It's a lot about how wins look. It could be perfectly balanced but people perceive the gameplay in a certain way.
Protoss always had that problem more than anything imo. Like almost nobody would actually have said that mass forcefields vs zerg in hots was pleasing to look at, even if it was balanced technically. Aesthetics matter a lot. (that's almost never discussed though)

Its not even ascetics for me. I think its just frustrating being unable to do anything in response to your opponent. Its why I'll always hate fungal growth, forcefields and concussive shell.
