Maybe next year Dreamhack won't use such terrible formats, we can only hope. Unless people really want yet another year of RO4 BO3 single elimination nonsense. Football, totally relevant to SC2. You do want to determine that someone is better at something than someone else. The quality of a format is measured by the quality of the determination, not by what the people are doing. In an ideal world, we have a 9-round swiss system / 19-player-RR with all the players, but that will not happen due to the amout of games played.

Still impressed seeing as imo he was a bit behind after the early game.

Last year most of the matches in lower and upper bracket were bo3, but since less players advance to bracket this year they're having longer series.

They're both perfectly valid and yet are capable of throwing up unfair situations fairly frequently. For example, how many times have we seen someone go out of a GSL-style group with a "winning" map-score vs. the person they lose to in the deciding match..? + Show Spoiler [By which I mean...] + Player A 2-0 Player B <- First Match Player A Loses Winner's Match Player B Wins Loser's Match Player A 1-2 Player B <- Deciding Match 3-2 to Player A in total, but Player B goes through! If in football a round-robin format that uses goal-difference and goals scored (equivalent to map-score) before looking at games between the tied teams is good enough for the World Cup, then it's good enough for DreamHack. Map score is so fucking irrelevant though. The GSL format is fair because it's a bracket. Lose 2 series and you're out, it's that simple. To get out of the group you still have to be the better player, you still gotta beat 2 opponents. In this format, you can get kicked out of the group through results that you have no chance to influence. You can beat the top 2 players, as Impact did and then lose anyway because of mapscore in other series. The format is terrible. Nobody uses it anymore in SC2 and for a good reason. Even Dreamhack doesn't use it most of the time, they moved away from those group formats to GSL style 3-stage groups because it avoided situations like this, but for some reason we're using it in a grand final. So you can forgive me if I'm a little salty. I might as well have set $1300 on fire.
