Spoilers alert:

The narrative isn't really about foreigners bopping Koreans or the other way though.
It was mostly:
ByuN vs viOLet: outclassed plus viOLet had gear problems the same day and performed worse because of it. Ain't pretty, not really worth watching.
ShoWTimE - Dear: Dear looked tired (I mean on his face, but alas it showed in his play as well), g2 was decent but the match is one sided as well and not that interesting.
Dear - viOLet: didn't see but Dear was a favorite before today and almost got eliminated against one of the perceived weakest players so it was probably nail-biting if you wanted Dear to win.

Nerchio - TY: kinda good series with high level of play from both sides, g2 and g3 I would recommend, we have mech kinda late game and bio late/ultra late.

Elazer - Solar: didn't see sorry.

Nerchio - Solar: nail biting because it's a shame one of them had to be eliminated. When trying to be in their shoes the G3 became really tense so I would recommend if you keep in mind they had to win this and Solar SSL win as well as Nerchio results wouldn't save them from being eliminated abruptly.

In all honesty I see it as korean vs foreigner thing because it's hyped up to be and we've been waiting all year to see it. That and I've basically see this tournament as a 5 way cup between Stats TY Dark Byun and Zest from the start, I don't believe any of the other players can make ro4 so it's just a contest to see who wins between them.

Oh and Elazer vs Solar was quite one sided, Nerchio vs Solar was the only nail biter of the night (or at least it was the only series that wasn't clearly favouring one player from the start). Well Dear vs Violet kinda looked shakey in game one but was a steamroll in g2/3
Zest, sOs, PartinG, Dark, and Maru are the real champs. ROOT_herO is overrated. Snute, Serral, and Scarlett are the foreigner GOATs

Both Elazer-Solar and Nerchio-Solar weren't close TBH, even if Elazer looked better. Out of these 6 games Elazer-Solar g1 was funny. I don't remember seeing queens vs queens micro in ZvZ before.

I dunno this group was kinda sad to watch because one of Solar-Nerchio-TY was certain to be eliminated even though every one of them had the potential to be top 4.
Funnily I think you say Stats now but if he had been 2-0ed by Snute and Solar qualified today you would have mixed them up to make it look like it was obvious .

Stats Dark TY Zest and Byun are the 5 I've had from the start man (well Zest was depending on the form he brings). I know the finals will be 2 of those, probabaly the ro4 will be as well depending on seeding.
I'd have been much more shocked if Stats had lost to Snute (unless they played apotheosis 2x in a row hehe). Solar and patience were always a maybe. Even with an SSL win I thought Dark deserved that season 2 so much more.

Nerchio - Solar was close as hell. g3 I didn't know who would win until near the end, it just came down to engagement. My definition of a close series is one you don't know who's gonna win till the end

I don't know if Zest can be called an expected winner. His form and the stats are not with him for PvP. Also, given the surprise of Elazer and Solar, I don't know if the expected winners will win.

For me it kinda looked like Nerchio had it for the last 3/4th of the g3. Nerchio had much higher income the whole time, and took OK trades, denied gold base, had better upgrades and bank, and a spire ready just in case. He just played it safe and did some micro mistakes (eating lots of biles) so it took long.

Maybe I'm biased.

Nah Solar was taking good trades and just got his gold base up and was about to have a bigger economy by far. He could have won if he didn't mess up his army control so badly.

Solar lost like 30 burrowed roaches in few harras attempts that did nothing. Nerchio meanwhile kept his advantage and traded with main army, waiting for good position to kill Solar. It was inevitable (kinda like g3 of TY vs Nerchio but the other way).

I disagree, while Nerchio held an advantage it was still possible to lose if Solar just had his army together properly.

Nerchio vs TY was bascially unwinnable for Nerchio for most of it

Solar vs nerchio was even or even in solar's favor until he suicided his burrowed roaches that did nothing.
After that Nerchio had the clear advantage and kept it until the end.
I didn't feel like Nerchio could lose at any point after that. He always had a way bigger bank.

In my opinion Nerchio eating biles in g3 with Solar werent caused by micro management mistakes.. it seemed to me that nerchio wanted to get some few supplies for those mutas.. that would be pretty effective against heavy roach and lurkers army.. some hydra at the back of Solars army wouldnt help much as nerchio still had pretty decent roach number. He was just undecicive at that point.

Nerchio vs TY g1 was soooo depressing to watch. however from g2 and g3 i regained my trust that Nerchio can stand up against anyone and put up good fight.

Nerchio was ahead in game 3 from the beginning, and he just capitalized on each minor lead he took. He could launch a big ling bane push for which Solar starting his preparations for, but Nerchio just made enough lings to open the paths to Solars base while getting better eco, kept Solar on his own territory this way, and secured more bases and upgrades (he had an upgrade lead at the end of those RR battles). When you are ahead this is the more safe way to win. He sniped the 3rd of Solar, even if the engagement was better for solar, and retreated when the hatch was down. Meaning way less gas and larva for solar. Then he also knew where Solar's army is, so he remaxed and came from an angle where he could take a better engagement.

When you are ahead you can take eat some bad biles as long as you keep your opponent behind. When you are behind you must avoid any way getting even more behind, including eating biles and so on.

Solar's way to come back was doing something unexpected, which he did with the tunneling claws, but Nerchio knew this is one of the 2 ways Solar could make a come back and was quite ready for it.

I guess the spire and the tunneling claws of Nerchio were in case Solar is closing the gap, so that Nerchio could send counters, but when the 3rd of Solar was down he didn't need to, as it was about not getting solar enough room on the high ground with his exposed gold, Nerchio knew that this is the only way Solar could somehow come back to this game, so it was the next one to deal with. And eventually Nerchio won the macro game.

Solar played 6 ZvZs and apart for the game on Dasan Station, he played them all quite similarly. Didn't mixed that much, and was punished for it. May be he practiced ZvT as he was predicted to play TY today, but if so he underestimated the other two zergs in his group for what he was punished hard.

Some great games this time, way better than day 1! Too bad I could not watch live, but today I'm free .

Btw Charoisaur, since at least 1 foreigner will be in the ro8 now, please change your sig into "The gap is closed, foreigners will save SC2. Nerchio is the best zerg in the world!"
Gotta love sigbets!
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.
