Are these qualifiers even legal ? I don't understand why a group of people (Kespa players) would get seeded and recieve such an absurdly favourable treatment considering their unexistant Starcraft 2 achievements.

I wouldn't get terribly worked up over anything WCG does.

Doesn't really answer his question does it?
I'm pretty sure his question was rhetorical as it's pretty obvious WCG can do whatever they want since it's their tournament.

To support the players/organisation that perpetuated eSports in Korea for the past ~10 years? (Notably the post-Savior period/2007 onwards)
There are places where invites are completely unjustified; this isn't one of them. You're being stupid.

Not much else to take from this than a click on the report button. Why even bother to post if this is the quality to bring?
On the topic of Kespa qualifiers for WCG, I think for now It's needed. But as soon as the current proleague season ends or a bit afterwards you will see this stuff go away.
It's not like the kespa players will be able to qualify for the WCG finals by completely avoiding the non-kespa players, unless I don't understand the format correctly they will play vs each other in the ro16. edit: round of 30 or " semifinal stage "

august 1st, a few more days yet! haha
and yeah, kespa meets gom in RO16 OSL, RO32 WCG and RO32 WCS, it's not like they get a seed to the RO4.
They just have different qualifier brackets to get through. Relax everyone!

Wait, you realize that the kespa players above (reality and stork) still had to play in a qualifier to get to where they are right? They weren't exactly "seeded" they had to go through their own qualifier, just like the non-kespa players need to go through their own qualifier (except they have to do it all in one day) as well.
I fail to see you point here. What do you mean by, "favourable treatment"?
btw: puzzle, creator, yonghwa, alicia, and seed/brown fighting~~~~~ plz help me forget that squirtle didn't make it through by having all of you guys magically make ro16!

Wednesday, Aug 01 2:00am GMT (GMT+00:00) (see top of OP :p) they take a 2 day break, presumably so OGN can cover SPL in the meantime for mon/tues as they normally do

DId u miss WCS qualifiers where 7 or so people got seeded from Proleague results(withouit playing a single game), why post it now? WCG is way more fair, there are no auto-seeds.

Yeah, they just had different qualifiers. Don't foreign tournaments have this all the time with NA, EU, KR qualifiers? This is so that you have a diverse group of players. It probably won't help sc2 popularity if the tournament was 1-2 Kespa pros vs GSL. And even the WCG itself is like this. If it were just about the top 32 or whatever players in the world, they need to give Korea like 25+ spots.

Things are always fascinating when you disregard facts and live in fantasy. WCS did worse job in bringing equality than WCG. And the logic is simple, you judge the worse behavior first.

The reality is, there are no regulations, laws etc. Its only about PR and reputation.
Reputation is product of word of mouth/keyboard, what we were talking about are merely ethics / morality of competition.
Post above i first answered asked "if this is even legal?". Which is funny because everything is legal there depending on what organizers want or dont want. There are no regulations in this industry. Its only a battle of reputation, getting swings of viewers, setting trends on twitter, or getting massive upvotes on reddit. Thats the reality of current esports. No one was against that Soulkey got seconds chance which proved that he can't pass qualis. Naniwa got seeded into Code S after failing Code A but he got into Semis which suddenly makes it justified etc. I tell you again there are is no equality here. More users happy, better show = "ethics" of esports. The better show you present the better person you are.
Of course all of this was merely my observation, which may be true or untrue. Now getting back to this discussion, you want equality and viewing both WCG and WCS and dealing with them in a most fair way. Fine if it was regulated environment when both WCS and WCG could be viewed by internet community as equals, but its not, their view is already dependant on their business skills, PR skills. and this has nothing to do with facts nor with ethics. So what i said before was already pre calculated, that you should first judge the worst behavior and set a "trend" so than you can judge a better ones.

Real sports tournament organizations are used to give free pass to some successful amateurs from time to time. Thus inviting Naniwa is not that chocking.
However, the WCG organization likes to pretend being the Olympic of e-Sports and I'm pretty sure they've signed a charter which clearly forbids such tribalistic and unjustifiable results-wise preferences.
I went to Liquipedia to check and they actually did seed 8 players past the qualifiers last year as well, the top 8 of the GSL point rankings as of the Super Tournament Mvp, NesTea. MC, MarineKing, Polt, July, NaDa, San.

Unjustifiable preferences? There was a game switch which doesn't ever happen in terms of real sports, the field is already extremely slanted towards the GSL players having years longer practice time and coaching, if anything they should seed players like Flash who won the WCG Starcraft category in 2010. Your usage of vocabulary is just uncalled for, what part of having separate qualifiers for differing players is "unjustifiable", you have different qualifiers for people of different countries and resources, it's a fact that GSL and Kespa players are not in the same league or system. Also trust me a player like Stork is alot more "representative" of esports and would do alot more good for SC2 than alot of people who have potential to qualify from this bracket.
oh relax be happy that WCG is even running at all and giving the progamers who entertain us an opportunity to show us more games and win more money to support their careers

"Game switch" happens all the time in real sports. There's Olympic going on, so it's not that hard to actually look it up.
go stork!! SONG BYUNG GOO ! SONG BYUNG GOO!! ... I haven't seen him play in SC2 yet but I really , really want to see his creative style move onto SC2. Gl hf !
Hmm, if I want MMA to advance, he'll probably be playing Gumiho or Seed in the playoffs. That's going to be tough, considering both (Seed and Gumiho) did extremely well in Busan...
Agh! Better not jinx it. Guess we'll have to see later today. Go MMA!!!

It is really too bad there's not a labeled time for a stream potentially going up. I was hoping to stream english commentary of my own. I'll just have to watch like a hawk I suppose.

So are you [general, not specific you] allowed to stream random games listed under the WCG event listing to boost your viewer count? I feel like that would be against the TL streaming rules.

I think of the active members they have for sc2, the only ones who haven't really done anything noteworthy lately are True and Fenix.

You know what I find interesting? http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=353939 Yoda says that the build he did against Oz in code a was pretty much op and nobody ever beats him when he uses it. He also says that he does not have a lot of confidence going up against supernova, he pretty much went into the game thinking he was going to lose. I think MVP saying that yoda was the best player on IM was more to boost yoda's confidence than an actual fact. 0.o
And then he 2-0'd Supernova, who's been a Code S regular for over a year. I'm not saying he's the best player on IM, but it's not uncommon for Koreans to be humble.
If you watched those games, Supernova 2-0ed himself, he did not play very well and as shown by tonight's results he it not at the same level he once was. Yoda isn't exactly a "humble" player also, I remember that previous time he was in code a (before this season), he mannered muled leenock many times in a match, but leenock still managed to knock him into code b.

When you start owning nerds left and right, the nerds fight back by meticulously studying your play-style and finding each and every weakness you have. That's why it's so hard to stay at the top, and it's why Flash's year+ run as best BW player is so amazing.
He hasn't gone as well lately as I thought he would. Always thought he was going to be the next staple IM player after Losira went down last year but he's still shakey all over Code A and S and in qualifiers.

I almost hope he qualifies for the name alone. But even though I'm not a MKP fan it would be disappointing to see such a good player lose to someone yet to post impressive results.

This is why I feel it is extremely important for players not to fall into a 'play-style' trap, and instead focus on mechanics and a wide-knowledge of builds. The truly successful aren't just one or two trick ponies. This is why NaDa is the greatest RTS player to have ever graced our presence..who knows, could have been Flash if BW lasted longer.
Nice... I mean, he had a TvZ against a random and TvTs which he virtually can't lose except against 2-3 other top Terrans, so it's only normal. But still, gogo MKP :D

WCG KR's lack of stream is a really big fail =/
Not many countries stream their WCG prelims... I know it seems like a huge tournament because of the players involved but they are still the pre-lims... As a fan, of course we would like to see the games since so many big names are involved. But this is like the Code B qualifiers, they probably have enough trouble keeping up with the matches and don't want to have to arrange a stream. I think we got streams for a few hours on the weekend because they were part of estars and were actually playing on stage and in booths.

Favouring terran to me means that they have the advantage over the other races on those maps. They're obviously good maps for terran but Terran isn't favoured on them according to TLPD stats Entombed is heavily in favour of Zerg.

The format was slightly different last year. They had 24 qualifiers + 8 seeds go into ro32 ODT(Bo1). The 16 survivors were then split into 4 groups of 4 and played round robin (with tiebreakers) with top 2 moving on. Those then played in single elim playoff (Bo3). Everything from Ro32 and onwards were broadcasted.
This year, due to many more tournaments (OSL, WCS, foreign events), they are going straight to Ro16 from these qualifiers. Not sure exactly how they will proceed from there.

They do favor terran. These are probably 3 best terran maps.
We already went through the korean stats for these maps and they are actually pretty balanced in terms of win rate (slightly toss favor with terran in the middle and zerg least favor) but the difference is within 1-2% if you add up all 3 maps.
And Cloud Kingdom is much better than Entombed for terran. Anyways, they are much better than Atlantis and Metropolis in terms of balance.
Overall winrate stat is as useful as bnet poll on balance.
then by what metric are you saying these to be terran favoured?
Likely the number of Terrans qualifying. Ironically, it is the same metric As win rate in the long run. Higher win rate = making it further into tournaments.
the maps today are the same maps used in OSL quals not so long ago, where 2 terrans advanced there out of 12. *shrug

Terran have picked-up the pace pretty quick.
We saw Zerg players become way overconfident in the matchup lately. Remember the Hyun vs Major series @ TSL4! It seems that most Zerg players felt kinda invulnerable in the matchup and started playing very sloppy... Now that they are beaten, they will start playing carefully again and things will normalize...

Sorry to disappoint, but I didn't just take a look at the qualifier results and decided that mappool favors terran.
There are so many contributing variables to an outcome of a SC2 match besides map&race. Even if there weren't, you'd need hundreds of data points to make any meaningful conclusion. For instance, you need more than 40-60 split for 100 data points to use it as a strong evidence that a coin toss isn't 50-50 with a fair degree of certainty.

Look before the Queen patch. For the two months where they have to change there meta game. If you do you probably see more Terran Favored stats. Queen patch did a huge toll to changing the TvZ stats. Which does effect the stats more then anything. Now that Terran are used to playing the new meta. The stats go back to what they used to. Honestly just want to see some great matches. What makes me sad though about this tournament now only 2 Zerg made it through.
This isn't for balance stats that I am trying to provide. Just trying to make a point about the maps they picked. DRG has explained that the maps picked weren't very good map selection.
WCG Stats:

By the way in the Semifinal stage if they played against a Terran they lost. The two zerg that made it out of Semifinal Stage were both playing against protoss.

With this map pool you can't say that Terran isn't dominating with a commanding 9 out of 16 players. I am not saying it is balance issue at all, just the maps they picked. There is a reason why there is only 2 out of 16 players being Zerg. I just wished they picked better maps.

lol, that is the definition of statistics? Of course, there are many variables to a SC2. But say Nestea had a 80% ZvZ winrate over 30 matches. You would say he was dominate in this matchup. You could technically argue he only played bad zergs or for some reason, the zergs just derp when facing Nestea.
I know the statistics are not the 'optimal' factor when looking at balance. Only problem is, all the other methods are WORSE. I don't know how other determine map balance, but many sight specific games to make their arguement which is even WORSE then sighting stats. Some posters will claim that Atlantis Spaceship is not bad for terran since Gumiho showed that you can triple expand off 1 rax to counter zerg. I know a sample size of 100 is not optimal but it is better than a sample size of ONE.

So you feel that using player advancement in Bo3 single elim format is valid while overall win rate is not?
And 'better' maps would be Atlantis Spaceship. Metropolis, Emtombed?
So,
IM protoss advances but is not Seed ST terran advances but is not Bomber TSL zerg advances but is not Symbol MVP zerg advances but is not DRG
This just to show how huge the depth of talent in Korea right now. And this is before all the Kespa players have caught up.

I would say that ZvT balance issues only exist on sub pro levels. Terran units are fairly versatile and with godly micro they can really start to shine which is why at the GSL code S levels these terrans adjusted fairly quickly and are startign to make zerg (and protoss) look silly, once more, with their unit control while macroing never ending streams of terran units. But once you come down (even lower code A) you start to see zerg really tear through terran.

also if you look at OSL qualifiers, 2 terrans advanced out of 12, and only because they avoided zergs. so this can be seen as statistical variance, mmm. these things happen every now and then.
