It's logical, but from a UX perspective you may be asking other engineers to parse a rarely seen syntax. That's where the readability/troubleshooting hit comes from. One liners can also get lost in larger blocks of code, though that's typically more the fault of poor structure and insufficient code comments.

"Uh, they say this dropdown doesn't filter the search results like it should... but it doesn't do it at all to begin with! How did they get that?
... so there's this commit on March 8th that's talking about something else and removed that code. And the issue on the dropdown was created on March 10th... so the commit prob wasn't deployed yet.
And there's an issue created about a bugged piece of code that was deleted without documenting it a couple days prior anyway."

Work today.
Too much turnover on this project, half the stuff's been done by several different people who've left already. D:

Should is the operative word. Even if your chosen programming language doesn't have any quirks or oddities*, any program with a modicum of complexity is going to have domain knowledge, edge cases, and weird interactions not readily discernible even from well formed code. You don't need to comment everything. but I've yet the meet a dev who comments more than necessary (including me).

My company's official stance is that comments can be more cluttered/confusing than not, so if you properly name your variables and break out code into properly named functions based on what they do, it should be easy to parse.

This has never been true.

I try to explain concisely and clearly what a block does so you don't have to read everything to get a process. Those who read my posts here probably have a good idea how that ends up...

So you steer clear of the rand() functions?

As I'm learning Python, I figured I'd throw a super useful resource I've found here. I stumbled on this from a Reddit post a week or two ago - Python For Scientists and Engineers book is free online. It's been super helpful to learn some basics.

Also, bonus tutorial on why Little Bobby Tables breaks things: http://pythonforengineers.com/xkcd-style-sql-injection-hack-in-python/

I always got the joke, but now I understand how it works :D

Really it comes down to everyone doing the same thing. If everyone is using one liner if statements then you're probably aware they exist. If there's one special snowflake who writes code differently you're probably going to have problems understanding it.

Fixed that for you. We are getting there though.

Oh wait maybe that's just LL. How's the traffic to TL main site doing?

its just ll. for a game that is "supposed to be" bigger than dota, this site is indeed dead in comparison to tl or ld.
and on tl there are a lot of threads unrelated to starcraft that are going fine, but they all have their own topics. no thread allows discussion of completely random things which is sad cause i occasionally think of sqsa worthy stuff that are irrelevant to games.

also, why are there so many programmers here wtf?

and i just realised that post count on ll doesnt take into account post counts on the other sites. then how the fk do people like gahlo have 18k posts here? thats insane. 24k on alaric wtf? their post counts probably make up for like 25% of ll's total posts lol
