Why you should watch WCS China:
WCS China is taking place in Shanghai this weekend http://www.twitch.tv/wcschina , and will be casted by myself and the lovely Rob Simpson. Not many people are talking about this tournament, but they should be. Here’s why:
For those of you just joining the eSports world during SC2, let me say a few things about China’s standing in previous RTS games.
WarCraft 3 is so big in China, that Grubby needs a group of body guards around him at big events. I’ve seen it. Why is it so big over there? Well, because they kick ass at it. Sky was one of the early WCG winners, and it just took off from there. It can probably be argued that China is the strongest country in the world at WarCraft 3, and at minimum, second to Korea.
By the end of StarCraft 1, China was again arguably the 2nd best country in the world at the game, after Korea. They had many legendary players, such as F91, Super, Pj, and others, who were able to fight at times against the very top Koreans. In fact, Pj was the only non Korean who could go head to head with even the very best Korean players in StarCraft 1. The very best. He could beat them.
China has pro houses. China has eSports on TV. China has commercials and advertisements with progamers in them. The Chinese players have unbelievable work ethic. And most if not all practice on the Korean server. We just never hear about them. Here’s an outline of some of the players left in the tournament:
LoveCD: This is legendary WC3 player Sky’s younger brother. He’s shown great results so far in SC2.
Loner: Early on, Loner was the top Chinese player in SC2. He was picked up early on by top teams due to his very aggressive and insightful play. He got 2nd place to Genius at the first Blizzcon SC2 tournament.
ToodMing: He was one of the top players from China in SC1. He qualified for WCG back then.
F91: A dastardly Zerg in SC1, he went undefeated in TeamLiquid’s Liquibition show match series in dazzling fashion, with 5 straight wins. He took out the very best that the foreigners could offer.
XiGua: He got 2nd place in the very under watched WCG Grand Finals last year, losing in close games to MVP during his period of domination. He knocked out many good players.
Infi: A complete WC3 legend, taking down a WCG gold medal.
There’s more too. I wish I had time to do these players justice, but I guess I’ll just have to do my best while commentating them this weekend. I strongly suggest that everyone gives this tournament a try. We have a huge region of top end players who deserve our attention, and I’m certain will give us some amazing games.

I’m not sure exactly what time the stream starts. About to get on a plane to Shanghai, will start casting as soon as I get there.

Artosis makes a persuasive argument.
Artosis is great at persuasion and hype Hope people do watch this, for Artosis at the minimum.
OP: a decent idea for promotion is to put that Artosis is casting this in the thread title.
Artosis got a lot prettier. ^^
Artosis needs to hurry!
They should've given him a personal helicopter.....
Hope Artosis will bring some bandwidth with him.
lol this stream lags hard

Very cool production, but with only Rob Simpson and that chineese girl with the broken english I don't know. Where's Artosis?
Wonderful production, thanks for the broadcast!
Mass Thors?
Isn't that completely immobile?
Very strange play styles from both of theese guys, mass thor and mass ultra without much support. Pretty strange to not see any runby's or drops when they've split the map like this too.
Every Terran I swear is going the way of MKP and going for that Bio-Mech build on EV.
Adun's mercy, those poor Banelings...
Is that Infinity Seven's Manager? or am I tripping?
How much are tickets to the live event?
Infi's terran play is so awesome.
Is 'offline' for real, or is that just an incorrect way of saying an in-person event like mlg... lol

think you're tripping, doesn't look like her

Holy check this production is awesome! Holy check that's quite a lot of people!
Also, I've never understood the obsession with the word "love" on chinese nicknames XD, is there something behind that?

this is the most awkward shit ever

Only 1500 viewers? Is there a Chinese stream that has more?

There are two Chinese streams, this one I would imagine will go up a lot once Artosis is there.

This terran tutorial man is 100x as manly as the protoss one.

what is going on right now? I want to see some games!
yeah.... Really just wana watch some games before bed. This seems to be a really long intermission...
I haven't seen this single player preview of HotS before - pretty cool.
I swear I just saw the name "Den" under Artosis.

Artosis comes to save the day!

Artosis is finally here :D
sigh.. please just show us some games!

nice baiting by the probes

Artosis is sex on mic. gogo 3 commentators is a little too much thought.

stream lagging alot for anyone else?

On July 13 2012 13:02 Fu[G]u wrote: stream lagging alot for anyone else?
perfect for me!
just kidding its barely watchable...
The stream quality is terrible. So laggy.
Stream is absolute crap atm. Glitchy, pausing/lagging every 2-10 seconds. Audio sometimes lags off from video. xD
Edit: Although as I type that it seemed to get better. Wait nope, lagging again lulz.
Typical chinese stream: lags a lot
Very nice game by LoveTT, I wish I could see this guy more.
is that the lovett that beat nony in WCG 2008?

Yeah. He also took a game off Stork.

Is this stream lagging ridiculously bad for anyone else? I'm literally gettting audio/video cut outs every 5-7 seconds. For some reason I always have issues with Twitch.tv. Everything else works fine, just never twitch.tv.

I was having this same issue with the recent IPL show match @ Hot Import Nights. It was unwatchable just as this is.

Very interesting build by lengMo, unfortunate that the casters don't have their own screens to see it.
10 Supply Depot 13 Engineering Bay Block 15 Barracks (Ebay Cancel) 16 CC
Transitions by adding 1 rax, and then ninja 3rd o.O
i'd love for this to be a smooth stream T_T;; i feel like i'm missing bits and pieces of the game hopefully things align and it'll work out soon!
Having some serious video/audio stutter and getting worse. Subscriber mode only in chat and haven't noticed anyone say anything, going to stop watching. Games actually were kind of interesting, Artosis certainly was a great choice. GL to WCS China.
720p+ is the best one for me. best, but not good.
I don't think Artosis mentioned the stream quality as one of the reasons to watch WCS China.
Can anyone find the Chinese stream to see if that one doesn't lag?
holy fuck that noise just now....
thegunrun: after this match, the stream will reset
» it'll have a better connection to twitch and should fix up the lag issues
guess who comes to the rescue lol

Is it just me or does Artosis seem a bit uncomfortable at that angle. Or it could be the table in front of him. Idk, it just feels odd with the set up being the way it is. Definitely cool that they are changing it up a bit. The room looks super cool

the level in eu and korea is way over this tbh :D but still fun to watch, maybe the chinese will have a chance against us players
On July 13 2012 14:44 zuperketla wrote:the level in eu and korea is way over this tbh :D but still fun to watch, maybe the chinese will have a chance against us players
Nah. This is LB Round 3 -> these are two of the worst players in the tournament. There are EU pros - ie Stephano, SaSe, Naniwa - way above this, but the average decent EU pro plays around the same level as MacSed.
I want to see how the best players in this tournament play. Those newer Chinese players up there in the WB, that's who I want to watch.
Wasn't MacSed the guy who almost got past the first round of Code A and then almost got back in?
well...the third chinese lady caster is definitely not getting any attention at all lol. or whats her job exactly, it doesnt say in the OP :O
Such an amazing tournament to be honest.. Aside from it being in China and therefore the stream being of the worst quality possible, and the downtime being extremely long... and lol, Snowkiss is using a Dell Inspirion laptop XDDDD
But yeah, still an awesome tournament.
is there some kind of bracket, who is in for the global finals or such, that is easy to read and understand?
On July 13 2012 14:49 Packawana wrote: Wasn't MacSed the guy who almost got past the first round of Code A and then almost got back in?
Yes, and Lovecd took out a couple of decent Koreans in one of the TSL 4 KR qualifiers. But now he's out in the Ro3 LB. I'm wondering who the best players in this batch are going to be, and what level of play they're going to show. Won't know that until the later stages though.

ahhh ok so she is the 3rd caster. i do kinda feel they are neglecting her sorta :S she gets cut off like no other by the other two and hasnt gotten that much of a chance to talk lol

Love how the stream crashes flash, over and over. Magical chinese twitch client?

only crashed once for me. the downtime is a little too long though for sure

74 drones in 9 minutes, that was fast.
this might turn out to be a pretty sick game
toodming almost looked like a korean gsl player there o.o nice mechanics
No pressure by the toss, zerg made like 2 zerglings and all drones until like 11 minutes. Never gonna win if you let zerg get upto that econ.
Toodming played really well that game. Let's see what he has in store for LoveTT this game.
Interesting. 1 base opening w/o wall-in.
I'm glad to see lots of Chinese fans came out to watch. I hope their SC2 scene gets as big as it is for WC3.
That was pretty cool. I wonder if that can be combined with HTs lategame, FFing in the drones then storming them.

Just surprising since most times a zerg should be dead for droning that fast.
Looks like they are sitting in a spaceship. Are there screens in that desk that they are looking at?
the control from both players was a lot lower than i hoped it would be.
a lot of unecessary forcefields, losing sentries, wasting units T_T.. control of the watchtower. sorry for the rant.
I can't imagine a world where LoveTT's build is good. What is even going on.
Well, congrats to Toodming.

Fun tournament, thanks for the broadcast!
I would've loved to watch the Chinese stream, similar to watching original BW in Korean.
Kudos Blizzard WCS!

Great night of games. Might cancel my trip tomorrow so I can keep watching

XiGua's game on Cloud Kingdom was absolutely disappointing. He had 2 of his mineral patches in the main triple mined while two others single mined. For a zerg, the effect absolutely snowballs, especially when he went for a speed first build.

TW and CN has a lot of sponsors. It's same reason UK has 3 spots and Germany 4 while Ukraine has 2 and Sweden has 3.

i don't, i think china top4 is about as good as korea top 23. taking a look at TLPD (i know, not the best measure by any means, but roughly decent) there are names like losira, thestc, oz, bomber, gumiho and maru outside the top 23 and i'd favour most of them against chinese players most days (or at least what i've seen of their play)

WCS was never supposed to be about pure skill - you can watch almost any other tournament to see that setup. Apparently, WCS seeds are determined based proportional to the active player base in each country. This is a great setup for growing the scene outside of areas where professional SC2 is already well-established (such as in Korea) - eventually this will mean more, better trained, foreign players, and a bigger professional scene.
In the end that's good for SC2 in general. And hey, I'm sure a Korean will win this WCS in the end anyway.
