Can hit some good areas in the upper back that you wouldn't be able to with a foam roller though.

Definitely reaches deeper than foam roller ![]()

I'm still going to deadlift barefoot, but it seems like the shoes would actually be helpful. They can't be cover-ups for my lack of mobility, but they would definitely help. @phyre, I'd spend the money on the shoes if I really had to. If it's a huge upgrade to go from $120 to $150 on a pair of shoes, I'd probably spend the money. I just don't know if it's really worth it for me to spend $200 on a pair of weightlifting shoes at this point. Having nice shoes will make you more consistent and enjoy lifting more. Of all the things you can blow money on, I'd say it's a fantastic choice.

And I can't stand baseball, so that case doesn't matter lol.

But honestly, I'm not a big fan of having specific numbers like weight as a goal as promoted in the op. In my opinion, if you start a diet, then keeping that diet up is already a success. Who cares if your weight does not drop as fast as you planned. It's like people doing cardio and counting the miles they run instead of the time they are running.

It's like people doing cardio and counting the miles they run instead of the time they are running. If your goal in the first place was realistic, you should be able to have both. If your goal was realistic and the pounds aren't dropping fast enough to get you to that goal, then you're not holding up your diet. Now you have another way to measure your progress. I'll agree though, people who havent tried weightloss before and just go ahead and pick an arbitrary number would be better of just saying "I'm going to eat (enter number here) calories per day, and I'm not going to eat (such and such junk food) for (such and such length of time), seeing how they stick to it and what the results look like, and then further adjusting.

It's like people doing cardio and counting the miles they run instead of the time they are running. Having specific numbers helps define your goal instead of just arbitrarily deciding that you want to 'lose weight'. Most people decide the weight first and decide a diet that fits it, but if doing it the other way works for you then that's just as well. As long as you have a specific goal you are maintaining whether it's lose x pounds by y date or eat z calories per day for n period.

This caused me to go on a "dirty bulk" when I reached my goal. Basically a fancy word for "fuck everything, McDonalds arghlebarglealrlrlrr". I gained back all the weight I lost and I got myself injured as well, which cost me whatever strength that bulk gave me. Right now I'm essentially in the exact same place I was 15 months ago. (which is still the best shape of my life, so its not all bad) Live and learn. And I did, so these past 8 months I slowed the pace, my goal shifted to mobility and not injuring myself, and being able to have a beer whenever I felt like it. Sure enough, for every two weeks I progressed I lost one to shitty food and drink, but since it wasn't a race it didn't matter. Slow progress is better than no progress, and it greatly lowers the risk of a "relapse". Still sucks getting on the scale after two weeks and seeing no change of course, even if you know who's fault it is ![]()
