"56 of the world's best StarCraft II players". This statement may be right formally, but it just doesnt feel right.

So you're saying that the players in this competition competing for qualification are not amongst the best in the world? Come on.

Let's say it's more the topX of each region rather than the topX worlwide, but whatever the format is fine for me.
Unless he turned it down, I'm still wondering why you didn't include lucifron in the euro qualifier, he deserved a chance much more than some others.

I hope Caliber owns Goswer. Never really liked Goswer and Caliber is pretty good just not much recognition for him

Goswser had a bad reputation, but now he's being pretty cool, and he's so much of a hard worker, can't see him losing more than one game here.

goswser said zvp was zerg favored when nerchio lost
show us what you got! :D

MLG didn't say they are the 56 best players in the world but 56 OF the best players in the world (in a pool of 200-300 players, it's pretty accurate).

Hopefully goswser won, he's the better player and it would be nice if racial balance was at least somewhat equal, even if the Zergs won't win much at the event.

Life can win with zerglings alone against any player.
|
Life will kill Minigun before he gets to skytoss.
|
I think MLG is doing a great job, building tension before the Dallas event itself.
This winter showdown thing is really well made, OP is well formed, schedule is comprehensible and user friendly. Casting is quite good and the studio shots are a plus too, somehow making me thing this thing is really serious.
Also the fact, that every winner gets a paid trip to Dallas is exceptional.
IMHO the whole winter showdown series is the best thing that MLG has ever done and - for the first time - I am really curious what will happen in Dalllas.

clever creep tumor trick to get faster spread at the 3rd. cant recall seeing that, at least not recently

Caliber is doing a "little bit of everything" all in.
|
13 minute all in, losing one immortal right away to lings. What a disaster.
|
this game is going way better than I though for Caliber.
|
Pretty bad games, to be honest. Caliber seems to just be quite bad. Slow to react and a bit sloppy on macro.
Edit: Officially worst game of the season Such a clusterf*ck

I don't think caliber even played hots at all during beta unless I am mistaken.
Also wtf gosu threw this game :o.

I can't tell if mass SH / Hydra is weak once storm is out or if that was just terribly executed. :/

Why all the hate =O I'm really digging this game, superb play by both players.
Looks like caliber got this now though :>
|
man, its really so bad that its become good. I love these two. Calibre seems like he's never played HOTS before. Gowser's just trying to throw the game as hard as possible.

This was one of the worst games I ever watched.

Actually sh/hydra crushes templar focused play. The engagement that gosu lost he had to many swarmhosts (imo) as well as he should have pulled them back not kept them burried when the army is charging you and his locusts were not attacking in that engagement either.
|
Game was pretty back and forth, im hoping more and more hots games are like this. MLG doing a great job with production, the matchups, etc.
|
The game was pretty sloppy but it had some nice back-and-forth action. I enjoyed it way more than a perfectly executed / perfectly defended soul train into stomp.
|
I think you guys are underestimating how hard it is to play while as far behing as Gosu was... it was a pretty sick comeback and great move to go swarm host. And sure caliber could prolly have handled them better but he was actually trying to harrass a lot meanwhile.

yeah, agree. It was fun. But the back and forth was only because of huge mistakes by both players.

The storms deal with the current wave of locus which lets the toss army engage directly on the hydras and storm / collosus can clean up hydras without losing anything but energy. I haven't had much change to play the match up but storm really seems to put a stop to any hydra / locus based armies long enough for the rest of the toss army to just roll over the swarmlords or secure an expansion.

Great game! Instant classic! I've watched enough macro games
|
yeeeeaah, I suspect a lot of 4 gates in the next couple of months...
|
haha in hots 4gate still beats 3hatch no gas. At least I don't think goswser took any gas. Just unfortunate scouting for goswser but good play by caliber to ignore the third and go straight for the natural if he had tried to stay and kill off the third he mightve honestly lost.

Well I have been using swarmhosts for a long time in sc2 and I like never lose to templar play when I go swarmhost. I just crush them when they go templar, colossi are the better option imo.

Doubt it. Protoss has the easiest counter ever to vipers. Feedback has just as much range as abduct and more range then blinding cloud. It'll never be a problem or overpowered like infestors in wol.
Also betas over their not nerfing anything till after release and vipers are definitely not even complained about

Vikings shut them down pretty hard (and ghosts, if they were on the field for one reason or another), and feedback can easily 1 shot them. There's nothing wrong with having "good", "interesting", or "fun" units in the game.

I just feel like as soon as all the new timings and stuff are figured out, vipers will be the go to unit. And I for one feel it's really hard to fedback enough of them in time, since one or two clouds/abducts can change the outcome of the fight entirely.
Guess it's up to the pros to show me what to do though :>
And yeah, it'll prolly be a few months before we se them enough to debate it seriously.

If you take Gowser's game as an example, that was Caliber doing exactly what not to do. He literally sat in it for the entire fight. Conceptually, it's just like storm. Bad players are going to stand in it, and get absolutely shifaced, and then they'll call the ability broken BS. If they moved back, broke away from the engagement (which there was nothing stopping him from doing), he could have avoided that slaughterfest

this is hilarious. Caliber really has no clue. I'm laughing my head off.

Yeah ofcourse, however zerg almost always use flanks, or are defending. In both cases backing off isn't the greatest idea... I'm not saying it's overpowered though, just really strong imo.

Yeah, unfortunately MLG contacted me while i was in LA for CSL Grand Finals (WoL). I was a little hesitant to accept the invite but decided to do so anyways, despite the fact that I hadn't touched HotS yet. My friend helped me train, we had about 1-2 schools and I played almost every waking hour outside of class.
Anyways, sorry for the sloppy games. I really had no clue how to handle swarm hosts, but I am also thankful that I lost. Goswer deserves it much more than I do and I think he has significantly better odds of winning vs Bomber than I do.

Wow, never actually seen how you play before but from what I can tell this is quite the nice attitude.
You just earned yourself a fan hope to see you in more events. Losing 0-2 to Goswer isn't a bad thing at all considering how well he did in the Iron Squid.

The new PvZ is so much more exciting to watch. I feel like both sides have pressure to stop the other one. Protoss doesn't put early pressure on, then zergs runaway economy will fuel a nonstop attack/remax which will most likely win. And zerg can't let the skytoss army get going. Much better than protoss has to attack before the zerg gets a runaway economy and the unstoppable deathball.

never followed caliber, but i guess HotS bodes well for him. didn't he just pick up playing HotS rather recently, while goswser has been playing for months? pretty close series for amount of time put in
