The thing that makes them interesting (for me anyway) is the flaws and oddities that make each character unique. I had a fairly weird exchange with one of my coworkers over Ender once. + Show Spoiler [Ender's game spoiler] + So she was talking about it and how accurately it portrayed geniuses just like the ones in her family, etc., and then I mentioned that when I read it years ago I was surprised at how violent the shower scene was where Ender kills the other kid (or maybe my memory is faulty and he was just seriously injured? IDK it's been 10+ years). It was kind of jarring for me at the time. My coworker's response was that this was just how geniuses thought. Which creeped me out even more because I couldn't remember how Ender "thought" exactly, only that there was violence and Ender wanted to finish things right there. I mean I read the redwall books and stuff but there's a huge difference between that and a much more visceral and detailed naked shower fight.

But Ender realises that if you hurt someone, they are going to remember it and bear a grudge and come after you again. Bozo is also the leader of his gang. If you want to deal with something, you need to be absolute and make sure you do a full job. So the correct course of action is to hurt him so bad and so much, he will fear Ender and never come back again. Why would you leave loose ends lying around when you can tie them up right here? So he continues to hit Bozo even after he stops moving because you make sure you do a complete job. Ender has also realised that during his time here that adults are completely useless. He has to fight things for himself and do things for himself. So he takes what he feels is the logical course of action, which is to eliminate the threat right then and there. And that's why Bozo dies.

In the edition I read he wrote a forward indicating to his critics that yes, it's true that child geniuses don't actually bear any resemblance to the ones in his book, but fuck you, it's literature. I'm inclined to think your coworker is full of shit, but I don't have my copy of the book around so if I'm not sure if misremembering.

There's a Korean Festival of some sort, idk Shmeezy just told me to come so I threw money away lol Hello Venus is the only one I really know, here's the event site. http://koreanassociation.org/korusfest/ Apparently the festival and performances are free, otherwise I'm sneaking in when I get there lol
