So the goal is to force the enemy to take 7 on your turn (with Haste) or block, ideally with a bunch of little stuff, so you get a lot of counters (and survive because indestructible). During your opponent's turn you're forced to use him (and you don't have stomp/fly; does he have to participate if only enemy flyers are declared?) but thanksfully you have enough counters to survive... and no instant/sorcery was played to screw him in the meantime. Something like that? Yeah but HS has cancer hunters. Does MtG have that? Actually. Not at all.
First, the text doesn't say anything about blocking. He just attacks each turn if able. Secondly, since he has haste, if you play him in your pre-combat main phase, you'll HAVE to attack with him in combat. He'll therefore be tapped and won't be able to block. If you want to block with him, you can play him in your second main phase and then block with him, but that's not really the goal.
The goal of the card is basically to be an unblock-able 7/2 for 5 mana.

It was perfect for when I finished working Saturday morning and was still too hungover to actually play a mechanically intensive game. I ended up finally getting hooked (now that I've found a constructed deck I can play) and now I'm grinding for 2nd quarter.
Played a rogue arena and went 7-3, which was a vast improvement over the last 3 or 4 2-3s

... what makes him unblockable? :|
Also MB that Jace is dirty wtf, pay 5, draw a card, your opponent discards 11. Does
7/1/2013: Planeswalkers are permanents. You can cast one at the time you could cast a sorcery. When your planeswalker spell resolves, it enters the battlefield under your control. mean that instants that counter sorceries can be played to prevent a planeswalker from being played?

Yea I understand why it's good I just haven't gotten into it all that much a couple months before Naxx was released
edit: and I just have these times when I want to buy something and actually physically have it in my possession, which Magic cards are great for atm, not that I know anything really about it (Used to do Yu-Gi-Oh TCG like 10 years ago but never really did Magic)

On August 25 2014 22:42 Alaric wrote: ... what makes him unblockable? :| It's pseudo-unblockable in that it's benefits when blocked usually outweigh the downsides so in the majority of cases the defender will choose not to block him. The only time they will do so is if they are awful players or it's better for them to block, making it worse than real unblockable.
On August 25 2014 22:42 Alaric wrote: mean that instants that counter sorceries can be played to prevent a planeswalker from being played? No. "Can be cast any time you could cast a sorcery" does not mean it's a sorcery in any other respects. It just means you can cast them during your main phases with no other spells on the stack (oracle text avoids explicitly mentioning the stack so this is the best way to express this).
EDIT: As a related aside, when did the oracle text for "unblockable" get changed to "can't be blocked"?
Also, Alaric, you're misunderstanding a fair bit about Jace and planeswalkers. Only one PW ability can be used on each of your turns, so you can't use both abilities when you play Jace.
Milling is also very much not the same as discard. Particularly since MTG decks are 60 cards deep, milling for a kill tends to be a lot harder than in Hearthstone and generates very little advantage in the process,

Yeah, Jace is stupid for many other reasons aside from milling

Unblockable wasn't an evergreen keyword (http://mtgsalvation.gamepedia.com/Evergreen) but was trying to describe what it did. It sounded like an evergreen keyword though. So they changed that to "can't be blocked" because it's closer to what it actually does and doesn't sound like an evergreen keyword !

Milling is not particularly effective perhaps, but when you win like that it IS hilarious.

Yeah, I like it better because it's more in agreement with other similar abilities ("can't be blocked unless X") and gaining the ability ("gains unblockable"?). Was just curious when the change happened since I haven't played in a few years.

Oh right, I misread "can use an ability if it didn't use it this turn" as "can use an ability if it didn't use it this turn". I guess if you can get a kill combo off of 3-4 cards (and considering you start with 7, though it includes terrains) then milling isn't too much if an issue as it's not too likely to remove all your options. Also 4 per deck (my rogue variation gets super sad it if loses any of its shadowstep, and even a single cold blood changes a bunch) means losing a single copy to a mill isn't crippling.
If someone tries to mill you and you're in an advantageous position (on the board or wrt cards in hand) it doesn't change anything so he doesn't improve his position, and he doesn't particularly stall either (unless your next card, that just got milled, would have given you lethal), meaning milling doesn't do too much until your library starts getting really close to depleted. Plus all the cards that let you pick something from your graveyard.
The orc'd rather be let deal 7 because if you block him you lose creatures, he gets bigger so even harder to remove, and it's easier to leave him be then deal 2 damage to him on your next turn (I guess technically you could straight destroy/remove/kill him too, but it would cost more than a simple "deal 2 damage")?

I don't know when they did that exactly though, because I only started playing again 1 year ago.
In 1 year I went to 4 PTQs, 1 GP, at least 30 FNMs, and tons of small tournaments. Cardboard crack is real :o

I with MODO had a non-shit business model.

Or you can just play the game in person.
I guess living in Paris helps with that since we have 5 LGS that make 40+ players tournaments every week in every format.

In person, while better, does not offer the same flexibility.

It massively inflated the secondary market. Then they tried to do some reprints to lower the prices and bam, so many cards became MORE expensive.
