Best of 1 in all rounds until the Round of 64 players is reached. At round of 64 and higher is a Best of 3. Once Round of 8 is reached the matches end, and the 8 players then move to Stage 2.

In a Best of 1, Best of 3 and Best of 5 a map veto (removal and pick) system is used. The high seeded player(seeds can be found at round 1 on the grid page) decides who starts. Players take it in turn removing maps until only one remains in a best of 1 or until only 3 maps remain in a best of 3. Then each player picks a map. Maps are played in order they are picked. The remaining map is played last.

IEM online qualifiers should become really interesting this season now that travel accomodations are fully paid. Except for visa issues there is no excuse for (semi-)pro players not to participate, especially for the more unknown players.

Not a big fan of the schedule, would rather have it on a week end than 8PM at night. Even tho it's the summer and waking up early for school is not a factor anymore playing late at night is a bit annoying.

I kinda feel like thats bs that they can enter. I mean sure they're in the US THIS WEEKEND. Polt is a completely different story, or Stardust in EU, they should be allowed to compete in the region they are residing. But residing shouldn't be equal to "I'm here for a week(end)"

Now if for some reason they're both staying in America for an extended period of time then by all means disregard everything I've said

It's been 3 years that every american qualifier for ESL is at 8pm EST. I just lost in the losers bracket at midnight EST. I had 4 more rounds to go to qualify for the 2nd stage which means I probably would have finished playing at 1-2am EST.

Do I have to gather signatures from every player to make those qualifiers be on a week end during the afternoon?

It kills me inside knowing I have to adapt my sleep schedule just to play in this qualifier since I always wake up at 6am everyday and of course you might say I'm writing this post because I lost and I'm upset but if you compare ESL NA to ESL EU, most of their cups start at 2pm CET. Why can't it be the same for us ?

I understand most players living on the west coas are probably not affected by this but I think it's a reasonable change.

We hear you and we will definitely keep this in mind for our future qualifiers. IEM Shanghai was announced quite late and there wasn't much time to organise these qualifiers with MLG Anaheim this weekend and WCS Challenger running so late (and qualifiers starting again next week). Please also keep in mind that whoever qualifies for IEM Shanghai will need to take care of getting a visa in time and we need some time to book proper flights for the players...

Bottom line: There was very little time to run these qualifiers and we will look to improve this drastically for the upcoming events.

Some people have jobs and cant afford to play at any time of the day, 8EST is a good middle ground for the entire continent stop your complaining.

This is to announced that the Stage 2 Brackets are now published: http://www.nationalesl.com/us/sc2/1on1/china2/rankings/
Another thing to note is the time of the tournament has been moved from 8:00 pm EST to two hours earlier now starting at 6:00 pm EST. This should help in preventing the cup from going too late into the night.

See you all there!

That's what everyone said when he was in homestory cup qualifiers too. Can't count the americans out yet.

Unforutnately RootKane and RootTheognis don't have internet right now so will be losing their round 1 matches by default. They might have it in time for losers bracket but not gauranteed!

Why the hell are the tournament formats for the qualifiers not standardized and equal across all four regions? Double-elim for America and SEA, single elim for Europe, how does that make any sense!?

Its because we are given freedom to choose which format we think will work best for our region. Double Elim I feel works best for americas region to give the players more games instead of 1 game and ur out.

anyone who has ever complained about axeltoss during MLG duo casts should really give his solo casting a shot, i find him a bit more likeable/enjoyable when hes casually casting solo, not sure why.

He got a lot of praise for his Dreamhack solo casting, too.

Ok so Polt defended and then won versus a baneling bust while going cc first into 3 cc. If i recall correcly, jaedong did this to taeja on the same map with both the same build and taeja insta gged, i think his hellions were not quite there yet but still. I think polt is on another level right now.

taejas hellions were very late (7min or so) since he went 3rd cc before gas vs jaedong

Oh thanks I had not noticed that, was wondering how could polt defend that after such a greedy opening.

It will be nice to have Polt, hopefully a lot of Koreans show up to the open bracket with it being relatively cheap compared to most WCS point tournaments.

Kinda cool to point out that cKiller our IEM veteran single handedly eliminated the rest of the koreans from the Qualifiers. We are guaranteed to have at least one true player from the Americas now to join in with our adopted American Polt!

Three reasons IMO:

1) Qxc threw a lot of units away in drops. He kept trying to hellbat drop the main and natural for far too long. There was also the medivac that got hit by a feedback just after HTs hit the field.

2) Missing EMPs. In that first big engagement at State's ramp, qxc didn't EMP the Archons. Not sure why, he had the ghosts, but no EMPs went down, and qxc lost all his vikings and ghosts in that fight. It happened again right at the end. qxc could have EMPed the units busting up his main ramp, but didn't and got stormed for it.

3) Trying to fight colossus without vikings. This was at State's fourth, when the supplies were at about 120 each. qxc kept trying to bust up that ramp, despite State having two colossus too four (and quickly no) vikings.

Overall, qxc made a few mistakes that allowed State to be really cost effective, nullifying qxc's economic advantage, and eventually giving State the win.
