So back when I fucked up my hand/wrist a year ago doing cleans..
Found out today during a military medical that it was actually fractured.
Going a year with a broken hand isn't as glorious as you'd think.

So you get a thousand manly points for withstanding pain?
also you get deducted five thousand points for not going to a doctor :D.

I did go to a doctor, they told me the swelling was just minor ligament damage and to take ibuprofen. Military doctors are very hard headed

@ShaLLoW[baY]: did the pain just not bug you enough to seek further medical attention? I can't imagine a year of having that go untreated being tolerable.

It did, but like I said the military doctors (well, med techs) are of the mindset that if you're not dying it doesn't matter. At least, the ones for my school are. I asked for an x-ray for peace of mind and they said there was no time when they were sure it was nothing.

hey guys i just started SL 5x5 and i skimmed through SS, not sure which program to use.
i started squating about 2 weeks ago for the first time ever, and deadlifting as well. anyways i have a couple question for you fitness guru's and i apologize if i'm misinformed. i tried my best to research lol :
1. which program should i choose? they are pretty much the same thing but cleans instead of barbell rows. also 3x5 instead of 5x5. from quick google most people say that SS is better
2. when i'm benching and doing barbell rows i feel tied, but i don't feel any after effect in the muscles i'm supposed to be working. i know soreness isn't an indication of muscle growth or strength increasing but i don't feel burn. when i squat i feel it afterwards even if the soreness is minimal the day after. is this from too much weight or because of bad form?
3. general question : i'm gonna attempt to learn the power clean. i've read through the starting strength instructions. any quick no-no's that you can throw out there?
thanks!

1. Start with low weight (!) and add on weight every session. SS and SL 5x5 is pretty much the same thing, doesnt matter what you do.
2. Should get clearer the more weight you use, keep adding weight - but not sacrificing form.
3. There is an amazing guide in the olympic weightlifting thread. If you feel your form is bad film yourself at the gym and show it here, this goes for all the lifts.
|
i'd rtart with sl and low weights. 5x5 will give you more reps to really learn the lifts some tips for power cleans: - dont pull the bar with your arms - its not a "weighted jump." bring the bar up by extending your hips and shrugging with your shoulders - catch the bar on your shoulders not with your wrists

So tired this morning. Had to keep slapping my face in order to focus, I kept going into sort of like a day-dream state. I slept fairly decently so that can't be it. Guess it's the cut, I require more nutrients to stay awake. Still maintaining my current level in all exercises so should be fine.
Really frustrated at my squat form though. I mean yeah I can lift the weight but my knees go too far forward and my balance is too poor and I can only do 2 workreps before I have to pause to gasp for air. And my knees cave inward on the last rep, which results in me almost falling forward which results in back pains.
Crap!
Bench and deadlift are fine, really enjoying those :3

Bench and deadlift are fine, really enjoying those :3 Yeah, I'm finding squats on cut to be really brutal. I just don't have the stamina for them. First set my form is decent, second set the last few reps suck, third set I look like a moron doing 50% good mornings and 50% squats.

Or increasing calories? Some carb cycling, more food on workout days should all help. But i agree squats on a cut are really no fun.
|
I'm doing RPT and cycling my macros and whatnot but I also do early morning training with nothing but some BCAA and last nights half-a-chicken in my belly. Gonna cram some veggies in with the chicken I think, see if that solves the issues.
