Hey everyone!
Incredibly excited to announce the Rival Weekly, looking to bring some weekly region locked action to support the NA/EU scene. This is something that we have been planning for quite some time now and looking forward to getting started.
The Format
A single elimination bracket with bo3 series, concluding with a best of 5 finals, played on Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void, with the current map pool.
Eligibility
For those who are unfamiliar with the RSL, we will be keeping the same eligibility requirements to stay consistent with the main tournament
1. You must be eligible to participate in the unified WCS system.
This means that we will be region locking to exclude Korean participation to focus on the NA/EU regions. This also means we will be enforcing a strict no barcode policy. However for the first few weeks we will have registration open to participants of any ladder league.
2. Going forward, RSL will be complying with The Organizer's Alliance (TOA), and we will be respecting their ban list.
3. You must also not have been in WCS premiere league for the previous season of SC2, in this case we will be using WCS 2015 Season 3.
Prize Pool
We will be starting with a 25$ prize pool, and looking to increase that going forward. We will also be introducing "RSL points", which will help you to secure a spot in the next main tournament for the RSL. Going forward we will award a direct seed to the top 4 earners of RSL points, allowing them to skip the qualifiers altogether. The prize distribution is currently
1st place: $20 and 500 RSL points 2nd place: $5 and 300 RSL points 3rd/4th place: 200 RSL points 5th-8th place: 100 RSL points.
We would also love to help showcase some community casters for our event as well! If you would be interested in casting our event please feel free to reach out either via twitter, or this thread!

Just to confirm, can SEA players participate, given most folks in our region ladder on the AM server? Or is this specifically for AM and EU residents?
|
Yes SEA is totally cool. The only region that is excluded by the region lock is Korea.
|
Wonderful! I've added it to the events calendar at SC2SEA.com so folks can check it out.

Does this means later on only players from a certain ladder league onwards can play?

Love that you guys are doing a points system to go towards your tournaments. Looking forward to see which players top the points list for this.

We're setting our eligibility requirements to match with the main tournament, so we're basically excluding Korean participation and Professionals who have competed in the most recent season of the WCS 2015. If you're question is asking about ladder rank (GM, Master, Diamond, etc) then yes, we'll be open for the first few weeks. However, the intent for the league and the weeklies will be GM, Master, and to an extent Diamond level players who can keep up, so we feel any players of leagues below those would not have an ideal time.

Where games will be played? EU/NA server?

NA Server will be default. Players are free to play on any server as long as both players agree to it. If there's no agreement reached, it'll default to NA.
