I must say as a long time BW viewer, really weird to see RorO of all players beasting in SC2. He neither fits the mold of the BW Ace, like Soulkey, Jaedong, Flash, etc. Nor does he fit the mold of that young, upcoming player in BW who made a great transition, like Bogus, Rain, etc. The guy was a BW vet and a 50% vet at that. His style in BW was cookie cutter macro zerg. Below average micro, above average macro, plays fairly smart but not OMG game-sense. Just overall the definition of average.

Really shows the randomness the transition can be for different players.

I wouldn't call that randomness. It's mostly about how fast a player can adapt to a new game. SC2 and BW share lots of basic concepts, and a lot of skillsets transition well. Maybe it's easier for players without a definite personal style to do well in the new game. Especially players, who excelled in a certain aspect in BW seem to have a very hard time transitioning. (yes, I'm talking about Bisu.) I expect Flash to reach Code S this season, his macro has always been great, but now he seems to have got a deeper understanding of the game, which is needed to make good decisions in-game.
Jaedong, on the other hand, still struggles alot. He's playing well, but he often tends to overextend and to play too aggressively.

Roro was a good all-around zerg in BW. As you've said, he was pretty solid in every aspect of the game, but he wasn't relying heavily on a single element to be an above average player. (Just think of the 2base-muta-zergs)
first we make expand, then we defense it.

So Stephano is from

USA!!

And Goswser from france, illusion from germany. It make sens. Stop with this stupid Kespa Esl rivalry, it's nonsens.

Not really, the rivalry brings excitement. It's no different then say: AFC vs NFC or East vs West. It's especially fun watching the Kespa doubters get proven wrong day by day. So, I say keep the rivalry.

It doesn't bring excitement, it promotes massive amounts of hostility and angst.
It's not friendly banter or competition.
It's people being argumentative/aggravating twats for no reason other than it gives them a reason to do so.

People do that between teams regardless. Look at the NFL or NBA playoffs and you'll see what I mean. The hostility will exist regardless. It may not bring excitement to you, but that's also your opinion. Also, the hostility and angst is fine because everyone's anonymous.

I'm not sure if youre being sarcastic or not (in relation to the bold part).

The banter in regards to Startale v LG-IM, or SK Telecom T1 v KT Rolster is more productive and relative to what you've mentioned.
The KeSPA/eSF thing is more comparable to soccer hooligan's starting riots in the streets of Europe cause their team lost.

Which is why I said the hostility is fine due to the anonymity of the people (meaning that nobody gets hurt regardless of how heated things get). Also, it depends on the person too. The rivalry is fine and should be accepted. I believe the elephant article screwed everything up though. The writer should have played silent killer...

I really don't understand how hostility is "fine" because everyone is anonymous. I understand this is the internet, but it also isnt 4chan.

I think the general "rivalry" is great - I was really intrigued by the "Elephants" coming over from BW. It just escalates in such extreme fashion by completely moronic statements by fanatic "fans" in the LR threads these days that it becomes a completely unpleasant topic to discuss as everyone is throwing shit at each other.

I'm a fan of players from both eSF and KeSPA and have no interest in proving if one is superior/inferior in the other, and maybe I just dont understand why others feel the need to do so

Maybe its because I didn't ever follow broodwar.. so it almost feels like a BW vs SC2 argument when its all one thing now *shrugs* 2c :D

"Maybe its because I didn't ever follow broodwar" is the key phrase behind all your statements liberate71.

[bold] is a pretty blanket statement to make about what I've been discussing. Especially when "I really don't understand how hostility is "fine" because everyone is anonymous." was in the exact same post.

I'm sure it has some relevance (hence why I mentioned it) - but using it as potential "justification" for this entire "us vs them" fanatical bashing-heads fiasco to continue is a bit ridiculous

Dodgin's earlier post pretty much summed it up.

Parting is on a Kespa team, so he's a Kespa player. Taeja is on a foreign team so he's a foreign player.

I would rather say Taeja is a KeSPA player.

I beg to differ. But calling him a foreign player is downright degrading and disrespectful.

It's wrong, but hardly degrading.

I don't know why people seem to think there is a fundamental difference between Koreans and foreigners. Koreans aren't good because they're Koreans, they're good because they're good. There is no difference a priori. Foreigners are not some kind of untermensch, and if all you changed about Taeja was his nationality, he would still be equally good at Starcraft and equally worthy of respect.

This attitude seriously needs to stop.

In the same vein, a foreign player should not have more to prove just because he's foreign, and a Korean player should not automatically be considered better just because he's Korean. Yet I see this all too often.

the analogy for "Foreigner" (with Stephano as an exception) is generally to describe poor play

With all due respect I think that interpretation is dumb. «Foreigner» means «not in possession of a South Korean citizenship», or in some cases «not trained in the South Korean scene».

If people want to say «bad player» they should use the term «bad player». That is degrading.

I disagree. People often refer to bad playing/players as going "full foreigner" which is an analogy used for poor play. Also, lets be more direct and accurate with the term. Foreigner is really "anybody" outside ones country. We're foreign to Korea and Korea is foreign to us.

There is always hostility whenever the competition is involved. I don't see how it makes the entertainment worse. Basically, kespa esf rivalry was one of the reasons to watch SC2 matches. Forum etiquette is a different thing.

It's so weird how I use to be so pumped when Parting made it through, but now since the switch, I have no urge to root for him. I really can't say it's team bias, cuz there's plenty of players I rooted for, even despite them leaving a team I like(Squirtle,Genius, ect).
I missed the games today, so I need to go check them out when I get chance. I really want to see Roros matches.

This. So much.

Makes me sick to be frank. LR threads are utterly unreadable because of it. Team vs team rivalries are always pretty friendly. But the KeSPA vs ESF thing has just devolved into something disgustingly hostile and aggressive; all thanks to that damn "Elephant" article.

So you think a fundamentally hostile environment is suitable for a website that acts as the major community hub is a good thing? Really?

Not necessarily a good thing. It will happen regardless. The only "good thing" about it is that nobody gets physically hurt, like you see at some of these football/basketball games between fans.

There's nothing wrong with rivalry but when It's so hostile that people don't want to read the threads or post in them It's gone too far, every time an eSF player beats a kespa player or a kespa player beats an eSF player you get these rehashed fanboy arguments that devolved into personal insults and flame wars. I have no problem with people cheering for kespa players or kespa teams but when you take something like that and extend it to some kind of war between two groups that each have 100~ or so players in them it just doesn't make sense. Kespa better? Well, look at Baby, he went 0-4 in his Code S group them immediately dropped to Code B! eSF better? Mvp just dropped out of GSL and Life lost to Roro, eSF as a whole clearly sucks!

It's stupid to take such a large number of players as one collective being, if people would say " Innovation is better than X " no one would be mad at you, but if you say Kespa is better than eSF based on the achievements of one player or a few players then it makes no sense.

This will be the last time I comment on this, It's been too many times. I just hope some of you take it to heart so we can all enjoy the forum more.

Enough about the Artosis curse, really. It doesn't take a genius to see that he predicts a lot of games when casting and all the wrong calls he makes get blown out of proportion.

By the way, are people still promoting the silly EG curse?

And there are just as many BW hardcore followers who would vote Kespa regardless of player and their game play (Remember in WCS Korean when they said Kespa players were just as good as eSF players even though they have only been playing 1 month? How many elephants jpeg were posted?). Like Flash himself just said, Kespa players are no different from eSF players. They are not more 'talented' in RTS games. It will come down to hard work and talent (in SC2). The elephant is dead (killed by the God Elephant himself).

Honestly, the future top players of SC2 will be a mixed of eSF WoL stars, Kespa BW stars, eSF WoL non-stars that become great in HoTS and Kespa non-starts that become great in HoTS and maybe even a foreigner (could be Stephano or someone else).
