I like how you now permanently have under expectations for Maru, did the 2 years before really killed your hope for him?
Forte did a whole lot of nothing with his tech and eco advantage bringing things right back to even, but he did start to play better once Maru had caught up to him at least. Maybe the shock of being ahead against Maru was too much and he feels much better being even.
edit: And seriously is there any map that Artosis and Tasteless won't call "a big map"?

Heh, had to check, Dreamcatcher is actually one of the smallest maps in the pool. It does "feel" big though. I wonder if that's just the lack of high/low ground variance outside of main+natural

It's square so the minimap looks larger . But yes it is the smallest map in the pool and by a significant margin.

ohhh that too!
I'd really love a command center count. Pretty sure Maru has 5 or 6 more, probably a huge deal
All in all, Forte should have won that last one right? Maru did hit him at the optimal moment though; the banshee was hunting the mining base and Forte didn't stack enough defensive units.
If Maru didn't have those two cyclones there, he wouldn't have been able to to force the GG.

Execution > Theory tho
Not sure. Everything hinges on fast the banshee comes out, so I think in theory the double reapers can delay it, or you can switch into marines earlier, and try to defend with them once you have enough on the other side of the map. Lots of options.
Once all the bases had to lift off this game Forte should've been able to win it though.
Every time I see Dear he looks terrible, which makes his results when I'm not watching (like getting through the Olimoleague Summer qualifiers yesterday) inexplicably good.

Okay this prediction seems quite likely now. What's the current flavor of the week TvZ cheese?
Two rax or three rax marines with all the pros meme-ing about it on Twitter. Though it did take a hit from losing basically every single time it showed up at Homestory Cup.
I feel like folding on beating Maru (maybe just do some speculative all-ins) and focusing on taking 2nd place is the best strat here. It really feels like ppl going up against 2010 Flash.

Maru's aura of invincibility is also helped by the fact that he plays very few tournament games.
On July 07 2018 14:09 Waxangel wrote: Good god how did Dear beat soO and Rogue a month ago
Also he beat soO 3-0 yesterday.
How?
I just took a glance at them and they seem like normal longer games--a win with an archon push, and two games eventually going into skytoss, but doing normal stuff along the way like holding roach attacks, doing archon harass and fighting lurkers. Like wtf he actually looks competent.
And the day before he lost against Dark in the KungFu Cup, but apparently game 1 was a good macro game, so idk what's wrong today.

The most impressive thing about Maru is that his double proxy rax in the first game completely did nothing, and then he was behind in every way, and Tastosis were still treating Maru losing a weird hypothetical...and were right to do so
On July 07 2018 15:06 SetGuitarsToKill wrote: Wew, I'm so used to seeing those kinds of games go bad for Zerg but Leenock played that out shockingly well
It's really because of patience. A lot of Zergs don't make static d and smash their heads into a entrenched T position. You have to be very careful and slowly bleed out the T while using up your bank.
Hell, if Leenock had even just realized where those tanks were right away he could have ran some roaches up the ramp maybe even. Tha'ts how close he was to winning that game and I am legit shook that he fucked it up
Leenock did indeed play very well, but Maru was definitely making some mistakes too. Last season he really ramped it up for the playoffs, and he'll need to do the same this season if he wants to keep winning. Otherwise I could easily see him going out in the Ro8-ish
Both Forte and Leenock did not look all that bad against Maru, and it was their mistakes as much as Maru's skill that let him advance today.
God Leenock's mutas were so sick and even one of those would have worked. There was so many ways he could have won this and only one wya to lose it during that push and he did it

It's Artosis, everyone is a god
I just want to see a game between ByuN and Rogue. The best micro player of all time of all RTS games vs the best lategame player of all time of all RTS games.

I have a feeling the hype train derails VERY soon.
It was quite considerate of Forte to proxy Dear tbh, since like that Dear doesn't get the time to self-destruct, and is put straight into a scrappy game.

I wonder if they could find the viewers + players to add one more round to the GSL. Ro48->Ro24->Ro16 (adding in last season's semifinalists).
There's a solid 16 players that never drop out of Code S, another 8 who might miss qualifying for a season here and there, and then the last 8 spots seem to be constantly changing.
16 extra players would seriously dilute game quality in the starting rounds and hurt viewership.

And who would fill those extra spots?
Well, I did say "+ players". That's part of what I wonder about. Maybe we'd see new faces who basically get a walk into Ro48. I guess my thinking was: since we're treating the Ro16 as the real GSL nowadays anyway, why not fold the Code A experience into the lower rounds of Code S?
That was a weird build by Forte, I don't know what he wanted to do considering TvP early game doesnt allows for weird builds for terran, only marauders and cyclones

Naw, he was a godly Zerg in late 2011 and the second half of 2012. Aside from that he maybe had a few small flickers of greatness in 2015. It's been a very long time
Hope he comes back for that title he never got. Twice he's been in the clear for the win and tripped. Only been to the ro8 in GSL like...3 times I think. He needs this
i am not following the game closely as before but what is wrong with collossi? i think they would've done a much better job against the composition of leenock, especially since dear had 6-7 immortals and they did almost nothing

2nd place once against jjakji and 2 back to back Ro8's. Nothing better than Ro16 since 2012.

They're just not very good in PvZ since they need a ton of support to not just get instantly jumped on and killed. You need sentries to protect them and allow colossi to do their steady splash damage which takes a lot of gas and makes transitioning more difficult. To spend your minerals you need to make stalkers which aren't great against ling/bane/hydra. Chargelots don't work in this comp. as mineral sink since they're a strong unit at engaging, but not so good when you're playing keep-away with forcefields and colossi.

True enough but that is not what I did. I took a shot that Leenock could beat Dear since they are on similar levels, but what I did NOT expect was him taking a convincing game off of Maru. That was straight beautiful.

Just watched the VODs. Really happy for Leenock. His games against Maru kind of remembered me of DRG solving Innovations parade push style in GSL-WCS seaon 3 in 2013. I hope he can keep it up and makes a deep run in the playoffs

Very accurate comparison, hopefully Leenock does more with this resurgence than DRG did though, it's a shame this kid has never won a GSL despite being so good for so long.

The only way to win a GSL as a zerg was to win it during WOL.

Great day of gsl and great play by Leenock, but am I the only one who got slighty annoyed by how much Artosis hyped him up? Calling him a God and "one of the best players in the world right now" based off 1 series? He was just melting for Leenock during that game he won against Maru, and while Leenock obviously played very well, Artosis seemed to forget Maru was playing from waaaaay back after his failed 2 base timing.
