End of 2016, Swedes were ranked 1st, 5th, and then you had to go all the way down to 63rd till you get to another. Meanwhile, just the USA has 40 of the top 50.

The classic "we've good at games no one else plays and even then not at the very top" :D Just like how we good at cricket and rugby!

We should just change this over to a HotS forum because that's clearly the superior moba. Seriously? I've never been to shit like reddit etc., but there was a reasonable demand for things like tactics and strategy on this website once. It's just that the supply was both limited and horribly polluted beyond digestibility I'm sure there would be some interest in strategy discussion even now, but I have the awful (good?) feeling that everyone reasonably high rated is in the senpai skype group. nah LL NA players dead and hasn't been alive at least since i started frequenting here around s3-s4
we had less at both the higer levels (say d1/masters+) and overall pool of high diamond players
eu posters always had the higher average rank and higher peak ranks from at least semi active posters.
also the eu posters seemed to be more consistent with playing (and playing together). i've added several NA people and i've seen very inconsistent frequency of play including myself.

Spoken like a true american.
That said, Armada is washed up and Leffen is terrible. We also have a shitty puff player in top 5.
This topic triggers me lets change subjects.

If someone wrote an actually good guide/piece on something, it got basically ignored. Back in the day one or two inhouses did way more than any guide ever did for the people actually trying to learn. They just eventually died off and turned into 5's, which in turn got rekt by ranked restrictions splitting everyone up.
I still dream of what the strat section could have turned into if teut had been given mod powers there though... That subforum would have been legendary :D

Didn't you almost manage to sneak it through without anyone noticing, or is that just time glorifying fuzzy memories

I offered to bring a bunch of EU bigpros to help do strategy work for the site, Teut included, but he said he was too busy. In retrospect, it was already the beginning of the end of League on the TeamLiquid. The transition to LL was basically a huge garbo mess because admins chose to drag their feet for so long. "Better not jump on that train with the most popular game by considerable margins. But wait, we better also expand into HS, CS:GO, and Smash." Fwiw, I really do blame our poor (lack thereof?) transition into League on people who let personal game preference take precedence over what would've been best for this community. And this is coming from someone who's been with TL since 2002.
|
As much as I agree (as I'm sure does everyone else), I feel like even had the transition been made earlier and more smoothly, the competition with reddit would have made things exceedingly difficult since it had already been the go to forum for ages already.
Basically TL should have jumped on LoL support back when TL A was a thing.

I just dont think the league community is as fitting to an older board style like TL/LL. It's a lot more, relaxed and visual to read breakdowns like the BW days. Videos they'll do, but videos dont play well on this kind of board.

Yeah, I got offered modship too, but when TL needed me the most, I was too salty. LOL
damm if you asked me like 1 day before banning Roffles I woulda dicked the strategy section into shape so hard it'd get banned on pornhub

There's a few main problems with strategy content -Good content is time consuming, Easy to lose motivation to keep putting it out. -The main strategy section here was just guides. The better you get the more you realise that you know almost nothing except about maybe a few of your main champions and even then you usually only play a few different builds. That means you'd need a ton of players to have decent guides. -Trash arguments as outlined by KD. General mod consensus is to just say "stop you've argued enough" which is generally unsatisfying for the contributors to said argument. A good player could easily say one guy is clearly wrong but it would be a bit oppressive to have that as the moderator action.
Conventional wisdom normally says that you shouldn't write people off because of their rank, but rather find faults in their logic, but the arguments tend to be highly abstracted so I think it would only be practical for peoples solo q rank to be associated with each opinion; someone higher ranked can be wrong too but you'd need a more convincing argument to make up for the possibility the lower skill environment isn't clouding your judgement.
The easiest way to get good strategy discussion is lower ranked guys asking questions to learn and the higher level skill guys will usually have come across and thought about the same problem and can quickly answer.
If you want standalone content I think the best would be game analysis at this point. As mentioned guides require too much individual expertise to be able to have one for each champion, better to look at the what the pros do I guess.
Someone who doesn't main those champions could still analyse a specific lane matchup on a game by game basis.
Scip and I could probably do some game analysis of some of our 5's games which are somewhat organised and at least at diamond MMR. Would basically need a write up about the game in general and gifs and specific analysis of key teamfights and ganks or map movements.
The thing is that would require a pretty insane amount of work. Someone to record and upload a ton of gifv's from the replay, (or use a youtube vod with timestamps but that's messy and doesn't loop). Then a ton of analysis of team comps team fights and things like map movement.
People might read them but we'd probably get bored of the workload and give up after a couple of game's similar to what happened with scip jungle challenge.
If you had a few people working on it and did only one game a week maybe it would be manageable. Could be an idle thing to work on that week instead of browsing more reddit, if it only took an hour per person or so.

guides dont only have to be about champions you know... you can have guides for general aspects of the game such as warding, map control etc etc. there arent any on ll from what i can see but if you look at ld there are multiple threads that attempt to explain general concepts at an advanced level rather than the really basic shit.
|
We had those sorts of guides, they just got written once and then didn't need to be updated ever.
