Yeh its funny becasue today's Maru is the opposite of Maru today. Today Maru is very good at technical compositions - which does him well in TvT. But if you go technical vs techincal, Zerg wins vs terran. In his early days he was the least-non technical player and more focused on going pure bio and outpacing opponents. Although players in general were so much worse - so playing fast paced with a spellcaster was not feasible given the skill level back then. If you just had a single spellcaster in your comp you had to play a very slow deathbally game. The problem is all of Maru technical tool got nerfed during recent years, Ghost nerfed, Mines nerfed, Libs range nerfed. So he cant just play the same way he used to 2-3 years ago. And its not like he cant play like Clem or Oliveira, but its more like whether he wants to and willing to practice for it.
I mean i am Not Sure If He can still Play Like clem or Oli for a series If all we heard about him having injuries is true. Same reason as to why dark is playing so much roach zvt even tho He was an og ling bane (corruptor) master.

Definitely, Maru's problem is that their strengths are very similar but Serral has the edge overall. Serral vs. Clem's matchup is much more asymmetrical and if Clem manages to keep the game in a state where he's favored, it looks like what we saw yesterday
I wonder if Maru just suffers from not having someone who plays like Serral, even close to his level to workshop some stuff between tournaments.
I mean he must know his current style doesn’t match up that well to Serral’s strengths, but he returns next tourney trying the same thing that didn’t work before

Fair, I don't think Maru can do what Clem can. But he can run reapers and hellions into serral's base while banshees fly in the back. He can do some marine drops. I mean... Clem shouldn't have gotten those ridiculous drone bbq shots, but 5 or 6 drones should be consistently doable. And just making Serral actually pay attention to defending on his side of the map instead of letting him get a 2-minute hive 
E: also, creep spread. The pressure, as well as continuous scouting on the edge of creep kept creep really far back.

But I also think the reason these opportunities can exist for Clem is that he plays fast. When you constantly challenge your opponent and look for opportunities, they are more likely to falter.

There's probably some truth to that. Dark and Serral are like night and day.
At this point you've got to wonder if there isn't a mental aspect to it as well
Finally, we're getting a proper Maru game. I was scared when Serral started mining from 8 o'clock but he's slowly losing control, it seems

Why is Serral at 5k/3k but not getting +3 melee/ranged attack? He started it now. Just very weirdly late. He could've been fully upgraded for a while now. As well as starting on Ultras or Broods for a tech switch, which is also weirdly absent.

Agreed. This is very very very wasteful by Serral. He got overconfident and sloppy.
