Zafrumi: post a vid. So much easier to analyze your form then and from that possible correct it.

Hip Extension: thrusting your hips forward
Here's an awkward illustration. Imagine you have no arms. They were taken from you by the man standing right on the edge of that cliff over there. Now imagine you walk up directly behind him and you shove him as hard as you can with your pelvis. That's how hard you want to be thrusting your hips forward. (Yeah, I said it was awkward... but what hip thrusting analogy isn't?)
Power Shrug
Explosively shrugging your shoulders up to your ears. Imagine trying to touch your shoulders to your ears as fast as you can.
Foot Stomp Stomp your feet on the landing. If you're wearing weightlifting shoes it should sound like a gunshot.

That helped me. You should also read rest of the stuff at http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ:The_Lifts#The_Powerclean

nice analogy i'll try to focus on that the next time. I guess its just hard because there are so many things you need to remember for this exercise.. kinda overwhelming when you do it the first time. I'll post some vids when I get home from work

@funkie: SS says cleans should only be done every other workout I think? theres probably a good reason behind it ^^

I noticed that when I tried to do them slowly, I invariably did them wrong. To get the basics down, just think "explode off the ground, shrug/flip, then drop under bar. Elbows up." Three simple, quick steps. beyond that, take videos of yourself and work on little things one at a time. Actually make it a point to do an exaggerated shrug of your shoulders, even (and especially) if the weight is light. Once you get it a couple of times, you should be alright.

SI joint if anyone is manipulating it back they should ALSO be giving you exercises to help to get it to stay there.

dimsum can probably help out more but id suggest starting from the mid thigh position with just your knees slightly bent and work on only using your traps and hips to drive the bar up. videos help too! both to take of your form and to watch of correct form.

I was thinking of this, since I am suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), would it be better if I actually exercised with objects around the house? I mean I could easily pick up a wooden stool or two and use them as dumbbells for exercise. How good would this actually be?

Forgot my rags this morning, so I had to do DLs barehanded. Gave up after 2 @ 275, and then did one more and left.

it did help me realize that my grip is all fucked up, so I'm probably going to do a reset to about 205 starting next week to have better form and grip.

Would have been nice to hit 300 though (285 presently), but form >> numbers.

Also started doing deep squats, now I'm at 210, feels great actually.

I have a site that is fairly popular and would like to link to a few articles that people may find informative.

The Truth About Alcohol, Fat Loss and Muscle Growth

http://www.leangains.com/2010/07/truth-about-alcohol-fat-loss-and-muscle.html

Top Ten Fasting Myths Debunked

http://www.leangains.com/2010/10/top-ten-fasting-myths-debunked.html

These have gone viral with 200+ tweets & 1000+ FB likes, etc. I make a point out of linking to studies on PubMed for the various claims and such, for whatever that's worth.

Saw Robb Wolf's name on the first site & he tends to mention me in his podcasts every so often. Have also worked with Richard from freetheanimal.com, who was also mentioned there. He did an interview series with me, first part's here: http://freetheanimal.com/2010/10/leangains-martin-berkhan-means-it.html

Just mentioning this as I assume people visit Wolf/freetheanimal & that might serve for some indication that I'm not completely full of shit & some random anon internet expert.

So that's that.

Here's my SC2-profile btw: http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/profile/1791448/1/Leangains/

Not that amazing, but just got started & keeping it casual as I don't have much time to play. Figured I'd throw that in there in case someone thinks I'm here to sell you some shit, which I'm not. Only here for the SC2-stuff & read threads with great interest.

Anyway, this is my way of unlurking. Not sure if this was ok or not given the rules of this board, so feel free to delete this post if deemed inappropriate.

Yup, been trying to avoid them. Though I'm more interested in functional exercising. i.e. using my household items to actually do weight training and stuff.

I'm almost positive you have been linked to somewhere in this thread (or in the 2010 thread) so pretty sure you're welcome here anytime

Any comments on SS or what to look for once one has gotten to the limit of SS and the intermediate novice stage?

Cool, didn't know I had a following here.

Now re: SS, what I do is this - briefly explained - when someone is starting out almost from scratch, i.e. weak as shit:

* Modified standard beginner template (I add chins and chin-up variations)

* Milk gains on that as long as possible, when stagnation sets in ----- > reduce frequency, i.e. 3x/week squatting becomes squatting every third day or twice a week

* Milk gains on that as long as possible, when stagnation sets in ----- > new template (my own, which is either RPT or an HFT-routine, HFT = see "making high frequency training work article")

If this really is you (you can never be sure on the internet), this is quite the coincidence. I've actually be on the Leangains method for a bit, but due to repeated illness I've had to go off/get back on every now and then.

What I like about intermittent fasting methods like Eat Stop Eat and Leangains is that they actually make things easier in terms of time management. Your typical bodybuilding nutrition program is both ineffective in that eating six times a day is a waste (unless you're bulking relentlessly and this makes it easier to take in sufficient calories), and it is also extremely hard. Nobody has the time to eat six meals a day, let alone cook six meals a day. I barely find the time to eat my 12:00, 4:00, and 8:00 meals considering my schedule. This isn't even taking into consideration how expensive it can be to eat frequently.

I wonder if intermittent fasting would be a good way to go for strength athletes who have to compete at a certain weight. I understand that it can be hard to stay in a weight class (especially the lower classes), but IF could be a good option here.

Anyway, appreciate the work you've done.

Yeah, it's me & I suspected someone familiar with my site would think it's weird as hell of me showing up here but I'm really a undercover hardcore nerd.

Again, if there's any doubts a mod could shoot me an email & ask. I registered at the same email that's on the site. Won't be checking email today though.

To answer your question, yes sure, but most importantly choose a diet regimen that allows good compliance and keeps your diet in check. If that happens to be Leangains, cool, but I'm not the type to pimp this as something everyone should be doing. Personal preferences = better adherence = better adherence > potential physiological benefits, etc.
