Having some proximity limit could maybe help vs zergs who are having creep covering half of the map by 8 minute mark. And if terran tries fighting the creep, 2-3 queens just shows up and replant the tumors close to the edge so creep isn't really fought back. Just random thought. Serral is of course on whole another level. That sounds like the least elegant possible way to nerf creep spread. If it really is a problem (which I don't think it is), just make it spread slower and/or recede faster.

He's played 10 offline sets (counting both Bo1s vs soO as one combined set) so far this year, and will most likely finish somewhere in the high teens, including sets against both Classic and Maru when they were pretty much undisputed best in the world. Stephano in 2011 played 15 sets, 4 of those being Bo1, and only played 'good' koreans in Bo3/Bo5. He played a ton more in 2012 but if you trim the weaker Koreans from that pool it looks pretty slim too.

I think in the start he had too many units still at the back, and towards the end he lost too many to banelings. If he was more aggressive and had good splits + tank targeting he wins that.

in terms of choosing the correct unit composition, placement, general strategy and decisionmaking - neeb when he plays at his prime looks to me the best I have seen from a foreigner. in terms of overall play - as in mechanics, consistency, not making mistakes, large scale control, etc - serral is undoubtedly the best foreigner I have seen and looks better than any korean I watch right now. and it's not just because we are seeing him against other foreigners. I am not saying he *is* better than dark or rogue, but his macro, movement, reactions.. it's typically hard to find any mistake. he's basically like stephano in his prime, which is already an amazing feat, but he's much crisper than that. stephano had a little sloppiness, serral almost never does.

If you trim the weaker Koreans, Serral played Rogue, Impact, Zest, Trap, Classic twice and Maru (and soO). You can try to argue against Zest/Impact but they're still Code S tier. When I say trimming weaker Koreans from Stephano's results I mean guys like ReaL, JYP, Heart, GanZi, Rain, Daisy, KeeN, Revival, TheStC, CranK. These guys were fringe Code S at best in 2012, and Stephano played 18 sets vs them that year. That's a third of his sets vs Koreans.

Am I seeing this right? not surprising, foreign scene is pretty much a joke. Last year Neeb, this year Serral - the skill level is so low that the few good players just dominate everything. What other good foreigners even existed in 2012 when Stephano put up his GOAT case? LucifroN? VortiX? BabyKnight? You can't act as those guys are on another level compared to the likes of uThermal, Elazer, SpeCial, Snute, TRUE, Scarlett. Yea but at least there were some Koreans in the tournaments back then to show some competitive matches Yeah and the Koreans were asscheeks. Put Serral up against Leenock, LosirA, KeeN, aLive, DoKyung, Cure and ByuL and he'd still look damn good.

I disagree with you calling the foreign scene a joke, yes Serral is dominant so far and is favourite to win but the skill level in the foreign scene is closer to Korea than it has ever been and the overall skill level is higher than its ever been. Foreigners can't take a map off Serral because he is as good as top Korean zergs.

No, but the entire post reeks of your annoying, abrasive "fuck wcs" attitude like you had nothing better to do in your spare time than ragging on something nobody who reads your posts can change as if the god almighty was going to smite Blizzard down and paint words "CHAROSAIR WAS RIGHT, REGION LOCK KILLED SC2" on the sky no idea what this wall of text is supposed to mean. Region-lock obv didn't kill sc2 but I don't think the WCS events with Serral (and Neeb last year) just winning everything are turning out as Blizzard expected. It just bores me that nobody can challenge the good players.

I've always valued decent runs in harsh times to be equal or better to great runs in good times. Beating the current GSL and SSL champions back to back in 2015 is damn impressive. Probably more so than winning a tournament against obviously inferior opponents.

I am not saying he *is* better than dark or rogue, but his macro, movement, reactions.. it's typically hard to find any mistake. he's basically like stephano in his prime, which is already an amazing feat, but he's much crisper than that. stephano had a little sloppiness, serral almost never does. Yep, Stephano game sense and overall intelligence in his play was really his strenght and the reason why he was so dominant but Serral emulates this with an almost perfect macro + he is more versatile in term of strat with very ahressive timing and push. However, I would argue that steph was a little bit more creative meta wise.

I am not saying he *is* better than dark or rogue, but his macro, movement, reactions.. it's typically hard to find any mistake. he's basically like stephano in his prime, which is already an amazing feat, but he's much crisper than that. stephano had a little sloppiness, serral almost never does. That's because when you're playing people substantially worse than you, anything you do will look perfect. If you watch TY/Maru/Dark stomp through foreigners at WeSG, they're probably playing worse mechanically than when they face eachother in the finals, but their play looked perfect because they were outdoing their opponents in every aspect. Even Serral's WeSG run was the same, he looked just as sharp as he does now, but once he faced real opponents his skill was tested and he looked sloppier. Even though in reality I'd bet he was trying much harder when facing Maru/Classic than any of the foreigners.

The definition likely varies person to person. Some progamers probably value money as a key measurement of success, others value the glory and prestige. At one point sOs said he thoughtd MC is the best of all time because he was the #1 earner for example.

Lings woul'dve cleared the roaches easily. And no, making 2 spines at your base 5 minutes into the game doesn't save money.

Every time the roaches were at lambos 3rd he had no units there to defend and the mutas were on the map. That's why they killed so many drones each time. Sure seeing it helps, but not as much as just putting spines down.

You don't need to make 2 spines to stop 3 roaches when you could have an overlord in position so your lings are there when you need them.

Yeah, he gotta be thinking, it's so damned hard to siege these libs since I cannot move my bios underneath them to eat disruptor shots. Liberator range should be an obvious upgrade to get at that point. But it looked like the idea never occurred to him.

Then he beats Snute for his second team kill, and takes out Special (who honestly seemed surprised he was facing Mana because he didn't do his normal prepared builds. I feel like he might have had nothing ready) That final could have been a 4-2 or a 4-3 for Mana as well. A few key mistakes cost him, but he never looked like he was outclassed. I don't know what happened during this event, but I hope he can keep his form up for the next month or two with how many events are coming up. Also, fun fact: I asked him after the finals if he ever considered cannon rushing Serral. Unfortunately, he said no because Serral has a great response to it ![]()
