Did my thing today because I had to work overtime yesterday. There was an epic curlbro in there today trying to teach what I assume was his gf how to squat. He could not have made it plainer that he didn't know wtf he was doing, but then I doubt the gf gave a whole lot of fucks, seems to me she just wanted in on his me-time.

Poor bro.
Excuse me hun, but what is your name? Vivian? I woke up next to you naked and, uh, did we, um?

Just a form check for deadlift.

dude, your lower back looks very rounded.. that looks pretty dangerous to me. Don't jerk the weight up because that will compromise your form. And extend your hips all the way at the top. It looks like you're not standing completely straight.

I don't think there is a correct deadlift style, but definetately keep pushing with ur hips all the way to lockout. Your sticking point is clearly when u stop pushing the floor with ur legs and ur glutes relax.

Me DLing after having done 5 reps at that weight already. Apart from my butt going up a bit before pulling, I think it looks ok-ish.

1 thing I notice when you are deadlifting, is that you have the bar too far away from your body when you start pulling. The barbell should actually drag up your legs and always be in contact with your body. Having the bar away from your body can lead to injury when you start lifting really heavy.

IMO your back is too rounded when you come up, especially with that last pull to lockout. Almost looked like an injury waiting to happen. I'd personally suggest dropping your weight a bit until your form is right. You may be able to technically pull a heavier weight, but part of it is being able to lift that really heavy weight with good form. If your form is not good, then you are not ready for a weight that heavy.

I definitely think there is a correct deadlift style. When dealing with lighter weight, one may not assume absolutely perfect form is necessary, however once the weight starts getting really heavy it is super important to do it properly. Not only will it prevent injury, but it will also help you pull the weight easier when everything is being done right. Mark Rippetoe has alot of videos on youtube showcasing how to have perfect deadlift form.

Heres a few videos of mark talking about how to perform a really good deadlift.

Good catch. I think that will be fixed if my hip is at the correct height before I start pulling & consciously try to keep the bar close while lifting.

A good way to setup is having the bar in the middle of your foot before pulling. Now, that wouldnt be the middle of your visible foot when looking down, as you cant see the back of your foot. The bar should be in the middle of your whole foot when looking from the side. Basically that equates the bar to being very close to your shins. After you set the bar back down, reset and place it in the middle again before pulling. Your back alignment looks really good, and overall nice lift!

just food for thought when talking about the rounded back deadlift. obviously if you want to be the most safe then don't round

@ exigent

I meant you can use any stance, width grip, grip type (mixed, overhand or hook) and back rounding.

Bob Peoples deadliftted 715 @ 181 training alone in his basement with a back so rounded that would make any deadlift purist cry.

Still, I think his rounding at the lockout is bad, but mostly because he stops pushing with hips/glutes and uses the back only to lockout.

I was doing squats once a week for the last year so. lately i have been really working on upping the weight. Now I noticed i have stretch marks all on my hamstring/thigh area. I know its from squats as I have almost no body fat on my legs. Anything I can do for it ?? They are red like I got clawed by a wild animal

They'll get better over time (meaning more pale), but stretchmarks are there to stay, nothing you can do about them. Just wear them with pride, lots of athletes have them (and fat people like me^^). To prevent them you can use bodyoil, the stuff pregnant twomen use so that they don't get stretchmarks... but I don't know how economic this is gonna be. You cannot really use oil on your whole body all the time just because you might get bigger at some bodyparts and might get stretchmarks somewhere.

Self-analysis
DL: Leaning too far forward.. I'm going to try leaning back some next time.

Squat: I think DL affected me quite a bit haha. Form seems to get a bit better in the later sets but I'm still having some trouble coordinating all my muscles to gether. Just started high bar squatting so I expect my form will get better in time.

Deadlift is one thing I have never thought about form on; I just pick it up and put it down. Odd really considering how much time I spent on squat, bench, OHP etc.

I might have to post a form check I think.
