Okay, so I've finally decided to actually get into superhero stuff. Every time I've tried to in the past I'm just like "uh, some of these characters at a bajillionty years old and I don't know where to start."

tl;dr Where should I start for the current continuity for the major titles on the Marvel side?

Generally if you really really want to know backgrounds just use the Marvel Wiki or regular wikipedia, it's easier than finding ancient comics.

If you just want to get into them... go buy comics lol. Pretty much every time an arc is finished they release it as a full compilation, so find stories you think sound interesting and then buy those. For Marvel, Civil War is the one a lot of people enjoy starting with. You can get Civil War compilations, and then there's like Civil War: Captain America or Civil War: Iron Man or whatever you can read to see their side of the story.

Don't just like go buy the most recent volume of whatever, find a full story. If you like Iron Man, Demon in a Bottle is a bit dated but decent, Extremis is good and pretty recent. Hulk has the Planet Hulk and World War Hulk stories (though WWHulk is a Marvel-wide story). etc.

i dont like old movies cause they're basically shitty watered down books

Well, a lot of them were like that, yeah, but there's no way it's even 50%. Comedies basically never, some like it hot or big business or modern times or safety last come to mind. Only high profile adaption I can think of is the philadelphia story and it's not even from a book.

Actually comedies today are much much more likely to be aping a novel because so many of them are basically just modernized jane austen.

It's when you get into the drama that adaptions (and if you saw a movie that was trying to be novelistic, it was an adaptation) start to clog up the works. Some of them turn out well like treasure of the sierra madre or gone with the wind or the big sleep, but for every one of those there's some bullshit like the hustler. So I can buy that argument, sorta-ish, except it's easy to display the tiniest shred of selectively instead of just selecting movies at random, so the relative proportion of shit to money is not that significant.

well i dont really watch comedies so those are out

i confess i have no desire to read or watch gone with the wind the story seems so boring to me lol orz same with the big sleep

for me, books and movies and anime and manga are just about the story, and i think im after a different sort of story when im reading compared to when im watching a movie

like i'd never watch a movie adaptation of anna karenina or crime and punishment cause it'd just feel super boring lol

and the kinds of stories that dominated "older" films all feel boring to me

i'd much rather watch inception than read a book version of inception (god that'd be awful); similar i'd rather read a lot of books than watch a movie adaptation...

So you want stories from books and just blockbusters from movies? That's cool, I can respect that, but that's not really a reason to call movies trash just because it's outside your wheelhouse.

The most important things you need to keep track of superheros for the movies.
Super powers (limitation of powers can change based on publication, for example superman used to not have the ability to fly, just had super jumping abilities), origin story (may differ slightly depending on publication), general demeanor/attitude, beliefs, and that's pretty much it.
Plot/story are usually just reflection of the era it was written in.

Depends. Batman movies were good movies, but I wouldn't say they're good "Batman" movies.

I dislike comedy movies too
I used to kinda like them but then I discovered standups. Offering me to watch a comedy movie is like offering mildly sweetened water to a heroine addict.

Cinematic was awesome, alpha teaser looked solid(color wise it looked very WC3'ish on the SC2 engine, so excited).

Depends on what you like imo. Standups obviously superior for jokes, but they obviously can't really do situational comedy or slapstick (outside of a few performers, but then it's really more of a show than just a standup).

They're showing the keynote on the WCS stream for SC2.

Battle.net just exploded because they announced beta signups for Heroes going live today(they're not up just yet, don't contribute to the explosion).

I'm always annoyed when new games that I might want to play are announced because I know I either won't have time to play them, or I won't have the drive to break free of the games I'm comfortable playing.
