@jupiter how much are you willing to spend? The better ones are really expensive! If you are just doing squats and deadlifts then u dont need something that expensive.

I don't know how you guys approach this, but before my deadlift sets of 5, I normally have a 5 minute staring contest with the barbell. But honestly, a deadlift single is a wonderful thing, you just try to pick the weight up and see if you are strong enough... after my 5RM deadlifts I am normally to weak to stand on my own and my pulse is at 190-200. The last rep is the most exhausting thing (mentally and physically) I can imagine. edit: gratz sjarl on your medical school succes.

Unfortunately I picked up a torn intercostal muscle on the lower back side of my ribs in jiu jitsu 6 months ago. I re-aggravated it in boxing a few months later Still horribly vulnerable to re-injury, I can barely push 30kg deadlift without being in danger :'(. You have no idea how upset it makes me when I think about the incident that gave it to me. I could have just tapped...

After I am done with Smolov I am going to Work a lot on my olypic lifts. That is some thing I have wanted to do since like Februrary, but never had the money to go to a gym with bumper plates or buy my own. Now that i have a job I am going to buy my own stuff. My garage is a way better place for me to lift than the local YMCA where they almost kicked me out for setting down a 365 DL down too hard TT. oops. Forgot to say how much I can spend. I don't have any bills to pay with this check. so about 120-150.

@Malinor: I know how you feel with the staring thing. I just try to calm my self down and then zone out and turn insanity mode on. Deadlift workouts take a long time for me to complete since I'm a great fan of resting until completely rested. After my last rep on the 185kg x 5 I felt veeeeery lightheaded but luckily my gym has a nice comfortable couch next to the deadlift platform ![]() @sc4k: Damn, that must suck. Any rehabbing you can do for it or is it just one of those things that take insanely long time to heal?

Someday I think I'll move on to weightlifting shoes; for now I'll stick to doing everything barefoot; it's just more convenient. Just have to remember to wear black socks so I don't ruin the white ones =p. I asked a couple pages back if anyone had protein powder/creatine brand suggestions... I'm looking at getting enough to last the summer, and I care much more about the quality of the product than I do about the taste, especially with the protein where I'd prefer to have less added sugar/sweetener/crap if at all possible. Anyone have suggestions?

Dr. Sjarl - Prescribing heavy deadlifts and log presses to cure your illnesses since 2016. btw an 18 year old girl loling at your snatch is pretty demoralizing rofl. (to be fair i missed a 70kg snatch like an idiot)

But usually if you are 6', you have to go to 94+ I was curious and tried to look up who clean and jerked three times their body weight and couldnt find anything. btw I have the unbelievable bulgarian video if anyone wants to see it. I will make it private for our viewing only. If there is interest, where should I upload it privately. Common misconception. He's 5'7. There's some bulgarian sports website which drastically inflates the heights of all athletes and now everyone believes he is very tall for a 77kg lifter. If you see the ironmind tape 1998 bulgaria he's the same height at Peter Tanev (who is definitely 5'7), and a little bit shorter than Galabin Boevski (who is 5'9 at 69kg). You can also tell just looking at the heights of the squat stands.

Also decaf you'd like this, random college summer reunion planned for sometime next month. On the activity list is a game of rugby. Last time I played rugby in college I was pretty much a scrawny winger or center. Nowadays I'm probably closer in build to the scrum positions; at least amongst all my friends.

ultimate cheap shoe, $40 + ~$10 shipping. Pretty fast shipping. I just got it in the mail. Nothing fancy, not super breathable. Construction feels solid, seems perfectly serviceable. EDIT: Nooo price went up for some reason. Sorry man =(

It's funny how Vanev is indisputably better than fellow 77kg lifter Petar Tanev in that video; he front squats like 10kg more, effortlessly c+js 200kg, and takes the 10 close tries at 210 while Tanev never makes a snatch over 150kg and fails to front squat 235 a few times. A year later, just before the 1999 world champs, Bulgaria would sell most of it's "2nd string" lifters to Qatar for 1 million $ each. Tanev, now renamed S. Badr, once sold to Qatar, crushes Vanev and Jeliozkov winning gold at the world championships around 4 weeks after the sale. Bet the Bulgarians regret that one. Even if Vanev had made the 212.5kg WR c+j, he still would have been second to Tanev/Badr. Tanev was probably the "stronger" lifter, but he just had worse technique issues with that goofy leap back and constantly missing behind. I think the coach in the Qatar uniform is actually also Bulgarian and sold to Qatar, it looks like Zlaten Ivanov the assistant coach from the ironmind DVD>

I'm gonna try my best for 7-8 a night from now on though, see if I can manage to not be half asleep all day lol btw excellent choice, 7 is my favorite as well tiiiiiiifaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ♥.♥

I'm currently doing p90x lean (because that's what my wife wanted to do haha) and going to the gym for additional sets beyond that to keep up my cardio and heavy lifts. I'm 25, and have been going to the gym for about 7 years on and off. More regularly in the last 5 years, and pretty much like an addict for the last 2. I've gone from 245lbs (111kg's) at 30% bf to (I haven't gotten it tested in a bit) 193lbs (87kg's) at 12% bf My goal for the next 6 months is to get to about 9% bf, and have a 2x body mass bench/ /3x body mass deadlift I've read the majority of this thread, and I have to say it's awesome to see the nerds pumping the Iron (said in a Schwarzenegger accent) ![]()
