Whether you wanted Parting to win or not, everybody has to appreciate what Life has done in the last few months. He has won 3 major tournaments, playing finals against all 3 races. He has beaten almost every top player of every race within the last few months.
Every time people say he's weak in a particular matchup, he evolves and comes back looking dominant. He was struggling in ZvP when he lost TSL 4 to Creator. He's beaten every top Protoss in Korea since. He looked shaky in ZvZ for a while, came out a few weeks later and beat Leenock, DRG and Sniper in this tournament.
It's just amazing.

Poor Parting, but am Glad StarTale has truly emerged as the team they should... however, Seed winning best P player is just wrong... perhaps even worse is that only 1 Protoss won a GSL this year... add 2 for the last 2 years as well... Still, I don't think you can seperate Parting and Life with respect to being the best player in the world... especially with the curve added to Zerg

I think one of the difficult things when discussing player of these year in 2012 was that 2012 was so back end loaded. Players that 'peaked' at the end had a big advantage when talking about acheivements.
In Oct, Nov, Dec, we had 3 GSL finals, OSL finals, WCS Global, WCG, IPL, MLG, etc. It is almost equal to the number of big tournaments from Jan - Sept.
Of course, Life and PartinG had a crazy finish to the year. But they were no where near the discussion until late Oct (Life) and Nov (PartinG). And even then, they didn't win all the tournaments (Leenock with IPL, Rain with OSL, Sniper with GSL) during that 3 month span.

About the zerg thing, I still believe maps with 4th base very hard to take but 3rd easy to take will help protoss and terran a lot. Maps are still a possible way to balance it out, current map pool is imbalanced, and lack variety. By comparison, 4th base in SC2 is like 3rd base in BW, very critical.
