I'm actually super happy we'll be getting (most likely) more online tournaments this year. Healthy balance. Good idea using the Shoutcraft brand to promote them.

Money mostly I think. He had so few minerals, he could barely make new units after making those 20 hydras to counter the muta switch. Keep in mind the supplies were only even at the end because soO had 20 extra drones over Solar.

Solar is killing it here. Here's a good KR P to try to snipe him, if Classic can't dethrone the King I might have to hope for a uThermal or Kela foreigner 3rax

I mean, ZvP has always been Solar's best match-up and it's still his best on ladder right now.

solar was still way ahead on upgrades until after 2/2 and had a massive economy before all of that damage got done, so Solar was far ahead in the first half of the game

We didn't watch the same game then :o. He was able to cement good positions with his drops (at the front), that allowed him to comfortably control the middle of the map in order to set up bases / ghost tech while controlling Solar expands with some more drops. Solar managed to bypass TY's defenses quite well with his runbyes in order to prepare BL tech but the map is so big that not getting the productions would probably mean death, and this was forced by TY controlling the middle with his initial multi pronged agressions.

Honestly PvZ has been pretty stale when it comes to openings for a long time. People figure out like 1 or 2 builds and those are the ones they do over and over. From "French" PvZ to double stargate phoenix into chargelot/archon vs lurkers to some sort of adept pressure to the DT/Archon drop

True, but I'd argue that those 1 or 2 builds have typically changed more often than in other match-ups. It was double stargate for a few weeks, ling drops for a few weeks, and this is the first build to have stuck this long.
The chargelot follow up is interesting though I'm not convinced it's actually that good.

I mean there's already the inherent reward that playing well will help your chances of getting re-invited by TB. Rewarding players based on viewers votes never seems to work well in practice.

edit: actualyl 1250, still decent
soO got nothing, which is heartbreaking. At least TY got $250. But I'm pretty sure TB will do the right thing and invite them again
Thems the breaks. That's how the tournament works. Of course though, they'll be more than welcome back.
We did consider bounties or things like player-tip jars. There's a lot of tricky problems involved in that. Bounties mean the budget becomes unpredictable every month. I'm not really keen on community voting using Blizzards money. Tip-jars for players is doable but the problem is we have 21 players per event. If we collect the money ourselves then distribute we open ourselves up to massive tax liability as they would all become independent contractors and we'd have to file $500 of forms for each of them just to pay them.
Perhaps a tip-jar system in 2017 might work though. I'll look into feasibility
