It's important because when Pokemons are planned to one-shot the opposition, you want to attack first. Iirc there's also a lot of switching involved (and you need Pokemons able to withstand a hit for this), moves that set "traps" which hurt or poison Pokemons when they're switched in, and mindgames around when you're switching, what you're expected to switch into, the moves your opponent is likely to use, etc. (some moves prevent switching (or running away if it's against a wild Pokemon) but I don't think they're used? There's also a move which is weak, but if used the turn the enemy switches out, you have priority to hit the current Pokemon and the move gets a huge power boost). | ||
