I'm more or less in the same boat with my EMT classes. I'm studying ~30 hours/week, in class another 12, riding on an ambulance for 24-40, and then looking for a part time job on top of all of that. I missed the gym this morning because I overslept, but instead of getting my head out of it, it's got me doubly excited to go PR my Deadlift on monday (gym isn't open tomorrow). I'm finally making bodyweight progress (more carbs + stopped giving a fuck about abs, I know I can get them later with minimal effort), and it's really helping. My grandma also was recently diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, so I figure if an 85 year old woman can handle 6 months chemotherapy and not complain, I can handle missing a few hours sleep at night. Find your motivation somewhere - it's usually internal, but when things really get rough it's OK to look elsewhere. Seriously, to quote this fitness article I read about two years ago, my stomach is fucking little-girl-weak. Rippetoe and berkhan lied to me! Squats and deadlifts weren't enough to prepare me for this shit!

Pros of computer dying: really easy to make time to go to the gym. Also my girlfriend still kicks my ass athletically but she also kicks the ass of most guys so lol.

I started with just the bar for both Press and Bench and have been increasing for 5 lbs a week ever since. Now, I'm still pumping along with my bench press; this week was my first week breaking 100 and I still feel like I can keep it up for awhile. The overhead press, however, is going horribly. I'm only at 95 lbs and I am not longer really making gains. I can barely go up at all every other workout (2.5 plates are the smallest, I go up one every 2 weeks for last 5 pounds. I can't imagine this is normal; 95 pounds seems rather light to be hitting a plateau like this. What are some common problems I could be doing that would make me plateau like this? Also, I have been thinking of joining a crossfit gym. Can anyone who is a member break down why you like it and if you feel it is worth the membership fees? I only pay 25 bucks for my gym membership and it's 24 hours, the crossfit gyms seem pricey, but it looks like it's a good program.

getting from 40kg to 50-55kg is a great long-term beginners target, and most people you see in the gym wont be able to lift 60kg. increasing your protein intake has a solid impact on ohp and bench

Shooting for 1,2,3,4 plates on the big 4 (so, 135 OHP, 225 bench, 315 squat, 405 DL) is a common goal in the gym. Usually one or two lifts go up way before the others of course, but you can see that people don't really expect to OHP near as much as thy bench after a few months of solid lifting. Arisen, are you doing starting strength? You could take 10% off the bar and rep out your last set, a la GSLP. So instead of 95 3x5, you go 85 2x5, 85 1xmax reps, and only move up in weight when you are really crushing it on the max reps set (like 8-10 or more). Also, I've linked this before, but this video helped me. + Show Spoiler +

squat 4x5 170lb ohp 4x5 65 dips 4x5 bw+5 decline situps 10,10,8 bw+10 i also tried foam rolling for the first time after finding out that there's a foam roller at my gym. didn't know what i was doing but did some slow rolling on my quads, hams, and calves for about 5 minutes each. i know everyone says that it hurts, but i was surprised when i did it and it actually hurt lol. i wanna increase my flexibility in my ankles and knees; hope this will help. gonna foam roll again after my next workout and see how it feels. and speaking of ohp, any good stretches or mobility work i should do for my shoulders? right now, i can't even have my arms straight up over my shoulders. they're angled forward a little bit because they're just not flexible enough. i also tried doing those shoulder dislocations with a broomstick, but i cant get it behind my head, even with a super wide grip. edit - meant to post in the progress thread lol

Check out the video I posted in the progress thread a few days ago: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=391848¤tpage=97#1935 Shoulders, eh... I don't know as much about that. I'm sure someone will post a kstarr vid soon to help out with that though. ![]()
