I recently started getting hip joint pain when doing squats and I'm about parallel. I get the pain whether I have weight on my back or not. Somehow I feel it's connected to my lower back getting hurt on deadlifts. It's still a bit achy, so I think I'll skip squats and deadlifts until it's gone.

sigh.

So I've been lifting barefoot lately, because when I did 170lb squats with the least cushioning shoes I could find, I still had a tiny balance issue (which led me to looking up optimal shoes, and choosing to go barefoot until (if?) the gym yells at me about it). Happily surprised at the significant change in stability, especially since I wasn't using nike shocks or anything like that

But for my birthday my dad got me adidas combat III's, which are apparently wrestling shoes. I'm fine sticking with barefoot until I start incorporating powercleans and front squats- which if I understand correctly are optimally performed with raised heel, hard sole shoes. Any suggestions on keeping/returning these? I'd be willing to put more money over the $40 these go for as well, although I don't want to go as far as $200 as I've seen some lifting shoes go for.

I still often squat and deadlift barefoot unless i already have my weightlifting shoes on (which i always use when cleaning and snatching)
These are the shoes i have:

and here's a good place to check out your options

A comical review of the nike shoe:
Cons: Weight - surprisingly heavy, almost boot-like. My most recent shoe was the Nike Free Dynamic TR ... this shoe probably weighs twice as much (at least), but you get used to it. Awkward to walk in, virtually impossible to run in (the power bridge doesn't let my foot roll normally). The hard sole is noisy when walking on hard surfaces like concrete or tile.

Wtf how much walking is this kid doing in them? why is he comparing them to nike frees? hahaha

Awesome, thanks. Any reason I shouldn't consider the rogue 2009 over the 2010? Or wait for the price drop when the 2011s come out?

Anyways if I were to get $200 shoes, I'd get the adidas http://buyweightliftingshoes.com/reviews/adidas-adistar-weightlifting/ just because I think they look the best

The red nikes are sooooo sick, but yeah the only real difference i can see between the 09 and 10 is different looking material in the heel. Might be able to find a comparison via google.
i <3 mine, they feel awesome, they're comfy, they're stylish enough where i don't feel like a retard wearing them when i go to a commercial gym, and i think my jerk and snatch both went up like 10kg after i got them lol. but the rubber part on front is starting to peel off, i can probably just glue it. If you do get them, pay attention to the sizing they tell you to follow.

So I missed my workout Tuesday.

The night before I stayed up until 1 or 2 to study for stats. had to get up at 6ish... but at least I'm wanting for murder after killing that exam.
that day took my exam, went into work and worked till four, then had to go to a psychology career thing until five. I got home and laid down to relax a little bit and fell asleep in ten minutes on accident.

But oh well, not the end of the world. I'm going today to do press/chinups (Squat/bench/DL tomorrow)
Moving into a house with a few buds for a couple of months for super cheap. It'll be a good time lol

Thinking about starting to mix in running when I stall (Should be soon, I've been SS for two or three months by now...)

My plan is to simply do something like
Monday: Squat, Bench/OH Press, Weighted Chins (Or rows? Hm.)
Wednesday: Light jog (20 min), Deadlift, Bench/OH press, the ab work they recommend in SS wikia
Friday: Squat, Bench/OH Press, Weighted pull ups.

First of all, is this any good? Should I actually do this or should I do some other program
Second of all, my cardio is completely shot. Which is why I want to add cardio (although a light amount at first. Possibly build up from there) to my work outs. Plus I don't wanna squat 3x a week, 2x is enough

Uh if u really want to do olympic lifts then get shoes. Or you can just get cheap flat sole shoes like chucks. Are you using the wrestling shoes for wrestling and lifting or just lifting? If it is just for lifting then get weightlifting shoes.

and lol good review of the nikes. They are a lot heavier, but you will feel so solid.

Try risto shoes, they are handmade so they prob will hold better than those cheaper shoes. I have do-wins and they falling apart after only a year and a half of use.

I have VS shoes which I like but as I haven't subjected them to lots of abuse yet I cannot comment on their durability. The price is good, though.

Right, my dad pretty much just went to a dicks and asked what shoes they had for lifting. I was originally going to get either vibrams or chuck taylors, but now I squat and deadlift barefoot so that's not an issue. I'm looking for oly shoes I guess, for powercleans/front squats when I get there.

So I'll check out risto and the rogue do-wins for now, suggestions still welcome~

edit: and the vs shoes to check out as well.

Very likely seeing as weightlifting is much bigger internationally than in USA. Check around online.

@catch yeah dick's doesnt have any actual weightlifting shoes or any employees that know what the hell a weightlifing shoe entails. I'm surprised he didn't come home with running shoes :p

VS are dowins im pretty sure. They have the same style and look exactly like mine but just has different colors.

@ zafrumi, what shoes?

btw I like my dowins, I probably dont take good care of them as I should be haha. I wore addias, and nikes before. Addias shoes are too narrow for my feet so I dont like them. Nikes were amazing though, the stability of the shoes were way better than my dowins. On the downside the shoes are heavier, but they shouldnt be a problem once you get used to it.

you can look here too (I probably should mention werksan since coaches of my team own it) :D

dowins should be sold in europe.(not a clue where though) Risto should sell internationally since they usually travel to countries to market their shoe.

addias weightlifting shoes are the most popular, they should be easy to find.

I'm currently using an old pair of nike basketball shoes that I had from highschool to do my power cleans. They almost perfectly fit the given description, being very heavy, solid through the center (only palce with a noticeable give is the toe) and a raised heal. They're not some crap like shox either, they're a thick (about an inch in the back, half an inch in the front) dense piece of rubber the whole way through. I'll probably stick with these throughout SS, and invest in a solid pair of weightlifting shoes if I make it to doing oly lifts. That should be significantly down the road though - decaf is snatching more than I squat.

I squat/deadlift either in a pair of pumas that I have without almost no sole at all, or straight out barefoot. Makes barely a difference to go barefoot over the pumas, but vs running shoes or vs the basketball shoes it's pretty significant. The raised heel kills me, and I can't put the right force into my squat.

Day 6 was easy. Gonna try to get in the gym next 2 days in a row. And go to practice tomorrow night ^_^
Power Snatch: 1x2 @ 70, 5x2 @ 80 Every rep flew up and finished ez
Power C&J: 1x2 @ 92.5 5x1 @ 102.5 Ez, didn't even have to put in much effort just focused on form
Front Squat: 1x2 @ 265, 1x2 @ 280 Need to adjust my front squat max higher ^_^

Tomorrow not a lot of reps, but couple 90-95% efforts on snatch, cj, back squat.

Back feels fine, and if it acts up i just pop it. What i need are exercise to help it stay there but the chiro i saw last semester didn't really give me anything to work with and i dont have a PT i can go see for free up here. Got anything for me? I've mostly been doing planks to help it out, and started adding side plank + leg adduction.

Do you know if anything on one side is looser than the other or tighter than the other? That's generally what you want to look at first adn then go from there.

I haven't seen you and I'm not particularly good with SI/hip mechanics to spot anything even if I know imbalances yet so.... my advice in this area probably won't be that great.

I have a similar issue that I haven't been able to figure out yet... hopefully over the course of this semester I can learn more enough to help myself and others
