I think the key to playing Mech successfully is to do some damage with hellions to limit their offensive capabilities and then heavily turtle to reach a perfect army (Raven with HS missile, mass viking, etc.) as well as constantly scanning and scouting for updated information on their composition and or tech switches. At the same time while Mech is turtling to reach that composition I think a player like Life can break them - he's absolutely the best in the world at finding vulnerabilities in builds, timings, and structures.... I'm fully expecting this game to revolve around Flash attempting to turtle and doing a great job but Life just relentlessly poking until he finds a weakness. Should be exciting (I can always hope).
I'd just like to add that I think this is what MVP failed at in their match: he did the first part (economic harass with hellions) but his followup did not involve turtling, he moved out without a good composition, he did not keep track of tech switches and timings, and he did not attempt the ultra late game 15 OC's + Raven/Thor/Viking insanity.
Yeah you are right in that people break this down to a game of pure counters, when it ebbs and flows differently.
Interestingly the Raven/Thor/Viking composition seems only getable if the map gets fully split a la MVP vs Nestea on Metropolis, I'd be really impressed if somebody works out a way to transition to it on other maps well.

Hey folks,
So we fucked up. We were under the impression CranK wasn't supposed to play until tomorrow. The schedule listed "possible losers rounds", but did not provide specifics. There is no online resource to check specific matches, basically you have to rely on a board in the venue. With large gaps and insufficent practice machines available for players, this results in some players going back to the hotel rather than hanging around for potentially hours waiting to see if they have another match that day.
We made the mistake of not checking the board, instead relying on hear-say. This was really stupid, a rookie mistake and we should have known better. CranK started playing at 10am today but was scheduled for losers bracket round 2, and potentially 3 and 4 tonight at 9pm, 10pm and 11pm. It is standard practice for MLG to play Championship Sunday games on Saturday evening to clear some of the bracket prior to Sunday itself so the finals don't run too late. The schedule was behind somewhat though not by much. While we feel MLG could do a better job of communicating with players and providing them the resources necessary to know when they're playing (such as text message notifications or an online system), this is not MLGs fault, it's Axioms. We were responsible for making sure he was at his match at the right time and we failed in that responsibility. MLG went out of their way to try and accomodate us but CranK was back at the hotel asleep, since he had been awake since 2am Saturday morning. He was not able to wake up, get back to the venue and play potentially 3 more BO3s against world class players.
His neck condition has nothing to do with this forfeit. He's not in the best shape, he hasn't been able to practice much prior to MLG due to manditory military service (which lasted several days), his sisters wedding (6 hours away from Seoul by train) and the drama of the last few weeks and attacks by Korean anti-fans have kept him off the internet for the most part. We feel he performed well regardless of this lack of practice and he is going to have plenty of opportunity to prepare for Lonestar Clash 2 in weeks time since he will be staying in the TeSPA house to practice and ready himself.
Ultimate this is managements responsibility and we fucked up. We are sorry, we let down the fans, caused problems for MLG and ultimately, failed in our duty of care to our player. We sincerely apologise and will do our best to make sure this never happens again. This is not MLGs fault or CranKs, the buck stops here.

Polt/Violet should be main stage. Rain vs. sOo Blue Stream.
Why? Because we already know whoever wins Rain/sOo will then get main stage treatment vs. Naniwa the next game anyway.

If a survey was ever conducted about the percentage of a user's TL posts that contain the word "Polt", it would be like:
Fionn: 40% Guy who started the Polt fanclub: 5% Next highest random fanboy: <1%

Thanks for the clarification on Crank. I don't follow Reddit. Thanks for the info also!

Rain and especially Flash, yes.
Soulkey/sOo/hyvaa have the same drawing power as an average Korean.

Hellions beat lings, so mech is the way to beat him. The hard part is the sky transition when the GGlords come.
When MVP lost to Life 4-3, all 4 games lost were with Mech, but only when GGlords came out. You have to do eco damage with the hellions. Or zerg can just outproduce/out tech a mech build.
or just try to set up a split map, make sure to have enough vikings and play quite defensively with planetary fortresses. As long as you counter broods zerg can't break you and they can be whittled down, a split map scenario usually goes to the mecher who have lower units lost usually, thus win when the map gets mined out. Saw mech win vs zerg a couple times already this way without doing too much succesful harass
