I personally preferred the first one over the second, origin story plots are always the best. 2nd one only gets a lot of praise due to acting, but overall the first was better. I know my brother likes the first one more the second one, and I know that some people don't like the third movie at all. That's fine and I respect that. For the Dark Knight though, part of the reason why I love it so much is because it's such a well crafted film. Sure the acting is great but that's not the only thing that's great about it. If you actually take a careful look at the movie and analyze the film in detail, there is a LOT going on. This includes clever uses of symbolism, motifs, etc. Most of the dialogue is meaningful and there is a lot of foreshadowing in the film. Not to mention the musical score is absolutely mind blowingly amazing. But this is just my opinion. I personally see the Dark Knight as a "smart" film but I'm sure many others disagree. I also see it less of an action movie and more of a serious crime drama, which I think helps the rewatchability for me. I just find it to be an incredibly thought provoking film as well.

The music score is also classic Zimmer so while I find it good it's hard to call amazing as it's something we've heard before countless times. Still think Gladiator and The Rock are his best scores that I've watched.

+ Show Spoiler + Ellie just killed psycho town leader and we're back to Joel coming into town. I also ask because day9's playthrough speed/consistency makes it difficult to tell how close I actually am to the end.

The Dark Knight kind of just borrowed plot ideas from Nolan's other movies and executed it in a more grand comic book way. Think you overselling it by a lot calling it "thought provoking". It's a great film(I loved it) but when you call something "thought provoking" that puts a certain expectation for the film which it just doesn't meet. The only ones I could call maybe equal are X2, Watchmen and a little behind would be the likes of GotG.

It's a great film(I loved it) but when you call something "thought provoking" that puts a certain expectation for the film which it just doesn't meet. I know I'm in the minority on this one, but when I said "thought provoking" I did actually mean "thought provoking". I think there's quite a bit of Philosophy in the film in the film that isn't obvious at first. Of course that being said, I haven't watched any (actual) serious crime dramas so I probably labelled it incorrectly. I am also willing to admit that I'm INCREDIBLY biased on my views of the Dark Knight, so I am oversellilng it for sure. I still stand by my "thought provoking" statement though. Maybe not for anyone else (I really can't speak for anyone else), but watching that movie makes me think about things quite a bit. Maybe I'm thinking hard about essentially nothing, or maybe I'm just easily amused.

It'll probably be obvious but maybe a good break point where I only have 15 or so min left? + Show Spoiler + Ellie just killed psycho town leader and we're back to Joel coming into town. I also ask because day9's playthrough speed/consistency makes it difficult to tell how close I actually am to the end. You're fairly close to the end but there's still a ways to go. I would recommend saving it though, the final chapter is... well it's something special.

You just really need to explain your horizons with stories ![]() I found Memento one of his better films in this regard. Pity it gets so overshadowed by his bigger more flashy movies.

Or maybe I've just haven't been exposed to truly "thought provoking" films or maybe you guys have different standards than I do. I actually haven't seen a whole lot of films, so I'm willing to defer to your guys judgement!

lol Playstation intro "actual ingame engine" yeah for a PC maybe. Note they are going the "aggressive DLC" route with this thing so as far as I'm concerned this is a pass. At the very least not going to touch it till after release because you know, pre-ordering is a for bitches. Remember when dev's made complete games and then added onto it instead of pre-cutting content for you to buy later? I miss those days. Also stop being hipsters calling the dark knight "though provoking if only for the mainstream" spiel. You sound like you're one step away from attending an independent film festival with a latte and a macbook.
