State 3-2 HyuN - HyuN advances! I don't like this format when there's w.o.
On the 6th day JF made Reavers and on the 7th day JF put his opponent to rest

Lol, Hyun advances with negative 2-3 score from that day. Usually at least in such case one has beaten the other loser in the loser's match, but here even this was just forfeit so it doesn't count.

That's one way of wording what happened lol. Or you can say that State lost 2 bo3's and had a negative map score and HyuN only lost one, which is the case...If HyuN lost his two bo3's he would've been out. Why does map score matter? Amusingly you are pretty much saying that we should go by extended series format again..but oh wait, back when fan favorites lost in that format it was considered the worst thing to ever befall esports.

On state, he really lacked the killer instinct. Instead of either teching into an invincible army later (with air and colossi) or staying on 3 bases and going for a killing move with a very strong 200 supply, he did a bit of pressure and a bit of teching, but just ended up in some weird middle position where he lacked the courage to take a deciding engagement while he had the advantage.

lol so many angry foreigners in this thread taking map score but ignoring series win/loss. Probably first time seeing the result of a player dropping out of a 4-player group. Watched so many Starcraft all these years and still don't understand the rule and surprised by this. haha.

I think the main issue for the "foreigners" in this case is that one of the series "wins" for Hyun was a W.O. where he did not actually have to do anything (actually just time for him to study State's reps) whereas State was required to play an actual human opponent in all of the three series he played back to back today.
Now witness their attempts to fly from tree to tree. Notice they do not so much fly as plummet.

well bring that up with WCS AM and Violet consistently having to forfeit his spot.

it's impossible to advance from one of these groups when all 4 players are there without getting an at least 50:50 overall map score. with 3 players it's obviously different. I've always never liked these walk-overs in 3-man groups. would be ideal if they had a couple wildcard games or something of that ilk to fill in these spots.

Why don't they use reserves for those kind of situations? Like, BB. He was top4 in 3 qualies.

lol no one brings this up when this happened twice in the bracket already group c and d. only matters to them if its their favorite player/nationality.

Blame the player that forfeited or the organization for not finding a solution. Don't blame the format (some people have) or the players who played for taking advantage of the WO.

I agree, they should have a 'points' system for the players that don't qualify but do get far. Then if replacements are needed, they can just pick the player at the top.
