Turns out currency is currency I guess.
Eh, I thought it sounded a bit more interesting than that. I mean, someone doesn't walk up and shoot you if you run out of money in your bank account.
The overall idea is interesting, but you could replace it with any other macguffin and the story would turn out the same. As a setting it's neat, but not as the driving point of a plot.
What about, time travel is invented in the year 2074, and, though immediately outlawed, is used by criminal organizations to send those they want killed into the past where they are killed by "loopers", assassins paid with silver bars strapped to their targets.

clearly you've never had an account with Bank of America

Though that movie definitely had some time-travel-related flaws, it was also awesome.

'In 2169, people are born genetically engineered with a digital clock, bearing 1 year of time, on their forearm. When they turn 25, they stop aging, but their clock begins counting down; when it reaches zero, that person "times out" and dies instantly. Time on these clocks is the universal currency; by touching arms, one person can transfer it to another, or to/from a separate clock (a "time capsule"). The country is divided into "time zones" based on the wealth of its population. There are at least 19 time zones, the movie focuses on 2: Dayton, which is poor, and New Greenwich, the wealthiest zone. In Dayton, residents are constantly living minute to minute, doing whatever is necessary to live another day, and in New Greenwich the inhabitants barely, if ever, have to worry about their clocks running out. Many are constantly surrounded by bodyguards to protect them from anyone thinking of stealing any time.'

So they were never found.
Still kinda dumb. If you have the ability to time travel, just kill them now and send the body back in time or something. Or just use hydrochloric acid, it's probably cheaper.
I enjoyed Looper, despite the paradox stupidity, but the premise doesn't make any sense if you think about it for like 3 seconds.

That's your guys' problem - don't think about action movies, you'll enjoy them much more.

Looper also contains the scariest fucking scene I've ever seen in a movie.
Speaking of dumb action movies, I watched the first half hour of Last Action Hero and I was actually really impressed. It's a parody of Ahnold movies, starring Ahnold as Ahnold and also as Jack Slater, the action hero of a movie-in-the-movie. I don't know if the rest of the movie holds up, but I just can't say no to scenes like this:
Problem with the time currency thing would most likely be the execution. This sounds more like a framing device for a regular thriller, when it could be made really interesting by exploring day to day living in all cities. I would love to see how trade across cities/countries works.

Stupid action movies are a wonderful thing, but you're still allowed to recognize when the plot is stupid.

oh, of course
but if you recognize a plot is dumb, watch it, and then complain it was dumb, then you have no right to complain
