Byun's issue is that he's only ever played the game one way and he just can't do it anymore. He's getting older and slower. It happens to every great athlete. He COULD change up the way he plays but after 10 years of playing the same way that's an incredibly challenging thing to ask someone to do, especially since against 99% of the players in Starcraft 2 Byun can still win reliably against playing the way he does.
Maru's block with weekenders is a lot harder to explain. It's all in his head, in his choices that he makes going into series. I don't know what is influencing why he does the things he does in these tournaments to donate series away when he should win. I think it's only getting worse the more often he does it, like he psychs himself out of actually finishing tournaments that he's done all of the work to win he just has to close it out. He doesn't have these mental blocks at GSL, but for some reason whenever he travels somewhere else there they are.
I don't know what he has to do to figure that out, but at least from where I'm sitting, it doesn't seem like the same kind of situation that Byun's in.
Having to play TvZ with ping is always gonna be a hassle anyways, poor ByuN. I really hope that Classic will beat Cure but Cure is just incredibly good at TvP since forever, it’s gonna be difficult

Maru should have not lost to Clem, but here we are. Couple with how herO and Dark playing, those KR players are pissing me off. Its one thing losing because you did everything great and your opponent was just better, its entirely another thing that you do something making no sense.

Byun has showed that he can change into a more turtling style before, a couple times against Solar and Dark, but thats still like 10% of his games. The same way with Maru, his current opening in TvT is so repeatedly that his opponent doesnt even need to scout and simply blind counter it. I wouldnt mind if he had mix in his Banshee Mech opening, or trying to for 2-1-1 approach to get something done, but he 99% of the time throw down his 3rd CC and double Ebay without even scouting his opponent 3rd CC timing. And then he randomly sending 2 Medivac or 2 Ravens out to try doing some damage without a single Helion/reaper to scout a head for trap. They both have the same problem, but Byun problem has been around longer imo, Maru having that problem right before IEM and still last till now.
Wow, the arrogance of the community strikes again. XD so many psychologists here that exactly know where the issues of the players are, of course only of the losing players they got disappointed by. Maybe some of the folks here should calm down a bit and realize that we are all humans, the players, too. And humans have good days and bad days, make good decisions and bad decisions. So disrespectful to the winners

Both things can be true, like how Oliveira deserve to be world champ, and Maru choked like F in the Final. I never say Clem did not deserve to win, in fact I hope that he will get great success and win this tournament. That doesnt mean we skip over what happened, especially its becoming a repeatable thing. I dont know whats inside Maru head when he did those move, but we already saw what happened BECAUSE of what he did, and not just once or twice but many times already. So what are you supposed us to do with that? Just accept that players choke on a regular basis and move on?

Indeed. As I like to say, every great comeback had its throw on the other side. It's very much the same here, great performance by Clem but you can't honestly say that Maru played at his best.

You don't understand, these players don't care enough to change their predictible playstyle that everyone knows about but them. No way they play this style because this is what they are the most successful with. If only they practiced hundreds of games they could realise it's not how they are supposed to do it! But no they don't care enough, it's only 150K to win, they are playing for fun.
I know Serral lost that game, but I love what he did putting that extra hatch up front. It was a nice little move that was causing that defense to be more cost effective than it probably should have been.

Except they dont, at least not in the current meta and situation. Thats like saying Byun won a world title with 3 rack reaper micro so he should do that for the rest of his career. For a strategy game like SC2, build order and adjustment MATTERS. And like I said, I dont know if they care about winning this tournament enough, I do know they dont have the right preparation for it.
