Some good resources in the first post. Glad to see that people are doing Starting Strength instead of the usual bullshit you'll typically find on bb.com, etc.

I'm a casual SC2-player since a few weeks back but do a lot of coaching & writing about training & diet, etc.

I have a site that is fairly popular and would like to link to a few articles that people may find informative.

The Truth About Alcohol, Fat Loss and Muscle Growth

http://www.leangains.com/2010/07/truth-about-alcohol-fat-loss-and-muscle.html

Top Ten Fasting Myths Debunked

http://www.leangains.com/2010/10/top-ten-fasting-myths-debunked.html

These have gone viral with 200+ tweets & 1000+ FB likes, etc. I make a point out of linking to studies on PubMed for the various claims and such, for whatever that's worth.

Saw Robb Wolf's name on the first site & he tends to mention me in his podcasts every so often. Have also worked with Richard from freetheanimal.com, who was also mentioned there. He did an interview series with me, first part's here: http://freetheanimal.com/2010/10/leangains-martin-berkhan-means-it.html

Just mentioning this as I assume people visit Wolf/freetheanimal & that might serve for some indication that I'm not completely full of shit & some random anon internet expert.

So that's that.

Here's my SC2-profile btw: http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/profile/1791448/1/Leangains/

Not that amazing, but just got started & keeping it casual as I don't have much time to play. Figured I'd throw that in there in case someone thinks I'm here to sell you some shit, which I'm not. Only here for the SC2-stuff & read threads with great interest.

Anyway, this is my way of unlurking. Not sure if this was ok or not given the rules of this board, so feel free to delete this post if deemed inappropriate.

If you're really Martin Berkhan I'd like to thank you for opening my eyes about food nutrition and abolishing the myths I used to be a slave to. I'm a fan of your website and of your no-bullshit methodology.
Incidentally, is your SC2 hobby the reason for your book being delayed?

I'm almost positive you have been linked to somewhere in this thread (or in the 2010 thread) so pretty sure you're welcome here anytime

Any comments on SS or what to look for once one has gotten to the limit of SS and the intermediate novice stage?

Yeah, I'm him. A mod could probably verify it by my email account if there are any doubts. Glad to hear you like my site and thanks for the kind words.

As for my SC hobby being the reason for the book being so shamelessly delayed...Well, not quite. Not yet at least. But this game is addicting as hell. It's harder to keep the cravings for it at bay for each day that passes :D

Seriously though, so far I actually find it refreshing to geek out into some other realm than nutrition and training. Been working a shitload & it gets to be a problem when your work = also your hobby = something you think about 24/7. Just too much diet, training, etc. Good to have something else to take the mind of it all. My work is also more focused that way.

Hmmm, I only said alcohol and test... looks like I was slighly incorrect there (well, I was talking about binging so shrug) unless you're a chronic drinker.

Overall, a drink or so everyday has shown positive effects on health just from stress reduction alone like the wine so

Failed my squat for the first time today, at 90 kg. I hadn't thought about the weight that I was adding in the last two weeks or so, and when I just now stepped back to calculate that number, I'm amazed. I've added 30 kilos in 18 days to my squat. I still don't think it's time to reset... If I had been more rested and better hydrated, I could have finished the set out (did 5/4/3, took off ten pounds and did another set of 5) Wish my bench could make progress like that (appears to be permanently stuck at 135).

So I feel as if I've been dehydrated for the last couple days (since about thursday), despite drinking over 4 liters of water each day. My muscles, particularly calves, have been cramping up because of it - and most of the time in fact they actually feel "elastic" - If I bend my knee, it's like stretching a rubber band, and gets harder and harder to do as I stretch further. As soon as I stop trying to bend it, it snaps right back down to a straight leg. Muscles are VERY tight. I've practically felt as if my quads have been "flexed" ever since my previous workout to this one, which was early on sunday. My quads have also been more engaged whenever I'm standing or walking lately, and I'm leaning back naturally, putting weight on the heel of my foot rather than over the middle of it. It's like I'm standing in my squatting form no matter what I am doing in my actual day. So weird.

Haemonculus.... Wait, what? when did we get a girl start posting in here? I need to read more carefully. Exciting news.

So new lift maxes....
190 lb Squat
135 lb Bench (still. Been here for >2 months, no matter what I do)
80 lb overhead press (only recently getting serious about this one)
240 lb Deadlift

As you get more serious about your overhead press you will probably be able to break through on your bench, i know the shoulder work i got from snatching helped mine out quite a bit.

Are you supplementing with vit d? If you're oversensitive/have too much of it it can lead to dehydration. Try foam rolling your tight muscles.

I've been taking Vit D for five months now, I've been on a consistant dosage for two months. I don't think that's what's doing it. It's probably just the extra thousand calories a day I've been eating that my body isn't used to metabolizing just yet. Maybe I just need to drink more.

If this really is you (you can never be sure on the internet), this is quite the coincidence. I've actually be on the Leangains method for a bit, but due to repeated illness I've had to go off/get back on every now and then.

What I like about intermittent fasting methods like Eat Stop Eat and Leangains is that they actually make things easier in terms of time management. Your typical bodybuilding nutrition program is both ineffective in that eating six times a day is a waste (unless you're bulking relentlessly and this makes it easier to take in sufficient calories), and it is also extremely hard. Nobody has the time to eat six meals a day, let alone cook six meals a day. I barely find the time to eat my 12:00, 4:00, and 8:00 meals considering my schedule. This isn't even taking into consideration how expensive it can be to eat frequently.

I wonder if intermittent fasting would be a good way to go for strength athletes who have to compete at a certain weight. I understand that it can be hard to stay in a weight class (especially the lower classes), but IF could be a good option here.

Anyway, appreciate the work you've done.

Finally got my roommate to stop doing stupid flies and curls and shit and taught him snatch and cj for two hours. Unfortunately he's also the most athletic kid i know so in a month he'll probably be 20 pounds lighter and lifting 20 pounds more than me T_T

And on foam rolling, how often should i do it and for how long? Same with popping my SI joint back into place via joint manipulation, and am i always going to have to do this?

I'd do foam rolls the whole day if I could. The only thing my new gym is lacking is foam rolls and I miss them sorely.

I use them to warm up before sessions.

How often can I/should I do cleans? I want to do them today too but I did them on Monday :0?
