When: Wednesday, Jul 25 11:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) (we will also rebroadcast repeatedly afterwards!)
Format
This double-elimination tournament features 24 teams from around the world and is an All-Kill team format. This match is being played for Losers Round 6. The first team to defeat everyone on the opposing team's roster (5 wins, or a best of 9), will move on in the Losers Bracket, while the loser will be eliminated entirely. Keep in mind that this has a $20,000 prize pool, and only six teams will make it to the money!
Team Liquid HayprO Sheth Ret TLO Zenio TaeJa Jinro NonY HerO
Liquid has the talent to take out any Korean team out there. It's going to come down to which TL shows up: the one that beat Prime, Mouz, and all-killed Dignitas without dropping a single map, or the liquid that bowed out quietly after the first round of the GSTL.

It will also depend on which MVP shows up. Team leagues with winners format are very hard to predict because the tip top players all have a chance to all kill.
Without a well prepared snipe, I don't see anybody on MVP taking out Taeja right now. DRG could if he gets lucky, but I think Taeja is favoured in the head to head against anyone on MVP right now. With a bit of strategy, MVP can take this. If not, Liquid have a good shot.
Taeja loses and Liquid sends out Ret, looks like he fights valiantly (27 minute game o.O) but doesn't make it. Then Zenio comes out and gets kind of roflstomped somehow (eight minutes 27 seconds what the hell is that!?). Hero then loses another 45 minute PvP... then TLO all-kills and begins what is known as the "Era of TLOwnage" wherin he demolishes all who stand before him in every tournament, eventually TL.net and reddit band together and sign a petition to get TLO a seed into the WCS world championships. Blizzard relents and TLO gets the seed and goes on to become the first WCS world champion.

Reminds me of the movie Sin City kinda. That pedophile only kills them when they start to scream. Either we're early... Or far too late... Lol jk. Na I'm gonna take Zephyrs post as an omen that they do well here

Yeah, that is strange, but I wouldn't come to that conclusion. I feel like they've been advertising/hyping this match outside of Twitter. Also, in the past, the person running Liquid's Twitter account doesn't actually know the result.

If this was any other team, if Taeja beat Sniper, then MVP would be in some serious shit. However, Taeja probably needs to get 4 kills to be safe (or all-kill), because of Liquid's lack of depth unfortunately :\
SHIT.........dammit he started it off so well..... one second not watching your army BAM. I honestly hate that more than anything in this game so I can feel for him having experienced that.......too many times lol. Painful way to lose, but Liquid still in the lead!
I really hate how fragile SC2 can get with those types of engagements. In a single second you pretty much know who's going to win unless it's by some sort of miracle that there's a comeback.

Between every offline and online tournament he has played in for the last three weeks he has had like...three bad games? Two?
Honestly, at some point you are going to have a blunder again, just happened to be vs Sniper. Personally I think that means Liquid goes from having a real shot to being real underdogs, but oh well.
Don't think outcries of 'wtf Taeja' is really warranted here; he has been so solid for so long, he is allowed to have an off game.
On July 26 2012 08:51 Dzerzhinsky wrote: When was the last time Liquid played Jinro in a team league?
Like never. But no seriously the last time was in the GSTL. Liquid only had the minimum amount of players to partcipate in the GSTL, so everyone that was in Korea had to play. I almost feel like he has disappeared though tbh :/ He doesn't stream anymore even.
Well, that was annoying. I think Zenio could have started spine crawlers faster or engaged in his main and maybe give up his expansion. There was no way he could win that fight in that position...
Oh gosh. Taeja and Zenio already out. MVP has already tied up the series. HerO is the last hope, but even though I love him to death I just can't see him doing three wins in a row.
This is way closer than I thought, I had hope for Liquid but I thought Taeja would have to put in more work than the two kills he got. And they still have Hero.

It sounds pretty realistic if they can take out Keen before fielding Hero somehow. Still do not really think it will happen, but that win over Sniper was super important.

Ret vs Zenio seems rather unlikely, it was versus Sniper, sniper did 10 pool + drones pulled. Ret 15 pool 15 hatch. but scouted the attack very early with his overlord, then canceled hatch build 2 spines and had more than enough drones and zerglings.

10 pool drone pull vs 15 pool 15 hatch from Ret. Ret scouts it with overlord, builds two spines and holds it easily.

Heh, Ret vs. Zenio would have been weird. Sniper went for the same-ish build as he went against Zenio but Ret went 15 pool 15 hatch. Sniper pulled a bunch of drones with the attack and Ret scouted it so he cancelled the hatch and built two spine crawlers in his main.

Damnit it happened again lol! I never expect anything to actually happen in the first ten minutes of a Starcraft game nowadays (and I'm playing Mass Effect 3)... what happened in Keen vs Ret? I don't even know who won edit: well everyone's saying strange early gg from ret
I don't understand that at all. Ret could have killed the marines at the ramp, Keen had no SCVs left at his nat, and Ret had more lings coming to force a lift on the CC. It would have been a slightly awkward game state but Ret almost certainly had the advantage. Totally bizarre game.

He had enough lings to kill those marines on the highground and he had 16 more lings on the way which wouldve at least forced a lift off of the natural CC and he couldve droned behind that and had a good chance. WHY DID HE LEAVE THE DAM GAME.
i feel like this team battle has been an illustration of how cheese is getting easier and easier to defend. ret blocked the 10 pool sunken rush with 2 quick sunkens of his own and keen's bunker placement stopped the roach ling all in.
Not sure about choosing Hero now. I would have used TLO as a Terran sniper first and if he would face DRG afterwards he still could all-in. Heros PvT looked shaky vs MMA.

Ah.... Thanks Shellshock! Sounds like an odd decision versus Keen to just leave....I'd have to see the position to make a better judge of it. He probably had a minimal drone count.

24 drones vs 3 command centres. SCVs died in the natural, but there were a lot in the main.
If he had droned behind it he would be okay, but he was rallying lings, and he left them outside keen's base instead of constantly reinforcing the fight. Those were the lings he brought in at the end after the roaches died.
You can say that he should have played it out anyway, but you can't say that he was ahead.

He didnt gg, it seemed like a dc to me. He hardly controlled his roaches during the game so that could implicate lag, they were playing on korea server.

Ret was ahead in food (and probably workers), but he could not be aggressive anymore, and keen had his third cc almost up and was getting banshees out.

I guess DOA and Kevin are seeing the length of the replay, thus they know that the game ends early ... kinda why they weren't that surprised.
Wondering about Ret , though. If he was still in the Netherlands and the games were played on the Korean server, I guess he'd rather try an all-in than lose due to latency issues later on ? Still wondering about the early leave ?_? (or perhaps he just got d/c and the replay does not show this ?)
Hero unexpectedtly BM'ing in that way (2 Manner nexi ? o.0) might be a sign of some sort of disagreements between the teams / playing schedule, too.
Anyways, just speculating, hopefully the guys in Blue take it home again to crown a pretty strong season.

Liquid wins and they make top 4, which allows them to send a player to IPL 5 (probably Hero since Taeja already qualified).
On a more objective note, this series fucking sucked. The games were actually really poor and anti climatic, well taeja had a decent game against vampire and sniper but the rest was urgh.
He won MLG last month and got round of 4 in GSL. How is this a slump?
sure those are quite the achievements, BUT he got raped by MC, after that failed in GSTL and now this. Some ppl could call this a slump or just a 5 games losing streak.
Ppl call it a slump just because of the fact he was the greatest fav for the gsl champ title. Used as an ace player in gstl and lost used as ace player in Ipl lost again. It is quite the burden he had to carry on. Sadly he didn´t fullfill the expectation of the mass that is why ppl call him in a slump.
Dunno if this is true or just as I said "only" a five games loosing streak. (unluckily 5 important games).

I just find it amusing that people would say someone who just recently made the Ro4 of a GSL and won the last MLG "in a slump". You want to see a slump, look at Idra or Jinro.

This speculation on whether or not we win based on tweeting is really annoying. I guarantee you there is nothing there to be found, ever. Tree-hugger our news writer has the specific task to hype up matches for certain leagues (IPLTAC3 clearly being one of them) with a newsthread on www.teamliquidpro.com and a thread on reddit. This will always happen regardless of our result. You can look back for like the past 20 or whatever team matches we have played (long period) and they will all have been hyped up win or lose.
As for the twitter that is typically done by someone who has not seen our matches. The majority of the time you see our twitter being active during such a match it is simply because someone available to do that job happened to be watching. Since he has no idea on whether we win or lose it is meaningless to speculate what the result will be based on twitter activity.
I take a lot of pride in doing things the right way and I will never tell a guy not to promote a match because we lost. If promotion is lacking it is for other reasons. If this lines up with a loss, so be it, but that is just going to be random chance.

HerO is a possible candidate. TaeJa and HayprO already qualified. These things aren't simple though it depends on a lot and we will have to see about it when it comes closer. Among others, besides skill, dates and other tournaments are a major influence for these sorts of decisions.

Ret and HerO were in the States for NASL when this was played. Ret's first match was on the NA server and his second on KR. HerO's first was on NA and his second was on KR as well (the win over DRG). IPL switches servers for the cross region matches so that everything is as fair as can be.
Grats on the win TL! DRG seems he isn't the unbeatable final boss in team leagues atm, your boys are kickin so much ass hope to see them rep it at GSTL soon
Awesome result for Liquid! The best part of it is, none of the games were surprise wins or wins against weak players. TL just properly outplayed MvP. Awesome!
yeah liquid!! That was great. Time to get through either prime (again) or startale and go get revenge on SlayerS!! <3 <3
Only thing I don't get is why they continue to send out Zenio at ZvZ. He just doesn't ever seem strong in that match up. Maybe his practice games are better and he's just suffering from tournament nerves or not being in the right mindset? either way, congrats, beat last seasons record, now go for the win in San Francisco!!!

Zenio was one of the best ZvZers in Korea in 2011. But now it seems like he's in a huge slump in all 3 match up, even his ZvZ has turned mediocre. Wish he would start playing well again soon
I am so happy that liquid won this. While any finals live would be sick. I think for the community it would be huge if it was IM vs Liquid. Korean vs Foreigner match ups always draw the most viewers. I also I feel like what liquid is doing is proving that a foreign teams can compete. I hope Prime beats startale because I think liquid can beat Prime easier than startale. And i think ret can beat MKP lol
