Will a pair of no-brand trainers be better or worse? Or should I shell out for a name brand cross trainer? I will most likely be running on grass or side walks. I believe the safest bet is to go to a running store and do the drill where they watch you run, recommend some shoes, you try them on and buy a pair that feels good. Anything besides that way is for experienced runners who have done their research and experimented with alternative routes other than that which I mentioned.

Who ya got? I'm honestly not too sure about the women's marathon, haven't heard much news and don't know who to expect. For the 10,000 I expect medals from Farah and Gebremeskel, in that order, but Gebremeskel winning is definitely not out of the question. Bronze for me is the big question mark. Rupp hasn't been as good this year as last, but if he peaks right is obviously a threat. Then you have the Kenyans, of which I think Karoki is the biggest threat. From the Ethipians Merga has run 26:5x several times and has a good kick. Jeilan is defending champ, but has been injured and while he hasn't look great this year he hasn't looked bad either. No Kennster is a bummer though ![]()

Also, I was watching the BBC stream, and Jelian was nowhere to be seen from six laps to go until the last 300m. Can we be sure he didn't sprint across the infield or something? Finally, I was sad to see that Cam Levins has totally shaved his head. I liked him more with an afro. It made him look like Malcolm Gladwell's illegitimate son.

Rupp looked real nice for most of the race, but just did not have the same pop as in London. Jeilan really is a beautiful kicker, has probably the most "sprint" like form of any distance runner I have seen. One final thought. CANNOT believe the Kenyans and Ethiopians ran as they did. Why in the name of god does everyone think they can kick?!?! They ran a slow, even race and just handed it to Mo on a platter, Unbelievable. @Don- The Women's Marathon was a beautiful race. Straneo ran like a complete boss! Kiplagat was a little too good in the end, but that is ballsy as heck to lead for 40km on a WC race and go on to nab silver. Cool stuff.

Why in the name of god does everyone think they can kick?!?! They ran a slow, even race and just handed it to Mo on a platter, Unbelievable. I thought they were all pretty beautiful kickers. I find the grace and fluidity of a group of people running that fast in that super-efficient way oddly moving. Regarding the tactics of the east Africans, it looks to me like the Prisoner's Dilemma played out on the track. Still, this is the umpteenth time the field has played right to Farah's strength. It's not like a friggin' mystery that he's hard to beat in the last 400m. We'll see what happens in the 5k. I'm not sure Farah can't run a fast race, but if I was a contender I'd give that a shot and maybe win instead of play sit-and-kick and let Farah win for sure. And some proof of the inanity of Ethiopia's selection process: Jeilan, who finished second, would not have even made the team if he didn't have a bye as defending world champion. Also, Bekele ran a 27:12 at the Prefontaine Classic in June. That's nine seconds faster than Farah was today. Just sayin'.

While I don't think Bekele showed form indicative of being able to beat Farah, he certainly would have fared better than merga and the other guy. You know he would have been in the mix, especially since he destroyed those two at Pre. Regarding the tactics of the east Africans, it looks to me like the Prisoner's Dilemma played out on the track. Happens every time. Not a surprise, but still it makes you scratch your head. Nobody has beaten him in a sit and kick race in the last two years since Geb "One Shoe"remskel did in 2011. That's more than enough to realize it isn't happening, not to mention 3:28 1500m speed. Going fast is the ONLY option worth trying. I'd bet my life that it won't happen though, everyone thinks they can kick and no one wants to risk sacrificing themselves.

You should probably keep it easy for a long time to build up strength in your foot. But I guess you know that. Tough runs are more fun but be careful. Gratulations on the comeback, just make sure to not injure yourself again.

For some reason, the expression "next week the hay is in the barn" kept going through my head as I ran over to the track. When things got hard, I'd think "make sure that hay is in the friggin' barn!" and keep going. On an unrelated note: anyone watching the 800m final later today? Looks like it should be a heck of a race. On August 13 2013 15:03 [cF]TridenT wrote: Finally getting back to running after a 2.5 month break. In flat indoor adidas spezial shoes lol. I have admit my hips felt a bit sore afterwards but I didnt stop once so succes for me. Im looking for some proper shoes now though and I can't figure whether I should get five fingers or some shoes that fit my running style. Are there any general guidelines to be found on this?

Get to a local running shop with a treadmill. They will look at your runningstyle, at stability issues etc and let you test out some shoes that fit you. It's a little more expensive than ordering a pair online but it's not only worth it but a necessity. Running feels sooo much better and is way healthier with decent shoes that fit you. @Bonham: When is your race again? I want you to get the record so much. It's unbelievable how much effort you put into this. I wish I could be there to cheer for you or join you for the first 400m ![]() *someone posted a good evaluation of various forefoot shoes a few weeks ago.

I was putting in some longer runs + I work as a server at two restaurants so I'm always on my feet. Recovery was difficult because of work so I stopped running completely for two months with a short run at the month mark to test the healing. Yesterday I joined a 2 mile all comers race put together by the local high school cross country team. Its was 95% high school cross country kids so me being nearly 29 I was a bit out matched! It was fairly flat with a good amount of soft grass we had to run on. They had I clock at the mile mark where I was at 5:39 and finished with a 11:07 which I am extremely happy about. Guess I still have some speed in these legs ![]() ![]()

Same story as the 10 on Saturday: field goes out at a comparative stroll, Farah takes command over last 600m and holds off all challengers. Farah's kick is very impressive, maybe even unbeatable, but watching him win race after race with it is getting a bit boring. I miss Kenny B. I was wondering if his attempt to surge past Alamirew was going to be too much, especially when Soi pushed hard...but in the end it wasn't. Still don't understand what most of the field is thinking, they have to realize by now they can't beat him in a kick. As far as Kenny B I'm not sure he will ever be great on the track again, so we will have to keep out eyes on Gebriwhet and Gebremeskel, as both are young and HUGE talents. Also, what a run by Jenny Simpson, almost taking down Aregwai who has been unbeatable, and did it from the front with huge confidence. Pretty clear she is the best US 1500m runner ever.
