That's not optimal though. You shouldn't ever be on 100 probes.

One of the biggest advantages air mech has over zerg terran is the ability to expand faster while controlling the map with pheonix hellion. In the first game vs kanin/hanfy, I should have sacced probes. However, in the second game, I never actually got to max supply. I was pumping phnx void off of 8 stargates, which requires a powerful economy. If we continually force engagements, which can be done with air, then the probe lead is only an advantage. In 1v1, it makes sense to cut probes in pvp around 60 for example, because of defenders advantage. However, the 2v2 maps are so big, and air is so mobile, that forcing fights while the supplies are below 160 is easily done. Additionally, if I transition into carrier, I need the mineral bank for interceptors, as rebuilding interceptors for 12 carriers three times over chews through my bank very fast.

The standard protoss deathball gains value significantly as it approaches max, but mass pheonix gains very little value once you reach 30 pheonix. Because of this, when Im going pheonix I am actively trying to force fights wherever I can. While 100 probes is quite a lot, I would not rule it out as a viable option.

Now we're hearing high-level 2v2 strategy from a tournament finalist. That seals it - this tournament had everything. Pleasure to have watched you play, Larry, and congratulations on your excellent results.

What he said! I loved watching this and I can't wait for more craziness like this to happen in the future!

I missed the final and bronze match though, it got too late for me. Need better casting times for us poor tired Europeans.
