And I like the freedom they have to take their art in its own direction. I just need to get good at art first... I'm reading The Savage Detectives and from that as well as many other works I surmise all arts/humanities majors do with their time is become hipsters, hang out with other hipsters, smoke weed, and fuck each other. Why can't that be my life ![]()

It's sad, my future career is in a similar situation and I'm living in one of the worst places in the country for it.

If that doesn't work out, I guess my backup plan will be med school, buahahahahaha. I actually began college as an English major-- went into class, during introductions people talked about how they wrote stuff like "experimental poetry" and stuff like that, I got weird looks from them when I said I was a big fan of fantasy and the mechanics of what made a character or story compelling. I was the target of what they must have thought were snide and cutting comment for the next hour, dropped the major immediately afterwards.

English majors I knew thought they were making the most incisive comments on literature... honestly to me it seemed like a giant circle jerk graded entirely at the whim of the professor's personal views.
