Kind of funny that this tournament with a $25,000 first place prize is getting very little attention. And WTF, CombatEX played in an international tourney and did that well? LOL I can't believe that's not getting more attention. I just now learned about randomly cuz I was browsing through Liquipedia...I'll bet a lot of people don't even know.

Actually the only talk there was was about CombatEX. Maybe too much talk about him and yeah, really not enough about WCG. And Adelscott in the finals is already bigger of a news than CombatEX winning in the group stage imo.

To be fair, Adel did not have to go through a single Korean, dropped his game against combatex, and had his biggest wins come against Fenix, Fraer, and LoWeLy, who while those are very good players they are not exactly the players you want to beat to get a hype train going. I mean, if LoWeLy can take 3rd place his 2-0 of YongHwa, 2-0 of MarineKing, and win against MacSed would seem much more impressive to me in retrospect than a 2nd place by Adel even with Adel winning the head to head. (Now, if Adel wins the whole thing, obviously this changes)
I hope parting wins it, then again WCG was never about just starcraft I always love watching all the random other games too. It has a really lovely vibe around it, truly unique.

The funniest part is that he was in his worst career's period until these WCG. Unable to go through the pool play in a french tournament for example. http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Francophone Championship Season 1. So it's a very good surprise to see him in the grand finals. And if he earns the spot for the GSL Tour it will be the icing on the cake.

That's exactly why I say he came out of no where, because he was doing so bad lately. I bet nobody even expected him to get out of that group.

Exactly. I'm a Millenium fan but honestly, I didn't see him to go through his group (I didn't expect fraer and KiLLeR fail so hard neither). Glad I was wrong.

It's at the same time as IPL and GSL, and there are hardly any good players in this. It's not really taken seriously by most fans.
I'd love to see a foreigner take this for a change. Go Adel! But any idea why they're playing the grand final before the third place match? That doesn't make much sense to me.

Sure but still Adel is in finals and CombatEX not. I didn't say what CombatEX did was not impressive compared to Adel, but in the end it's a bigger news to be in the finals than just qualify for playoffs.

this proxy phoenix build is as cute as yesterday blink hallu colossus one seriously they should play straight up to have a decent chance against Parting. It's PvP after all
Epic game. Moon failed to defend his ancient though ( invis humans + mortar managed to get his ancient ).
Short summary of that match:
Moon had hero level lead (Warden level 6 + Panda) and army lead but they got into a base race and the Sky (the human player) managed to destroy all his structures (besides wisps and one ancient) and managed to snipe his main ancient twice.
Finally, Moon loses due to the final snipe against his remaining structure remaining.

His results would only be impressive if he actually beat people who have any name value whatsoever. Instead, he beat a bunch of people I've never heard of and the guy who made the most bashed build in PvP history, after which CombatEX got promptly smacked down by Parting. What I'm more interested in, personally, is Lowely's upset of MKP and Adelscott's victory over Lowely and Fenix.

Most people consider HU mirror the most boring matchup because breakerwars ( i find it quite entertaining tho) but most of them are good.

There isn't really a 'best' matchup, it's just that Undead is the weakest race so they're played less often. Mirrors aren't bad (imo), but lots of pros dislike them, even to the point of playing a different race (Remind plays Orc sometimes instead of Elf mirror, TH000 plays NE sometimes instead of Human mirror). Orc mirror is kinda like a mix between PvP and ZvZ.
They get in to late game of course, usually in the human matchups. It's not so common though, but it happens still.

UD skely + crypt fiends is really easy to play with, but once you are playing with people who know how to creep its a completely different story since that combo doesn't scale with gear at all.

But if you are beginner, with UD you just lose units a ton, while orcs tank more and are easier to save.

With 4 races, there are too many match-ups to convincingly say one is better than the other.
I'll give you my opinion instead: My top 3 favorite match-ups:
1) Orc vs Undead (Just look at the series going on right now, and you'll realize how freaking unreal this match-up can be at times. I absolutely love it)
2) Human vs Human (Similar to the TvT match-up in SC2, this match-up can be extremely long at times, and be nail-biting close when very skilled players are in control)
3) Orc vs Orc (An extremely micro-intense match-up)
My 3 worst match-ups:
1) Human vs Orc (Can, at unusual times be extremely intense, but usually just ends up in the human doing some variation of a tower rush, which is usually short and boring or expand mass tower/mass gryphon style, which is also quite boring)
2) Night elf vs Undead (I just think it's rather boring to watch)
3) Night Elf vs Human (Same as above, usually not very exciting)
Concerning your second questions: Mirror are (in my opinion) nothing worse than any other match-up and can just as any other match-up be long, intense and very varied in terms of unit compositions. I'd say the average game time of a WC3 pro game is around 14-15 minutes, which would mean 50 % of the games are above that length. This tells you that WC3 games can be just as long if not longer than average SC2 games. Despite this, most of these games aren't played out with supplies over 50 (but this has more to do with the mechanics of the upkeep than anything else), but very big fights can occur, especially in the human match-ups (HvO and HvU on certain maps can go all up to 100 vs 100 fights).

Fiends are really easy to keep alive if you have even a modicum of control. Again most players won't know how to shadow an UD player well enough for the imbalance to really show outside of the top level of play.
Orc units are fucking fat, slow, melee, and don't do damage.
Concerning your second questions: Mirror are (in my opinion) nothing worse than any other match-up and can just as any other match-up be long, intense and very varied in terms of unit compositions.
Well, Orc vs Orc isn't really that varied. In 90% of games, you'll actually see the exact same army at 50 supply. BM, SH, 4 Grunts, 2 Raiders, 2 Spirit Walker, 1 Kodo, and 12 Peons =O.
On December 02 2012 18:13 babylon wrote: I can't believe someone actually likes HU mirror. Omg breaker wars not fun.
I haven't watched pro games for over a year, but my memories of that match-up are hilarious micro wars with breaker surrounds everywhere, millitas, epic hero fights with high levels, knights, sorcs with invis and plenty more.
I guess though, during the later days I mostly just watched the top of the cream when it came to WC3 replays.
I like how the undead incorporates banshees into his play. When I still followed WC3, I had always wondered why no one used them against Orc. I mean, they effectively cut the damage of the orc army by one third and do decent damage against grunts as well. And Orc never gets dispel against UD.
I am old enough to have played WCIII but forgot so much about it. Never played at highest level just beating kids from my school. Blizzard should have WC3 games rather than SC2 until HotS, it was so refreshing to watch!

We're just being a bit nostalgic here. TeD is freaking amazing and it should be known one of the most historical victories just occurred here. But there's only so much you can talk about it. The memories just come floating back to me now, all the past WCGs, the WC3L, the NGL, ESWC (when it used to be good), BlizzCons....just everything. I was living a dream back then, everything was just so good and exciting.
What else is there to say about TeD, man? TeD won with amazing micro, holy shit balls massive risk-taking, and Fly's general unwillingness to adapt his style to counter TeD's (e.g. I don't understand his general unwillingness to right-click the DK, to go to T3 for an orb, to get SH+walkers, etc.). Ffffft. As they say, to beat someone like Fly you kind of just need to outmicro him and to exploit the strategic holes in his play, which TeD did beautifully when he realized that Fly was basically going to hand over map control to him on a silver platter. That's the difference between Fly and Grubby/Lyn; you need to also outthink the latter two and outmicro them too.
Granted, Lyn played pretty poorly this tournament overall, and TeD did beat him too, rofl.

Grats, TeD, for making history. :D
But seriously, did TeD's opponents make any visible mistakes? Like, was it clear they could have prepared better? Or was just TeD awesome?
Closing ceremony going on A right now, breakdance, before that some Chinese imitators of SNSD.
WCG had a weak SC2 lineup and timings... not only 3rd place match after finals but also only those matches? They crammed too much into days 1 and 2 and didn't have enough for days 3 and 4.
Still happy for how well Adelscott did though, especially well compared to recently. MacSed also did great.
So what's the story with CombatEx? I confess I watched nothing of this tournament and was extremely surprised to see that he went 4-1 in his group and then took a game off of Parting.
Also congrats to Parting, doing work! Really hope he can continue to show some really dominant protoss play.

Hahahahaha it's awesome when you come into a thread on a Starcraft 2 forum hoping to find something about the Starcraft 2 games, and almost every post in the thread is talking about Warcraft 3

haha that was great, even quite nice games actually. Especially liked the hold from parting in the last game, that zealot-stalker-stalker defense is quite good against proxy gates.

If you ask about WC3, WCG is really unlucky tournament for Korean players. If I am not mistaken, ReminD and Lyn were the only players to win WCG's (in 2010 and 2011 respectively). It was always Chinese / foreigner tournament, especially with Sky and Grubby both winning 2 titles.

It is a pity that TL is not able to post any news to this tournament. Due to my work I would not get any information if these threads will not be here within SC2 community.
