i'm fantastic at neither, but when you look at the average person, they're terrible at both so even mediocrity looks super good. if you're just prepping yourself for freshman year where you can bust out a guitar, play a cutesy song and sing -> get laid, then i have a literal billion recommendations of easy-to-play songs that sound great solo.

if you're trying to get into a band, focusing on guitar alone is probably enough. you don't have to be a great singer, because you'll probably find that recruiting a great singer is a better path anyway.

and, you'd be really really surprised at the chances you'll get to impress with just some slick guitar skills. maybe not if you only learn other peoples' music, but try composing some cool works and play them at a local coffee shop open mic. those are the kind of people that appreciate musicianship anyway... you're not gonna impress susie q highschooler with solid guitar skills because she's a robot that is taught to only listen to katy perry and make duck faces

Oh this isn't a girl thing. I play at restaraunts and shit sometime which is fun but I'm restricted to instrumental covers which can be awesome sometime (I have a sick rendition of an Explosions In The Sky song) but I wanna branch out but I'm not confident in my singing yet. I've heard some people that thought they were good singers sing and it was cringeworthy. I guess the best way to learn is to just practice. Singing lessons seem like overkill.

If you're a church-goer, join your choir and bug your choir director for tips and help. #1 best way to improve.

start by learning songs that are easy to play (so you can focus on the singing) and very much within your vocal range (so you can build confidence). slowly expand to songs outside of your vocal range so you can enlarge it, then look to add your own guitar flourishes to the songs or play more complex songs

and monte's idea about choir is also true and brilliant

i'm just watching some guys play hearthstone (Gangsta Trump, last night), does anyone else feel that the game insults your intelligence? it seems super obvious what to do every turn.
Is deck building where it's at? I don't know anything about that. Though it seems everyone just put all their good cards in their deck, I haven't seen real combos or anything.

I don't know, maybe mine is a retarded opinion. I only watched it through stream for a few hours.

And all is illuminated.

There's actually some pretty crazy combos in constructed. In arena you really can't draft combos reliably and that's most of what Trump plays on stream. And honestly I was surprised by how much less obvious things were when I started playing even though I had been watching trump a ton, unless you're really experienced with card games already it's hard to see the most efficient plays and what cards are the best, after playing and going back to watching Trump I had newfound respect for good players.

I tutor people in math who have a really hard time wrapping their heads around concepts that I expect would just melt in like butter on hot toast. After taking a music class I know how they feel. No matter how many times I have ideas explained or listen to examples the most basic stuff doesn't stick.

Both! You ever heard a tuba play Flight of the Bumblebees? It's pretty much the best thing in the world.

The singing part was mostly because if you know your scales with any decent mastery you can also sing because fundamentally they are the same. Just need a bit of voice control.

There are people here who don't think bagpipes (Breton or not) are awesome, so you never know, maybe some neglect tuba too. It's important to remind them of its belonging to awesome instruments.

i hate it when you take the butter out of the fridge and you try to melt it on your toast but it doesn't so you just get chunks of butter all over the toast

that's how i feel about music and math

I grew up completely surrounded by music (my parents met in high school choir, and every one of my siblings and I play instruments), so I've been singing literally my whole life. I consider myself a decent singer, but am very self conscious about it, partly because my 2 older sisters are very good singers and my brother is the singer for his band.

There are definitely a few tips I can give:

-Sing constantly. I am singing all the time, almost any time I'm listening to music. A lot of the songs I choose to listen to are songs I am physically capable of singing along with. Sometimes I challenge myself with these songs (Sleeping with Sirens singer sings pretty high, I have worked to be able to hit these notes).

-Recognize your range. Know your highest and lowest points. The more you push your range, the broader it can get (usually slowly).

-Pay attention to your pitch. This is a big one and the reason a lot of people aren't that good at singing. Again, just singing to yourself and adjusting yourself so you hit the notes right one. Accuracy is really important - hitting a B flat every time you want to hit a B, and then adjusting doesn't sound good. You want to be able to hit the note you were shooting for perfectly every time.

Honestly, it's just practice. If you have someone who can critique you from an unbiased perspective, that helps. Lessons really wouldn't necessarily be a waste of time if you can get value out of it.

"carrying"

Soniv plz, I don't even need to look at the other players' scores.

What you fail to see was how much instruction I had to be giving out the whole time =P

It should've been like a 35 minute game, but our team did the NA baron throws, and then 15 minutes later, they did too.

For the record, baron plays weren't my fault.
Yes I made some dumb choices and got caught n' shit, but I remember you getting caught a couple times too.
Vayne carried, not you.

BUT WE SHOULD TOTES DUO AGAIN 'cause that was fun.

Sing whenever you can, pay attention to your pitch, make sure you're in tune. If you're gonna challenge yourself make sure to rest your voice afterwards. Singing is one of those things where you have to just constantly do it and pay attention to yourself to improve. If you can hold a steady tune you're going to sound pretty good already.

I wish more of my friends would karaoke with me . Everyone's always so embarrassed when really who gives a shit?
