Mech -> Airmech is not an easy transition to just suddenly make. You have to invest a lot of resources into the switch, and air has no upgrades. While the switch is going on zerg can take bases and drones unrestricted. Alternatively they can overrun you with roaches (+ drop ideally). You have to expect a spire -> greater spire transition from the zerg, so the zerg will be able to make 25 corruptors with their great income once your airmech is revealed, and transform some to broodlord to deal with your mech. Airmech would be good if the switch was instantanous and they used vechicle upgrades, but that is not the case.
