Did AlexCMoi retake his spot, therefore effectively making CombatEX go "OMG I'M GOING TO WCG!!!" only for Alex to say "Nope, actually I AM going to WCG" crushing CombatEX's dreams?

How nice of them to put all the KR players in different groups. I wonder which one of them is going to win.
MKP will win, this isn't located in Korea.
I think Group A could be interesting, YongHwa is the favorite, but LoWeLy can beast it up if he feels like it, while MacSed always seem to beat koreans in China...
Group B should be crushed by PartinG
However if it's all Bo1s... anything could happen.

They didn't do it for KR. All the countries that had multiple representatives are in different groups. This makes sense and very common in other sports where you qualify by region. They usually distribute the regions like that. They also did it for WCS (except if was Asia instead of Korea so there was some overlap groups)

Both MKP and SuperNoVa got knocked out in Ro8 last year to Kas and TiTaN respectively. It was up to Mvp to win it for Korea and he delivered.
And for all the people saying MKP is taking the easy way out. Please remember they had to go through the Korean Qualifiers to get here. And the Korean Qualifiers had ALL (Kespa/non Kespa) players. Granted, the Kespa players had just switched over at this point. So you could argue that this was a more difficult path compare to IPL5.

Eh, last year it was bo1's too and the KR players made it through group stage.
Mvp 6-0, Supernova and MKP 5-1. Since then the skill gap between foreigners and Koreans outside of the top foreigners has become even larger. I can't see Parting Yonghwa or MKP losing a single game to anyone in their groups looking at the names here. All three of these guys are top top players, Yonghwa only recently got into the GSL but he's clearly Code S level, he won the KR qualifier ( beat MKP in the finals, lol. ) and got two all kills in GSTL in the past few months.
The only player I see causing an upset is fraer, and they will meet in the later rounds where It's not BO1.
Anything but top 3 KR would be extremely surprising. Maybe fraer could PvP Parting or Yonghwa out but even that's a stretch.
ugh, sorry, i stuffed up some of my calendar entries, adding four events this weekend over four days kinda messed me up haha. so atm some of the entries are wrong (ipl5 day 1, wcg day 2-4) but hope one of the mods can catch that

MKP stands a good chance against both/either
Yeah I just edited that, didn't see he was qualified.
Assuming Yonghwa, Parting, and MKP all top their groups, it looks like it'll be Parting and MKP facing off in the semis to see who will play Yonghwa in the championship.
The only upset I could see would be fraer getting first in his group (which should be quite possible), beating whoever comes out second in B (so probably Xluos, Fenix or Stareagle) which is quite possible, too, and then beating Yongwha to make the Grand Finals which is way harder but not out of the question with fraer's strong PvP.
It's not very likely, but that'd be the easiest path to a WCG Finals ever, all thanks to the reduced player numbers.
Apart from that, which would actually make me want to watch a bit, there don't seem to be many other interesting matches , so we'll probably see a Yonghwa vs X finals.
i remeber when WCG was the peak of esports, the summit of korea vs foreigners, cant get more oldschool than that ... nowadays the player rooster is very limited but still i'll be chering for d.killer!!!! i think he has a good chance of winning his group... he likes to pull upsets from time to time

Bo1 in groupplay with more players (6) is perfectly fine. You get to play 5 games guaranteed vs different players. Thats more fair than Bo5 single elim (3-5 games vs same opponent), or Bo3 double elim (4-6 games vs 2 opponents), two formats which nobody complains about.

IPL and WCG on the same dates? Seriously, there needs to be some governing body to ensure major tournaments don't conflict. Not only for the viewership, but for the players who want to go to both events.
You can't just miraculously fix every scheduling conflict with some sort of almighty governing body, the end of the year is always incredibly busy and there are simply not enough weekends to have tournaments on without conflicting with others..

And to add, players as well as viewers are complaining about tournament fatigue. Why should we then make it possible to play/view even more? We should be glad that SC2 is in such a good state that we have so many tournaments. It just means that a player can't play all, and a viewer - if not totally hardcore - possibly won't view all.

With tournaments having been planned months ahead, it's hard to believe it takes a miracle to see a conflict and move a tourney a few days forward or back. The governing body needn't be almighty at all, just a central website repository that looks at the schedule during planning stages and reports a conflict. There's simply a lack of communication and it's wasn't until recently that major tournaments have started working together - namely MLG, DH & ESL.

TeD over Lyn's definitely an upset, but Lyn actually drops maps to UDs pretty often now in Bo3s (but tends to win the whole series). Too bad for him this is Bo1. He's in a dangerous position with Fly in his group.

Fly is the same as Lyn. Moon is supposed to be full-time SC2. Sky is ... idk, advertising, casting, and playing DotA. TeD just recently came back, but I think if he makes it out of groups, it could get pretty interesting.
I'm not even gonna watch. I just wanna express how sad I find it how much WCG has gone down the drain. The only somewhat respectable foreigners attending are Fenix and fraer, everyone else is at IPL. With WCG's terrible decisions, management and overcommercialization, it is their own fault, but it's sad nonetheless.
Remember when international live events were few and far between, and WCG was the event of the year? With foreigners getting a rare chance at competing with those unbeatable Korean demigods, a huge stir when someone actually took a single map off a Korean, Tasteless rising to prominence as a caster with unparalleled enthusiasm and energy... good old times.

Lucifer isn't playing in WCG.
Sky has been playing sloppy for more than a year now. Even when he took 2nd last year, he wasn't playing well, just playing good enough to get past his opponents. He preps extensively for WCG though (almost exclusively the only tournament he preps nowadays), so maybe he'll prove me wrong. He definitely hasn't been the best HU for a long time though. Both TH000 and Infi (even after Infi's switch to SC2) have consistently shown better games than Sky imo. Sky just somehow turns it on for WCG-related events every year, it seems. >_>
ReMinD has been slumping recently. He's going off to military service next year as well, so this is kind of his last hurrah in terms of wider exposure. I haven't seen especially great play from him in months.
This group honestly should've been a walkover for Lyn, but he just shot himself in the foot playing greedy. He will probably win vs. Hawk, but Fly is a toss-up. If I had to pick favorites to win, I would choose Lyn and Fly, followed by Sky, followed by ReMinD. The problem is it depends on who gets through group stages, and Bo1s in War3 at this high of a level are really difficult to call.
Edit - NVM, I don't think Wolf is casting (Sounds like Doa is though).
Haha yeah, I thought it was Wolf too at first. Other guy is called Rambo I think.
CS Online is actually the same one as CS 1.6. It is online version for Asian scene but almost the same one without big change. But they do not have qualifier tournaments for Europe. Western guys are switching to CS: Global Offence any way. CS: GO is a different game since it is developed with a new engine.

Its not that unlikely. He reached the final last year, only barely losing to Lyn. I think he has a bigger chance this year considering that he didn't play any other games besides WC3 and others such as Moon and Lyn did.
As for Moon, the WCG curse is indeed too strong on him . And he is focusing entirely on SC2 now, so I don't have high hopes. Moon wins would of course be the best thing ever

Sky is ahead, he should be way further ahead though cos he didn't tech properly while wrecking the living hell out of Paladyn's expo attempts and killing the goblin shredder.

Though the game obviously just ended, sky was way ahead the whole time.
I want ReminD to lose solely because he denied the 3rd WCG gold of my hero Grubby. Normally I love his play, but after that series I was really mad T_T
Nothing surprising today, IMO. CHecking the results it went pretty much like expected. Thought XluoS would make it through, but Fenix is definitely good enough.
In Grop A I was expecting MacSed/YongHwa, so I just need Yong to make it.

Fenix suprised me. I missed the games though, don't know if he advanced in convincing fashion or not.
And WC3 is awesome. I love the casting and the game itself. I totally forgot that you stay on one base for so long ^.^

Does he know much about WC3? But yeah, fun to watch him cast WC3 (fun to watch any caster you know from other games cast some other game they never played before).
Also both Stream A and D going to Dota (WC3 Dota it seems).

Wasn't really a beat down, more like "when behind dark shrine" and it worked.

I dont know, but I dont think so. He is more co-casting, responding what the other caster says, great way to pretend that you understand what is happening, haha.
Now, time for some Dota W3. Long time that I watched this, omg. The "meta" is the same than Dota II?

Haha. Supposedly he was a Warcraft 3 player before he started playing Dota. I wonder how long ago that was
Also, as a spectator activity is it just me that thinks WC3 Dota really trumps LoL? Irrespective of gameplay, which I don't really understand the subtleties of, I find the art design is more distinctive, and you can differentiate things more easily.
Equally this may be me having played WC3 and a few games of WC3 DOTA.

I prefer Dota to LoL and Dota 2. I played all three games, but I played years of Dota 1 and only ~10-30 games of Dota 2 and LoL each so I am clearly biased :D
While Chinese teams have transitioned to Dota 2, they still look better than teams outside of China in Dota 1. Dota 1 is going to come down to whether the Korean team, which I think is one of the older veteran teams in the scene, is capable of pulling an upset.

You make it sound like beating xluos is a big thing, lol. Outside of China he is even less known than StarEagle for sure.
who the hell is stareagle?
Well, I am not saying that StarEagle is very well known, just more well than xluos for sure.
StarEagle finished top 16 at WCS Europe, while xluos finished top 16 at WCS Asia. However, I would think that most people from the US scene know the EU scene much better than the Chinese one, simply because there is so much more coverage and information about it in English. Even the TL writers didn't do a preview for WCS Asia because they had no clue who most of the Chinese guys were. They do know StarEagle for sure though.

"freaking WCG" holds a fair lot less weight than it did during BW times. we only do have a handful of writers, after all.
That's weird. I don't doubt that the competition level will be higher at IPL but I'm always more interested in tournaments with national qualifiers than purely professional events. And I have soft spot for WCG specifically. At least MKP and Parting are attending
Really expected Xluos and Yonghwa (as groupwinner) to get through, Parting was obvious and MacSed/Lowely was my second pick for Group A.. Very (happily) surprised about Fenix!
Paranoid and Killer/fraer + MKP and qxc/Jim to get through today!
