112.5kg again.. I know, I'm a bitch. Besides, I'm not sure if I shouldn't change the rep range for the day I deadlift anyway. I mean I'm still a beginner, but maybe the 3x5 squats are getting my deadlifts in the way. Maybe I should do 3x8? I'm not sure tho..
Should I even still train like a beginner? I'd like to to get my squat to 130kg-140kg before switching to a more advanced, weekly progression based program. The thing is I only weigh 71kg so maybe those numbers are too high for me in comparison and I should switch earlier.. Then again I'll never know if I'm messing up other factors, I simply lack the experience..

After reading your post I went and did some research on Smolov Jr and am very interested. If you don't mind me asking, how'd your first Smolov Jr go?

I did Smolov Jr for 3 weeks, deloaded for a week, and then I did a 1RM. My press 1RM had increased by 7.5kg, from 60 to 67.5kg. I'm not sure if some of this was partly just learning to press properly or something else. I'll do it another few times though before I say anything more definitive.
