It's a lot like apples to apples in the fact that it's a card game where everybody plays/is a judge and you decide the winner based on who gets to an arbitrary amount of rounds win.

There are a lot of games like that.

D&D requires a really good DM who spends time to build a campaign. That's hard to find.

Haha I'm playing AoE2HD ranked and there is SUCH high latency between most matches, reminds me of BW when you're not playing on Iccup. How did the ICCUP guys manage to make ping pretty much non-existent? It's such a bitch to play with like .3 sec delay.

Games back then were hilarious because of de-sync.

Happened to me today. My first loss was a DC which had said I won the game. Ended up losing a legit match later anyways, some people are p damn good at this game.

It's not like you can micro in AoEiiHD. So it's not sooo terrible. That being said, I'm total scrub tier at AoE2.

EDIT: so apparently more family members are coming over for Christmas dinner than I had anticipated, so I guess I'm going Xmas shopping tomorrow. LOL.

It doesn't help that D&D is probably the most prolific roleplaying system despite being one of the absolute worse ones to start learning to roleplay with.

It's extraordinarily rules-heavy which adds a lot of tedium to GMing, while at the same time not really being a very *good* set of rules for what it does (D&D's core rules are overly combat-centric). Freeform systems are honestly better to learn to roleplay with.

I will second this. The freeform system my friends and I play with is one of my favorite things to do period.

Honestly, it's mostly all micro. Kind of like War3, building placements and right clicking.

you guys ever do a "talking adventure"? it's basically a roleplaying game where everything is made up on the spot and details are stored in your head. back in high school, my friends and I would play it on the bus or walking between classes. yea, we were that nerdy.

That's pretty much how freeform RP systems work. They take out all the rules that bog down the parts of roleplaying that aren't the interesting parts of it anymore anyway now that we have video games when we want to generate random numbers for killing imaginary orcs.

The purpose of rules in roleplaying is to create variation and surprises so that there's some aspect of the story that's outside of the storyteller's direct control forcing you to improvise. The problem is that with D&D's rules being so combat-centric, failure tends to just involve a main character dying.

I will go on record and say that if my current campaign ends before the LoL roleplay starts, I will (with Req's blessing) run the LoL one (if he doesn't want to do so). However, that's going to be quite the long while I think.

However I will try and come up with a character soonish. Hoping to use some break time to figure some of that out.
