I did and I just don't understand how can people say that Korra is even close when it comes to pacing, character development, tact of tackling the issues, overall maturity and humour. The only thing that's a clear upgrade for me is animation and build-up of the villains, altough the conclusions weren't satysfying at all. Every time I watch TLA, I like it less. I still like it, but nowhere near as much as I used to.

Oh absolutely, S3 of Korra was one of my favorite seasons of an animated show of recent years (and thus all shows since I watch mostly animated stuff). But still, if TLA is a 5/5, I'd give Korra a 3/5 - still recommendable and quite enjoyable, but I doubt it would hold it's fanbase without TLA's groundwork.

I dunno. Both of them to me were entertaining enough but nothing "classic" or anything, so I don't really feel pressured to pick one over the other. The universe is a great idea and in the hands of someone really talented, and without the shackles of Nickelodeon, they could probably make something really cool out of it.

See, I didn't really like Korra S3.
I liked it more than S2 because it had cooler bad guys, and a pretty cool ending fight scene where S2's big final fight was lame.
But it's like, it felt super disjointed from the rest of the narrative. We've got these sudden bad guys who show up out of nowhere only apparently they're super important we just haven't heard about them, and one of them becomes like the best airbender in the world in a few weeks when he just got the ability recently which was super unbelievable, etcetera.
The end of Korra season 2 set up what could have been a narrative that lasted for the rest of its run, opening the spirit portals and getting access to the spirit world. They could have done things with spirits for the rest of the show and it would have expanded the existing universe and stayed interesting. But instead the big plot point that S2 was all about was never really used again except to show cute floating bunnies from time to time.

Part of it for me is that I'm just so drawn to the thought of "elemental casting". It's always been such a boss concept for me.

I just ooze at the thought of a mature avatar series with music by Hiroyuki Sawano. Director I'm not sure honestly. All I know is I want Hiroyuki Sawano doing the soundtrack. It's a pity western animation are either for kids or comedy shows for adults. Personally feel there's so so much potential with animation compared to live action that just gets completely unused due to these preconceived notions.

I mean yeah if the big draw of the show to you was the fight scenes, Korra season 3 is fantastic.
That's not my favorite part of the universe, my favorite part is the story and worldbuilding, which Korra just did not have, especially in season 3.

Release notes are done. I feel so ashamed of how many forced love-related jokes/puns there are...

Korra S3 explored the modern Earth kingdom, showed the life of common folks, shown the Metalbenders city, Lin's family and their culture, shown another air temple and airbenders culture, gave us another secret society and fleshed out the airbender's philosophy with approach of Guru Laghima and Zaheer, shown how the royalty works and what would happen to Ba Sing Se if there was no royalty... That's so much more than other seasons.

Korra bending was small and polished. Sorry no the worst part was that they try bring up these big political and social issues but don't take the time or effort to really explore them. I understand it's primarily a kids show but if you going to bring up all these things at least do it properly. This is another thing that pales in comparison with TLA. That show had those small, subtle mentions of concepts from different philosophies and for the most part dealt with simple and personal issues (why lying is bad for one), but tackled them with a lot of maturity and depth. LoK pretty much just takes those ideas of communism, anarchy and fascism, tries to show things aren't so black&white by showing where they come from and how they hurt some people while helping others, but ultimately resort to portraying their leaders as maniacs who need to be stopped. Aside from the crazy dude in Season 2 (Unalaq... so forgettable I had to look it up), I think it was less that they were all maniacs, and more that any idea, even ones with a good basis, can turn bad if taken too far. That's not a new concept, and most of the ideas had been played out before in other media, but aside from S2 I didn't think any of the villains felt like just crazy people. They all felt fleshed out enough to have purpose that had been twisted, imo. The crazy Earth Queen. Also pushing the "United Earth States" in 30 seconds in the last episode was absolutely atrocious. They just didn't have a clear narrative they wanted for Korra. They had the random monarchy/anarchy/communism/fascism stuff while didn't really tie together well then they have Korra's personal journey of how not to be an idiot and lastly the whole "life in balance with nature" aspect. If instead of pulling all these concepts throughout the whole show they instead dealt with them some of them fully within 1/2 seasons they could have had a lot stronger narrative throughout the whole show. Instead it's just a jumbled mess. Oh I forget, throw in sexuality there as an afterthought like they did.
Am I the only one who thought their relationship had far more basis than literally any other one in either show? There are signs of that happening WAY before that last scene. They're just subtle and oriented around a growing friendship like, you know, real relationships.
Edit: Wait, THIRD best relationship. #1 is Zaheer and P'li. #2 is Varruk and Zhu Li.

She gets the least fight time out of those four AWESOME villains, which sucks. Also she mostly is just a sniper, which is never particularly interesting, sadly.
