Ayesee pretty much just talks about what he sees on the screen. Everytime he venture into giving an opinion on the game he sounds like a complete moron. So if you got a good voice and can add excitement into a game then you set. You got the first at least to my knowledge? Ayesee is so much better now though. he mostly just asks his co caster to analyze shit for him, and then asks questions to have them explain it more if he thinks that he or the audience would like more of an explanation.

I learned a lot listening to Tobi when I first started being interested in Dota, much the same that Husky taught me a lot about SC. Think this is a bit of an unfair comparison for Tobi. Tobi may just be the best caster in esports currently for adding in hype and excitement into a game. He does/says some silly stuff but I haven't come across anyone else that can just bring that energy for such long stretches of time. The Tobi/Syn combo may be best in the business at least English wise. Husky was always more of a youtube guy where his live casting while passable never truly shone I feel.
It was meant as a compliment in my eyes. Husky was obviously flawed, but his youtube videos were always very hype and it got me and kept me interested in learning the game. Tobi was quite the same for me.
I never really listened to Husky live, so I don't have much of an opinion there.

Oh, was that Ayesee on the noob stream the first few days? Getting shit explained over and over (mostly Tidehunter and Mirana because they were picked all the time) was getting a bit annoying in the end but ingame they got way better at situationally explaining shit and why something was important, for example the first time a push aimed at "burning" buybacks occurred.

Ah k. Husky's youtube vids were great definitely. Think I remember him doing a colab with Day9 that I loved. It's actually rather interesting that I watched SC2 again for first time in years(WCS EU finals last weekend) and felt the casting just wasn't as good as I remember it or as good as is in Dota currently. Did I just miss the good casters or is it more nostalgia for me?

Not sure. I think the pairs were Purge/Ayesee and Shane/Pyrion/Blitz.

I personally don't think any casting in sc2 was particularly awesome apart from day9 and when pros casted at homestory cups. Even when I was the biggest sc2 fan I liked Tobi more than any caster in entirety of sc2. People liked tastosis back then which I never understood, I didn't like Tasteless casting at all. What other casters did you have back then? HDH, meh, Incontrol is good but not GREAT, Gretorp meh, Rotty+Mr. Bitter meh, Apollo was great though and more recently Kaelaris too. TB was meow. Anyone I am forgetting? Oh, Wolf was pretty good too imo. tl;dr it's mostly nostalgia

Oh, Wolf was pretty good too imo. tl;dr it's mostly nostalgia The artosis/apollo casts which happen every now and then (once for a dreamhack, once for a wcs final etc) are always really really good. They both know enough about the game (especially games with a toss in) that they can flawlessly pick up from each other's analysis, and highlight other interesting facets of what the other just said instead of saying something completely unrelated or some silly anecdote.
When the casters are able to fill dead space with in depth game discussions, rather then having the cast basically be random story time, with smatterings of hype and one sided analysis, things get a lot more interesting. Especially for games like sc2 where the "hype" bit tends to only be 5-10% of the actual game.

Artosis is was really good back when I watched sc2, Tasteless was really good during the BW era. DotA2 casters are really annoying 90% of time. Its seems like most DotA casters don't know anything about the game. At least DoA is funny in OGN casts while the play by play casters in DotA are so boring.

Impossible without the d6 first of all, and second of all is basically impossible even with it unless you're purposely trying to break the game ( which sometimes people do, it's crazy some of the stuff you can do). Even then it's not game breaking, if you pick up these rolling item ( it's called 'undefined') you just don't get and item and nothing happens.

Sometimes it was necessary for casters to be able to fill between-game times with funny stories MLG never forget

I like Tod + Rotti casts. Especially Tod knows more about the game than any other caster and I also like their random story time.
Also I think Apollo's gameknowledge is overrated. He is decent, but just not top-notch (or maybe I'm still hurt because I had a losing ladder record against him when I still played sc2).

At the end of the seasons usually somewhere mid-low masters with a massive unspent bonus pool. I usually played against mid and high-master players (faced Apollo and Bitter a couple of times) and very rarely at the start of a season against a grandmaster. Not particularly impressive.

like the commentators might as well be on the chinese team Many of them are/were. 820 is still LGD's coach, for example. That's also the difference though, as there's a lot higher game understanding within the Chinese commentary crew given the higher concentration of talent/experience. So while the Chinese commentators are more biased, they're also more likely to judge the GAME fairly because they actually know what the fuck is going on. Ah see I had no idea who exactly was casting, but they definitely were talking a lot more about what they thought players should be doing/building and rather accurately predicting team decisions. There were also like 3-4 female casters I think that was pretty cool

I find the stupid 'in between floors' crash much more frustrating because it happens fairly often. Even if it doesn't crash I hate the minute long wait for the shit to stop bugging out.

I watched all of NASL season 1, and season 2, thought gretorp was excellent. Mr.Bitter was pretty good, though I'm pretty sure I liked him mostly becaus of his voice. Monte and Doa was also a great casting combo when OGN was doing some SC2 coverage, weren't particularly knowledgeful when I last saw them cast SC2 (this was when they were doing mostly LoL casting), but the silliness DoA brought made it way more entertaining than any of the other casts that were on (this was when Gom was also doing coverage) Was initially a fan of day9, mostly because of his show, but never really a fan of his casting.
